  • phgruver: @vitoB $ARLP $UNG At the same time, $BTU is being hammered down to the 50dma. That's a 5.82% decline from the open. It's still in trend, though. Something to watch....

  • vitoB: @wineinquirer $CEIX $BTU im thinkin this would have to be related with the russia energy/price cap situation
  • scottrades: @vitoB $CEIX $BTU I think you're correct on that from what I've read today.

  • phgruver: @wineinquirer $CEIX $BTU TD Ameritrade, via Bezinga, is blaming it on an uptick in COVID cases in China. I guess there's concern that China will go back into lockdown mode.

The metals closed above the 50 day EMA yesterday after testing monthly support so there is some potential here as well. I am watching $FCX here as it is forming a high base. The $XLB closed above the 50 day EMA and I am watching $FCX, $DOW and $NU ...
  • traderbren: $BTU - looking constructive as it works to reclaim the 20d.
  • bla00109: $UNG I'm using this instead of Rocky's $BTU for wheel trades. This is volatile but the options are more liquid with narrower spreads. Own 500 shares @ 19.8. Rolled my 16Dec $23 calls to 23Dec, same strike @ net $0.22 (57% annualized return on this weekly premium). I'll recheck this Mon and Tue to see if I should have delayed the sales of these short calls like Rocky advocates.
  • bigbartabs: @bla00109 $UNG $BTU ... I use $UNG to trigger buys of $BOIL. A buckin' bronco... but if you can keep up with your alerts, and not let it get away from you... it works. All the best...
  • scottrades: My notes: $SPY Watch the 50 Day $QQQ Breakdown from the wedge $UUP Watch the 200 Day $XLE Holding the 100 EMA $OIH At the 50 Day $XBI Tight along the MAs $TLT Stopping near the 200 Day $AAPL Breakdown $TSLA Lower Highs $FSLR Above the MAs $ENPH Around the 21 EMA $ARRY Sold this today $TNK Above the 50 Day $NOG At the 100 EMA $MODN New Weekly high $CEIX Flag $BTU Needs to tighten up
  • phgruver: Looking back, over my shoulder, as it were, I noticed that $BTU has pulled back from a high of $32.89, on 11/30, to a low of $27.09 on 12/12, a 17.6% decline. It is now seeming to find support at the 50dma, trading for the 3rd day in close proximity. Interestingly, though, the 50dma hasn't been relevant for the past 6 months, however, the lower Bollinger Band has provided support the 4 previous times that it was touched. Not something to take action on, but something to watch.... Coal is still the most hated energy source in the world, and the enemies of coal are implacable!
  • vitoB: @phgruver $BTU ive been building a position in $ARLP on red days for the past month. overall position is negative but div should be coming up soon. have to be realistic on coals. $10 bill in green energy has takenn coal from 82% to 80% , might be fuzzy but something like this.. when you realize that if they spend 50bil more it might get to 50-60% maybe...think about that ...
  • natural: @phgruver $BTU FYI from IBD yesterday: "BTU shares have formed a handle with a 32.99 buy point.. stock is rebounding from its 50-day moving average. If shares retake Tuesday's high of 29.08 that would offer aggressive investors an early entry, with the stock breaking the handle downtrend and getting above its 21-day exponential moving average."

  • DAN: Stocks For This Morning Good morning. I will be on IBDLive this morning. Four stocks that are quite interesting to me are $MUSA $HRMY $ENPH and $BTU. These stock all have very solid growth fundamentals and are in good patterns that typically lead to higher prices. Just wanted to let you know. --Dan
  • wineinquirer: @DAN $MUSA $HRMY $ENPH $BTU ?What time Dan?
  • scottrades: @wineinquirer $MUSA $HRMY $ENPH $BTU Starts in a few minutes. https://research.investors.com/ibdlive/

  • scottrades: @Docoof $MUSA $HRMY $ENPH $BTU Great! The IBD Team is solid.
  • mharps: @swingbound $BTU look at that ix1050
  • swingbound: @mharps $BTU I think I see it ... it looks like the break , thanks .
  • swingbound: $BTU This broke and has been rejected at the 20SMAD and now the same has occurred with the Retracement support level ~ 28.77 . As a result we have much better than 50 - 50 probability that this will at minimum test the 50SMAD almost 5% lower from here . ( ~ 4% is more accurate RHRN to the 50 but it has lifting to do to regain any of these support areas today )
  • DAN: ...
$BTU -- Still needs more time.

  • swingbound: $AMR is at the 50SMAD in - test .... this is one of many recent tests . Its a short tight wedge here with the 20SMAD as R1 overhead . $BTU has cracked below the 20SMAD and is testing the 61.8 % for support RHRN . A failure lands it ~ 27.13 . These are under some recent pressure . For me this is approaching at least a partial stop level short term so today's close is important .
  • MongosPawn: @swingbound $AMR $BTU Looks like AMR has a $5 dividend on 12/14. You'd think that there'd be buyers at this point. Or maybe I'm missing something.
  • swingbound: @MongosPawn $AMR $BTU My thought was coal my follow oil but I'll defer to others on those points . Leaving a position or full position on at base support can ruin a person's morning , that much I know from experience . best , Will
  • phgruver: @Niche $AMR Coal is really tough, right here. The chart for $BTU and $CEIX look very similar. At least $CEIX pays a 5.84% dividend.
  • swingbound: @phgruver $AMR $BTU $CEIX The one big difference I see is $CEIX is working on another Monthly breakout , having its Monthly broken out previously this March . Whereas $BTU is much lower in its pattern and still in its Monthly Cup , its working on a Weekly breakout . Presumably the Monthly might be a more powerful pivot to overcome and with more juice than the Weekly .
  • Gpinewild: @maracom $BTU Thanks for the explanation. So this is a calculation for each week.
  • kycol: @Gpinewild open the option chart , say for $BTU; pick 1st Friday Weekly & select it; look in the upper right corner of the Option page; you should see something like 75.09%(+/-1.283); ignore the percent, the implied move is /-1.283. That is good from when you look at it during trading hours until options are closed on Friday. Works in all the other option periods too. It changes as traders trade options during the day. And, there is a big time decay near the end of the week in weekly options & that’s what we hope to sell. PS: in a normal trending market, you can sell going into a 3-day weekend for next week & gain 3 extra days of time decay — I don’t do this in this volatile market RHRN.

  • maracom: @phgruver $BTU I've come to hate buying pullbacks to the 8 EMA. It's such weak support and breaks so often. I'll often buy tests of the 20/50/200SMAs but on the 8 I'll just wait for phase 3 to recapture the previous high
  • phgruver: @maracom $BTU I agree, but I'm looking at $30 as a major support level. If I'm wrong, I'll ditch it too. :-)

  • maracom: @swingbound $VLO $MTDR $DVN $XLE very reasonable short term analysis. My time horizon for $DVN is off the weekly, so my stop is below the 50 week SMA. • indigo1948: @scottrades - good morning Scott. It is getting hard to hold $BTU with the large profit I have - thinking of moving my stop on half of my position to the 8 DMA. Your thoughts? Have a great day and thank you for your market commentary.
  • scottrades: @indigo1948 $BTU First off, congrats! That's a good problem to have. I would consider selling 1/4 of your holdings into strength. Take some of the pressure off. It's good to let some air out of the balloon and pay yourself for your good work. Then stagger up 3 stops on the rest to levels that you're comfortable with and let it work. GREAT JOB!!
