- RD: $PPL Worth watching. Activist investor reportedly building a stake.
- Shopaholic526: $PPL Any thoughts on why some utilities are breaking out?
- 1winkie: $PPL: Wolfe Research upgraded the shares to Outperform from Peer Perform and bumped the price target to $30 from $28. Over 6% dividend as well - Long
- mharps: $PPL took a bit fo long term account. Electric utility pays about 6%
- lostsheep: $PPL utilities working divs
- lostsheep: $PPL boring utility now above the 50 and working since the 25 test plus the div
- lostsheep: $PPL boring utility putting in a floor at 25. 6% + Div plus some capital appreciation would be nice. I pay them monthly it would be nice to get some back
- lostsheep: $LYB good opportunity this morning at 67 with a 6+ div a little industrial value as some tech looks fully valued Earnings 7/31 $PPL Utility 6 div maybe some migrants from $FE earnings 8/4
- jonwest88: @lostsheep $LYB $PPL $FE ?? $T > 6 % yield and similar 1 month and 6 month meandering chart patterns. AT&T Q2 free cash flow $7.6 bln; FactSet consensus $5.35 bln
- lostsheep: $PPL $FE other than a utility that is involved in money laundering would anyone park a little money in a utility with a 6.5 % div or is that just uncreative and foolish in this bullish environment.
- MtChet: $PPL - One of my dividend stocks just broke above resistance. 6.5% yield.
- lostsheep: @MtChet $PPL pay them every month. Glad to see its going somewhere worthwhile
- MtChet: @lostsheep $PPL - Quarterly
- lostsheep: @MtChet $PPL you get paid quarterly but they bill me monthly to keep the lights on.
- Bridget: $PPL trying to break out today
- Bridget: $PPL is moving higher after a pulback to the 21dMA
- woodman: @bRobert $SPY $MKC $CLX $ED $JNJ - And $PG. Or $PPL zzzzzzzz.
- bRobert: @woodman $SPY $MKC $CLX $ED $JNJ $PG $PPL zzzzzz translates into sleeping well at night.
- spmeyers: @woodman the staples stocks I really like (e.g., $MKC) are too extended, so I'm waiting for a pullback there; there are a few high-yielding utilities that look good -- $PPL
- JJT1: $PCG $PPL $SSP $NYT So Market edge has 2 out of 91 industries as Strong and they are Utilities which $PCG and $PPL seem to be starting uptrend from bottom with 50 above 100 above 200 and now all are heading up, and Media with $SSP and $NYT in upper right hand corner of a daily chart...well, may have to look at weekly for $NYT to be there.
- 1winkie: $AEP, $PPL, $D, $SO - Utilities electric - good dividends - all still doing well
- michaelH: @1winkie $AEP $PPL $D $SO Many look like they are ready to break out
- Trixie: @1winkie $AEP $PPL $D $SO Some of the #food or #StapleStocks are also doing quite well. $HRL, $MKC, $LW .Often goes with the scary market.
- janner0814: In a few months, SEVERAL (if not many) of these stocks have a high probability to make consistent, #COMPELLING moves. #STEALTH $PNC $WFC $CSC $XLNX $FITB $STI $CHKP $ETP $SO $DPS $XEL $WEC $ED $AEE $CMS $SRE $PPL $NI $GXP $DUK $ES $SJM @janner0814
- lostsheep: @Bridget $FE - utilities. Big winners. Input costs of generating power way down, yearly rate increases, no concession to the consumer = big profits. $PPL - another winner
- Bridget: $PPL breaking through prior resistance, currently at $34.14, ATH is at $35.39. Would not buy it here, 8MA is currently support on the daily. This has had a huge run since 9/11, will likely need to take a breather here before moving higher.
- bwcarnation1: $XLU $SO $PPL doing well today. If rates going up as Yellen indicated why are utilites rising?
- bigbartabs: @bwcarnation1 $XLU $SO $PPL Utilities rising? I'm guessing that the market doesn't believe Yellen's claim that rates are going up.
- Bridget: $PPL and $SO both at the high of the day.
- bwcarnation1: @Bridget $PPL $SO $GIS funny you mention these 3 bought them all this a.m. hope they continue up
- VectorGamer: $tln here's a crap stock I got as a spinoff of $PPL. lost $4 a share since I got it. No sense in me selling it though.
- dunsek: $PPL $OI #PickYourBottom both flirting with the 'now I'm interested' line and I just started a position in $OI Don't think you need to be in a rush to buy either, though $OI looks low risk rhrn with a stop just below the 50 day. $PPL I'm still looking for a close over 34.65 rather than just a touch of it. Both of these were on the 7% or less from the 52 week low and crossing the 8ema scan the other day.
- dunsek: #PickYourBottom scan @LTCSteve After reviewing last night, I think that $OI and $PPL are actually my favorites out of the 'within 7% of the 52 week low and crossing the 8ema ' scan. $OI has a triple bottom around 23, and would need to break out over both the 50 day and the recent highs (24.50ish) for me. It's got higher lows and a V bottom in early March. $JOY over 41 I quite like too. $PRU I think I'd stay away from for the time being. $KSU is interesting too because of the confirmatin in the transports @DAN has been pointing to. Needs a close over 108 maybe?
- dunsek: $PPL very close to the break out level edit- brain spasm- I meant $PPL, not $OI
- dunsek: #PickYourBottom #Scan trying a new scan today which returns those stocks which are within 7% of their 52 week low and which are crossing up through the 8ema. Why 7%? Because trial and error. It wasn't coming back with any if I went less than 7% away from 52 week low. Results at the moment are: $PRU $KSU $PPL $JOY $SNI $OI Will monitor and see how it goes.
- lostsheep: @dunsek - $PPL- not an investment call, but based on the fact that they raise my rates every 6 months it may be worth looking into. hoping all is well! $RAD- off uptrending support line
- LTCSteve: @dunsek $PRU $KSU $PPL Your SW sounds interesting. R U strictly in the evaluation phase or will take a position in one or more stocks before day's end? Thanks
- dunsek: @LTCSteve #PickYourBottom good question. $PRU actaully is really interesting me RHRN ; $JOY popped up on the screen too, and it's interesting but I think it needs to show some breaking out; $SNI came up, but looks like it wants to go sideways still; $OI looks like it won't hold the 8, $PPL is interesting but looks like it might have trouble going through 34.50, $MSI came up but it's a fugly chart and $KSU came up and I like that it's flashing an inside day at the moment, but looks premature. So gun to my head, $PRU, but I may just watch for the day

For those of you who like yields, the stocks listed at the start of this post are all in nice patterns and yield over 4%. They're not giant yielders, but a few of them are coming out of nice tight squeezes and have the potential to add some nice capital appreciation to the yields. I took a position in $ED this morning. $NEE is my other favorite and $SO would be next. $PCG has already made its move so I wouldn't buy it here.
