  • bill52: @scottrades @DAN I own a position in $MX which is looking to gap open up 11% pre-market. To lock in some profit in case this move fails, I was thinking to sell half at the open and let the rest ride to see what shakes out. The move is being driven by a company press release last night upping their revenue and profit guidance. Definitely positive news but I guess you never know for certain what the other traders will do. Thoughts?
  • scottrades: @bill52 $MX Watch to see how it trades. I don't think I would sell it all, but you can take this as an opportunity to take some profit. There's still time between now and earnings, so if it holds it could run a bit leading up to earnings.
  • bill52: @scottrades $MX Thanks. Good point on possible additional run-up to earnings.
  • Henry: @bill52 $MX Semidconductors and OLED, TOS says it is headquartered in Luxembourg but their factory is in Korea. They have traded 1115 shares this am, but more last night in ah. If it moves down for the 1st 15 minutes, I'd sell it all. Selling half at the open is a good idea, the spread in premarket was $1 when I started typing, now 50 cents.
  • bill52: @Henry $MX thanks Henry. Appreciate the additional analysis/insight.
  • DAN: @bill52 $MX As a very "general" rule, if a stock gaps up 10%, I think it's prudent to be selling some. Maybe all of it (though definitely not always the case), but usually 1/2. If you're selling half up 10%, the stock can completely reverse and you're still up nicely on the remaining half because of your reduced cost basis. Hope this makes sense. Great job, bill.
  • scottrades: @bill52 $MX Looks like quite the ride today. Consider a stop at LOD. No telling what direction this is going just yet, but it's good to see it didn't sell off completely.
  • bill52: @scottrades $MX thanks Scott for the follow-up. Yes, its forming one giant spinning top. Major indecision based on the candlesticks. I did sell off half my position earlier today and agree with your thought to use today's low as a stop. Can only hope it goes higher but never know.

  • SierraJW: @tjv821 I just looked at the 1 min charts for $MU, $BRCM, and $SNDK - They seem to have found support today, and are rising. Depends on your time frame for $MX. Look at different time frames, 5 min, 30 min, daily and weekly - if the trend is positive for $MX, it should recover, longer term. Also look at @Dan's advice today, very relevant, IMO. John Templeton's rule - the time to sell a stock is when you have a better one to replace it (long term success focus, of course). Good Luck, Jim

  • DAN: A couple of recent stocks that I have covered (though not often...which is why I'm mentioning them now) are $MX and CECO. $MX is at the top of a new trading range, having bounced off the 50-day moving average. I'd have a hard time buying it now...but I'd pull the trigger if it falls to $18. $CECO is popping out of a volatility #squeeze. It's currently "overbought"...but with the stock now above the 200-day moving average, being overbought is not a bad thing. @Dan
  • jrsmidt1: I am a first time poster to the forum so hope this properly for me. Back In March @Dan posted a "free video for non members" along with his chart of the day. Two of the stocks @Dan covered that he called "buy and hold-dont trade" type stocks were $MX and SWI. $MX seems to be building a long base since then but $SWI has tanked and is just now starting to show a little life again. Does anyone out there follow these or have any input? I bought a little of each and am just holding, but I can find that @Dan has commented on these to any extent since. Thanks-johnboy
  • rj7150: $SWI and $MX @jrsmidt1 - I do not presently hold either of these stocks. If you have held $SWI though the last month and a half, I would certainly continue to hold it. It looks to me like it has found the bottom and will eventually work its way back up imho. Others with better knowledge of the stock may advise other wise.
  • Forexpro: Re: $MX, $SWI, @Jrsmidt1

    Hi, Jrsmidt1,

Welcome, and yes, you posted perfectly. You comment on $MX, that's it's building a base, seems right on the weekly, but on the daily, it's had some movement. It's been struggling to regain altitude since r ...
  • DAN: Hey jrsmidt1 -- nice to see you here. Yep, you posted properly. :-) I don't think I've covered either of them for a while. $SWI looks like it's done going down...but I'm sorry if you've held it on the way down. $MX does indeed look like it's about to complete a good base. Looks constructive to me. Always have a stop on your positions. Unless you are super committed...always know your exit. And when you $ARE super committed, I always think it's prudent to go in small...and then be willing to buy ONCE on a pullback. If the pullback keeps falling...then you are clearly wrong. Even the super committed need to mind their money. Hope that helps. @Dan
  • jrsmdit1: I am a new subscriber as of Friday and still finding my way around the site and forum. Back about six weeks ago @Dan mentioned $SWI as a "buy and hold' type of stock. I havent seen much since and have bought a time or two on the way down and quit buying. the stock is down 25% fron its high and I have all but given up. Can anyone enlighten me on this stock. @Dan, can you comment on it. I also added $MX as a "buy and hold' and its down but seems to be recovering. I would also appreciate a comment on this. Johnny
  • Gzoar: $MX - Opening a position here, Looks like its trading at 7x 2013 estimates with 19% projected earnings growth from 2013 to 2014. Now trading above Ipo price from a year ago and its an IBD 50 stock. @Dan mentioned it briefly a week or so ago.
  • C.K.: $MX - down probly on a VP selling 7K shares. I'll let it settle down. I had sold last Friday as it was not vg strong. Will wait.

  • Eptake5: $MX semi doing very well. Posted more info on it last thurs. #Cramer baby!
  • Eptake5: $MX This is a Hong Kong semi manufacturer that #Cramer was really pounding the table a month or so ago with one restriction. He requested do not buy this stock until it is above the $8.50 mark. At the time it was trading between $7-8. Well it had good earnings on Wednesday and received an upgrade from UBS. It closed at $10.60 after dropping .22 in the afterhours on Thursday. Magnachip is worth a look! Good luck all.
  • Eptake5: $MX anyone following this stock that #Cramer said would be "a stock you wanna own" It makes chips for cell phones, mostly Androids as I recall.
  • bxshin: $MX @ Eptake5 - It's difficult for me to remember #Cramer's picks sometimes because his calls can be spot on and then not so good. #Cramer mentioned $MX as a play for the Samsung Galaxy tablet which he claimed was a good seller. These chips are also found in their smartphones. #Cramer also said this stock was highly speculative. Frankly, I don't know anybody who is rushing to the store to buy a Samsung Galaxy tablet although I don't doubt #Cramer that this is selling well.

  • emac2north: @Golf77 - Comments on $MX ? IPO a month ago and today is breaking out of Upper Bollinger Band emac
  • Eptake5: $MX Wow
  • Golf77: @emac2north $MX Love the chart. tough to read the balance sheet. The company keep using 10 months vs 12 months. However earnings have gone thru the roof. Close to 2.00 in earnings. Most semi's get a 9x - 15x earnings. So I see upside to this one.
  • rdxshooter: $MX Look at the 1 minute chart for this one. The moment this stock was just mentioned on #CNBC look at the spike.
  • Aragorn: $MX - I punched it up as I was listening and cracked up as I saw it move up like that. Ther is no volume on this stock
  • christmashill: $KSU We'll see where it closes, but I've cut my 1/2 position in 1/2. If it can't muster the strength running up to earnings to really tag the 50, then it will be a lower high. Hopefully the forward guidance will offset any revenue hits from the closures in $MX at earnings next week. Unless we come back to the bottom of the channel, or break and hold the 50 before earnings, I'll be waiting to see what happens on the sideline until they report.
  • RFrangie: (MEX) - I now really believe we are heading down hard. In a few days a new law is going to be taking effect. Form now $USD accounts residing in Mexico will not be able to have more than 10K in USD. You will not be able to deposit $USD currency in cash, and if you need $USD in cash you will be only to get 300USD per person up to 1.5k per mo. Government excuse money laundry.... Give me a break ( Back to the past 1982). Lets just wait for the interest rates of 150% that we use to have Going short in a lot of $MX companies and emerging markets for the rest of the year. And a few weeks a go $GS said to go long the $MX Pesos. Seem $GS has been wrong in a lot of calls this year.
