IDan mentioned $WD, a stock with which I wasn't familiar. It looked intriguing, and I'm afraid that while Dan was still speaking I did a quick overview, and ended up taking a starter position at 101.05. I had previously taken a starter position in $NTR, and that is looking like a failure. I sold my shares to someone else, not necessarily at a profit (nor at the day's best level). Here's hoping that your day is going well; all the best!

- Forexpro: Re: $WD Good Afternoon, Friends, This specialist in lending for multi-family housing (i.e., apartment buildings) was mentioned quite favorably in this weekend's edition of Barron's. The CEO - a grandson of one of the co-founders, which gave me pause, but he's been in place for a while and hasn't wrecked the car - has what seems like pretty ambitious growth plans. The continued presence of Fannie and Freddie, which buys most of the loans, would be helpful, and there are a couple of other caveats, but on balance it looks like a pretty good story. It's up roughly 5.5 percent today, and I can't touch it, but I have an alert set at 99.25. Should it retreat at some point on a rough day for the market I'll look to take a starter. - debeers: $WDC-ran up on the misinformation that Toshiba was selling its chip unit to Western Digital. Toshiba sold to Romney's old firm: Bain Capital. Toshiba used Western to extractthe maximum amount of money from Bain. WD's strength was acquiring profitable businesses that had temporary cash crunches. That trade, for now, is over.$WD-comeearningstime WDC will be fine.

T2122 - 4 WK new HI/L ... - snakedriver: raid array @jojo I did try various arrays, but have settled on a $WD 10,000 rpm drive for my boot drive & three 500Gb in the box (with two $USB 1.5 TerraByte as backup, which I keep turned off unless I'm backing something up). I operate under one rule, if a hard drive hasn't failed, it's going to!
- Cmooney: Sizzle, It sure worked on me. I actually have 3 $WD drives for backup. @Chris
- Gabe: You are correct that processors top out at around 3-4GHz, and it has been like that in the past few years. Note that I'm not saying that Intel cannot make the processors smaller. They will probably find a way for 45nm, and maybe even 32nm. Beyond that is still just "hope". Yield will drop, however, and they will face more and more problems. Processors using these deep submicron processes will likely be able to operate on lower power, but they won't have significantly higher frequencies, so in effect they won't be much faster (maybe 5-20%). On the other hand, my $WD Raptor hard drive is a noticeable improvement, so I think the rally in hard drives is justified to some level (until flash cards truly take over, at which point they're SELL SELL SELL).
