  • Mikev200: @Babutters $NKLA I heard it had a Gas engine!...JK JK JK :) Actually the company my son works at ( $TRP) did a recent deal with them. Although $TRP is in nat gas, they are looking to expand into solar. Not sure exactly what the deal was.

Would like to re-enter the stronger ones. They are for the boss's retirement account. My choices are $AM $OKE $TRP $WMB $WPZ. Thinking about $KMI, but not sure they are ready for prime time yet, even with the dividend hikes they've promised. I would appreciate your assessment of the above and any suggestions of others I should consider. I missed the recovery and have been hesitant to re-enter at current levels and uncertainty surrounding the oil/gas markets. Txs in advance for the kindness of your reply.

  • Bridget: @EmilyHummel $TRP yes it is. I would start small today and add tomorrow on a pullback. Stop around $48. But this would be for a longer term hold. This does not move quickly.

Lots of breakouts but many have already run too far too fast. $CTRL $KEM $CALA $EEM - breakout on the weekly, wait for the pullback $Z - pullback to 50dMA, seeing capitulation today $PFPT - nice bounce off the 50dMA $LVS - at the 50dMA $WB - at the 50dMA $GLW - new all time high $BX - breakout $SINA - breakout $CHTR - starting to breakout $SYK - breakout $TRP - breakout on the weekly $TMO - breaking out $TRMB - starting to breakout, at a nice buy point $PYPL and $SQ both moving higher #IPOs AYX - too late now LNGG - new high JAG - nice pullback APPN - almost at a new high
  • Lou: Today is a day to follow Buffet adage, be greedy when others are fearful. To this end I added short puts in $C and $LVS, shares in $TRP and (thanks Bridget) starter in $SFM. If I weren't full, I'd have added $PE $ETE and $ETP. Done for the day - have a great day all.

Does it have to do with levels of exposure to LNG? I do not know where I got the idea that ETE was just a way to own ETP without K-1's. I was wrong again.
  • Hackberry: @mradams0621 $C $LVS $TRP $SFM $PE $ETE $ETP #1099 MLP investing There is an ETF $AMLP of mlp's that I read about that issues a 1099 and not a K-1 form. The fund handles the K-1's and issues you a 1099. That is what I read a while ago when looking for an IRA investment in MLP's without K-1 issues.

  • DAN: @vfr777 $TRP Starting to be bought. Nice breakout today. Volume is a bit light...but there are still 3 and a half hours of trading. I think it's good now. (I forget what I said when you last asked about it). Nice dividend. And we love the transcanada pipeline. Beats transporting oil on a railroad and in trucks.
  • vfr777: @DAN $TRP Thanks. At the time it hadn't broken the 50dma and the 100sma was flat which looks like it still is. Energy was also a concern. I will start with a small position, but I don't know if the stop should be at the 50sma as there is a bit of congestion there. Would you use the 100sma?

  • DAN: @vfr777 $TRP I don't think so, vfr777. First, anything could happen and I can't ever really say exactly where is a stock is going to go. But here's what I think.

    Energy is not really where I want to be now...though it probably will find a bottom s ...

  • issues: $CVI has earnings tomorrow PM. I hold 3/4 position and since FANG took a bounce on earnings I am thinking of holding over earnings. Comments? Someone on this Forum suggested it several weeks ago & I've been holding it. But with a deadline I am considering selling. Also we are holding $WBMD $ANET & $WMB & $TRP with earnings looming tomorrow.

So on this, (we hold both TRP and $ETP) I am thinking I might not hold over earnings. 50:50 chance, a roll of the dice. I am not sure. What are you doing?
  • champ: @bwcarnation1 $ETP $TRP --- I sold it on that move up around the 25th and never bought it back because I'm really holding too many stocks....so I just moved on. I'm sure it would be alright long term. I like $KMI long term and I'm holding a position. I'm only holding positions in $ETP and $ETE at this time.
  • champ: $WPZ @ $41 now --- Moving up on News ...that they received approval for the expansion of the Atlantic Sunrise pipeline....from the (FERC) on Friday in the AH's....they are the major supplier of N-Gas to the East coast....they have had 5 major upgrade ...

  • Lou: @ag1 $TRP - no, all pipeline companies are down. A Democrat resigned prematurely from FERC, leaving the agency with just two members, not enough for a quorum required for any approvals. A bump in the road on the way to expansion of pipeline projects. Now President needs to get nominees in and speedy confirmation by Senate. May be buying opportunity.

  • champ: @Lou $TRP --- Did you see $EEP and what is your take on whats going on...if you have time...the low was $20.54...this could be a strong buy ...I took a position @$21...I can't figure out why the large drop.
  • Lou: @ag1 $TRP - another issue that I did not mention - Canada's Prime Minister has delayed another major pipeline proposal - Energy East. This too bears on the stock price but next PM (perhaps Mr. Wonderful, Kevin O'Leary) will get it on track.

  • BLOR: @Lou $TRP Energy east would have to cross the ST Lawrence to reach the Atlantic coast. A lot of opposition in Quebec.

Also in this group are the following: $LPG (neg earnings and Reduce by AMTD) $NBLX (Low vol & missed badly last earnings (E .43 Actual .10) $PSXP & $VLP both are identical on 10 day charts. Since we already own $VLP we will just add to existing position instead of buying $PSXP. $CNNX (up only 3% in last 10 days. BOUGHT $TRP
  • champ: $IBM @ $178.50 now but I added this morning along with $WDC that I posted about ....but when I'm trading around my core position or chasing ...what ever you want to call it ...I usually put my stop on entry and then move it to trailing....if I catch it right and I did the same with $AMZN this morning because you just never know when they could turn on you....that way you can't really take a loss...and if you do it's very small but on these runners sometime the rewards can be very nice ...like on these 2 that I added on twice yesterday...$TRP and $ETP....just saying how I'm trading these stocks that I believe could move even higher...this system can work on any add on trades but the markets has to be working and when it turns ...I just sell all the adds.

  • champ: @phgruver $TRP #NEWS --- Remember this is not a play off the chart...this is a play on news.. that this sector has been waiting for...for many years ...almost 7 now ..I'm guessing...@LOU's stock is $ETE and $ETP...but the pure play is $TRP...I just added to $ETP. The down side is that the....Oceti Sakowin camp in the Dakota's will be raising hell now...they will be on the war-path.

  • champ: $DJI - $ETP - $TRP @ $48.65 -- They will be at the CIBC Whistler Institutional Investor Conference tomorrow 1/25....this should kick this stock up even higher tomorrow... along with the entire pipelines sector. I believe that they will be extremely positive...on the Keystone XL pipeline and the entire sector....no real doubt about that..but with an update on more positive financial news...and the Houston Shipping Channel.. for exports...is my guess ...I'm thinking that they might.. put out a new presentation tomorrow.... and it's really not too late to take a position or add....to any of the pipeline names ...I just added again to $TRP and $ETP RHRN...it's possible that we might not see these price again for awhile in the short term.....and ..... The $DJI should break thru 20K tomorrow.

  • champ: $TRP around $47 --- Pipeline company....slowly moving - up...Keystone Pipeline, owner....they have had many upgrades in the past....maybe nows the time....they own 41,900 miles of pipelines...N-Gas supplier.... they are also an oil supplier to refiners...another segment of there business consists of investments in over 20 electrical power plants. Spec swing position and I'm holding and waiting for news....might happen but it might not.

  • issues: After doing my DD I have come to the decision to buy $GPRE (Thank you Adam!) and $PBA (Thank you ____) $PBA is in IBD group 3 (most of the stock in this group are rated well.) $PBA has a pe of 16 and div 3.3% with increasing earnings qt over qt this is the one for US!! (Runners up were $LNG (already own some $LNG) $OILT & $TRP. Now that research should be valuable to some one else. Who will it be?

He's banking on a new and revised plan from $TRP (TransCanada Pipeline) to be submitted. I can't believe how naive the republicans are to believe they had him over a barrel when they gave him the power to raise the debt ceiling last fall and they felt good because @barry'd have to nix the pipeline. Watch for the republicans to be on Foxworthy's "Are you dumber than a 5th grader" show.

Kind of like a Griz--they look BIG up close and then you catch their smell (;>) Second--@Bob,I sure could have used your help with the 4 - 5 foot drifts this week. I got hot & muggy just getting to my dental office two blocks away. Third--what does anyone think of $TRP Transcanada Pipeline. Vol #Squeeze & beginning to move up BB? And not up 2 days in a row.
  • stockmentorjeff: $TRP just reported earnings. Did you listen to the Conference Call? If you look back at the chart you will see where the 50 day ema has been resistance in the past but now it looks to me like it is support. I think it has good risk reward right here right now but keep a tight stop... Looks like a winner but needs some research on earnings for me...
  • aptgods: Thankyou, Alex. I resign myself now to trying to answer my own question about disappointing $TRP performance - a strong sector, but about 8% down since I bought. This is one of the strongest gas (pipeline) stocks. Now I think the answer must simply be that the institutions backed out of it. $TRP seems to have everything else going for it. but as I saw yesterday, stocks from the oil and gas xploration and production seem to be doing better than the oil and gas transport industry - would this have anything to do with the fact that the transport index is down??? Dunno. Maybe the answer is simple: I picked an IBD "B" rated stock whereas the gainers this week seem to be "A" or "A-" rated. Comments most welcome.
  • aptgods: @DAN: Would you please take a look at $TRP and confirm my thoughts? It is under consolidation, on a downtrend , building a ?2nd lower base. Past four days it is making lower highs and higher lows to a pennant formation - would you call this a bullish pennant? I bought +8% ago and am eyeing it anxiously most of the time...It is the biggest gas pipeline stock, in a strong sector... but it feels like the trade is wrong.

  • aptgods: @Phil, according to the stockchart interactive performance "perfect" chart, the best 5 of the lot are: RGNC, $TRP, $WMB,BGH,GEL. I compared them 5 at a time and took the best of all. But that is just one measure...does this go along with your take on them? Oh! and take a look at $HP for drilling, if you haven't already. Martha
  • Yachtsman: evan Have you run a similar scan on the pipelines? $TRP has been a great performer and the yields are solid. Long: $TRP
  • evanesce: @Yachtsman, this was easy. I had to drop my volume limit down to 250K/day, because pipelines are not especially active trading vehicles (with a few exceptions). The list, adding $TRP, is $EEP EP $EPD KMP MGG NSH $PAA SE $STR @TPP $TRP WMB My observations: - huge daily volumes in EP EPD $SE STR $WMB, best for estimating rotation - every name, except $SE, either never tagged the 200DMA or has now regained it (!!) - $SE has dropped out from an extended volatility #squeeze so it has a special chart pattern - EP MGG $NSH suffered very little technical damage (TRP $WMB held well too) So: these differ from the refiners and drillers, which I think are momentum names. Pipelines, especially the top performers, might well be hed by steadier hands who take a longer-term view. Certainly the group's rapid recovery from some sharp drops is a positive indicator.
  • Yachtsman: Thanks for the heads-up @Craigy. I'd add ARLP to that list also. I agree. If $FTEK had a yield I'd own it tsize. If you don't own a pipeline, $TRP is my fave. Solid yield too. Long: $TRP
