  • StockSwagger: @scottto_2 $TSLA $gain $loss That was an awesome explanation of Calendar Spreads with all the "what if/then"s. It definitely improved my understanding. Thank You!
  • scottto_2: ...
    That's a $70 gain.
For that I would use the current December $(450-70=380) call value to estimate the possible reward.
The December $380 is currently about $6250.
    For reward-to-risk purposes that's (6250-2500)/(2500-1100) = 3750/1400 = 2.7 to 1. ...
  • jr3345: @scottto_2 $TSLA $gain $loss -- look forward to your updates. GL
  • Cheryl_in_FL: @scottto_2 $TSLA $gain $loss I guess you mean 11/13 vs. - "By selling the Nov2 (2nd week of November) $450 call against your long Dec $450 call " since it is already 11/8
  • Vehid: $GAIN second day of breakout. triple average volume
  • issues: @Vehid $GAIN Div 7.69%, X day = 11/17 (Div run?) At this point it would be chasing in my humble opinion.
  • Vehid: @issues $GAIN I do agree. One thing bothers me though, stocks are either high and starting a new position is chasing or they are low and might consolidate for a long time. Seems to me one can find enough excuses for not starting a position but not enough reasons to start it. Honestly, this is not bad. Buying at the bottom of channel with 3-4% stop is my favourite spot. Not much surprise either way
  • Henry: @jan2138 $GAIN $SOHO My experience was with both these stocks, exercising the warrrants was ultimately a profitable venture. I looked back and both of these occurred in the 2008-09 time frame, which was the worst of times. David Gladstone said he would never issue rights again.
  • jan2138: @Henry $GAIN $SOHO Were they the non-transferable type which would not trade in the open market?
  • Henry: @jan2138 $GAIN $SOHO I'll have to research that, 2009 was a long time ago and I don't know where I put my wallet 2 hours ago.
  • jpbel2003: $GAIN yield lovers ...got whacked on inline earnings...watch tomorrow and get in for the 2/14 div. gonna buy more on this dip...
  • Iceman: $IOC, Short Puts - Bought to close $IOC Aug 17 2013 72.5 Puts @ 0.33 for a small $GAIN to avoid assignment

    1. It's fine to be $LONG an illiquid stock that's trading for $2.50. If you're long, then your maximum LOSS on 1,000 shares is $2,500. Stock can't go below zero. And even if the company goes out of business and has liabilities that exceed the cu ...
  • bigbartabs: MENTOR MORNING NEWS... @Tim S... thanks for your continuing posts each morning. Great stuff. One thing that caught my eye in in the 12 recession indicators link... (and I find comical)... How can the sequester be 1 of the 12... let alone cost 750,000 jobs? There were no cuts. Only a reduction of future government spending budgets. Is the CBO suggesting that the 750,000 people that will lose their job... will be hired in the future? And then immediately fired? How else could the 750,000 people be effected, if the cuts are future growth only? I wish the folks that throw this stuff out there would actually stop and think about it a bit... apply some logic, rather than hype. I would say that if the government budgets are forced to be cut... it is more likely that we will $GAIN 750,000 jobs, than lose them... in the private sector! One man's opinion.

  • mharps: #Yieldhogs: I have probably way too many of high yielders-here are some I think that are in a decent current buying posisition (daily chart).MPW,$MFA,ANH,$TICC,PNNY,$GAIN,BWP,$NRP,ETP,$PSEC,TCAP,TWO. Also $ANLY and $AGNC but I'm not adding to those right now.
  • murfields: $GAIN FOR 2012--- $SPY is up 10.4%. Murfield's 10 up-trending stocks up 26%. #Options players with low cost and great gains made what? Anyone willing to share?
  • futurepants: $GAIN FOR 2012 - @murfields, that's fantastic! And there's a lesson in there for everyone. But just be aware that some folks are still learning and likely not having nearly as good a year. I'd even be willing to bet that some newer folks are down...maybe even substantially. I speak from past personal experience! (Well, not the "substantial" part, but I have definitely lost money when it seemed like they were giving it away for free! ;-) -fp
  • markor01: $GAIN FOR 2012... My portfolio is up 104% YTD without use of #options, but I do use margin for day trades as times.
  • romar: @EH i use esignal.com...they're upgrading their platform. i've been telling them to look at worden for ideas. esignal is pay site...real time quotes....portfolio screen that can tell me how the portfolio is doing...gain $ for the day....gain % for the day....$gain...%gain. watch list. they can also do #options. always good to know what your portfolio is doing real time...watch list. good luck
  • Henry: unremitting $SPG was lucky. DB pulled their line of credit from one of David Gladstone's companies $GAIN at the height of the crisis. They had to sell off loans at a loss and issued stock through warrants, which gave the shorts a chanced to almost obliterate the stock price.
