- jojo1480: -the only stocks in my database of 2300 stocks that are working are the Educational Stocks , and I wouldn't use any of my friends or enemies money to trade them, but if your incline to, here is a few of those stocks: $STRA CPLA $ESI DV $APEI BPI LOPE...Positions none
- jojo1480: Educational Stocks- New Fed Regs guidelines due out next week. I am expecting that they won't be as stringent or as "bad" as originally perceived. Place these beaten down stocks on your radar: $STRA APOL $CPLA LINC $ESI DV $APEI COCO $BPI LOPE. No positions, I do daytrade $STRA and APOL.
- jojo1480: ISRG- sitting butting heads against the 15dma, has been resistance the last several weeks, if it pusher through looking for a higher finish at the close, and I' ll be done with this daytrade. Midterm elections probably has a lot to do with the $XLV (repeal and reform?). Position Long $HUM CI $WLP MHS and $ISRG (daytrade). Educational Stocks- might start looking at this beaten down industry, new Fed Regs. due out in the next 10 days, consider the positive ramifications of having a "friend" in Congress. Richard Blum (hedge fund dude and husband of Sen. $D Feinstein) has been buying $ESI (of $ITT Tech school). No Position.
- snmtraders: $ESI CECO - Blum Capital bot 200,000 sh $ESA at $54.73 last week, and has sizable positions in CECO. Regulatory changes will be the determining factor of which side wins the battle of the education stocks, and @Dick Blum is the husband of Senator Diane Feinstein. Given the recent Kudlow report that our Congressmen/women, and their families are free to trade on inside information, I'm wondering whether Blum's recent purchase suggests the regulations will favor these stocks. Is anyone following the reg changes that could make some sense of this info?
- jojo1480: $ESI CECO- In my past post i documented extensively regarding the regulatory overhang, I believe a decision is coming around Nov. 10, i basically daytrade long/short $STRA APOL $CPLA LINC $ASEI COCO $BPI LOPE $DV and out at the end of day. The articles i read convinced me that if the Republicans take over the House, than this industry will have a friend, pretty risky environment. good luck, no position.

- vitaly077: Taylor - $CECE - $COCO - presented at $BMO conference. All of them saying that changes which may come from the dept. of Ed will have a minor short term effect. Eisner is #shorting $ESI -APOL- and so on in his hedge fund. He claims that these companies are the next lehman brothers in a sense.
- vitaly077: $ESI - For those interested in #shorting. Looks like it will re-test the 50 level and then will see.
- jojo1480: Educational Stocks- The performance of these bottom of the barrel stocks are pretty good, considering the down market we had last week. For those that are interested I will try to give a weekly performance update and see where these dogs end up in the next several weeks. $STRA +5.42%, $APOL +5.97% $CPLA +6.46%, $LINC -.44%, $ASEI -3.16%, $ESI +2%, $DV +.2%, $COCO -9.6%, $BPI -.96%, $LOPE +2.6% Chart wise they are in the penalty box, and consolidating away from the lower BB. Small positions $STRA and CPLA.
- jojo1480: Ed Stocks- $EDMC APEI $DV STRA $APOL CPLA $LINC COCO $BPI LOPE $ESI, all these educational stock market caps have been battered due to the gov. gainful employment proposal. Many of these schools have/are initiating repurchasing of their stock. The changes are coming and not quite sure what the new proposal will be, in short you will be playing with fire. Analyst have recommend $STRA APEI and $CPLA with the least exposure to the proposed new rules. The shorts have targeted $STRA CPLA, thus the big moves since monday. I suggest if you have an investment account buy 1-10 shares and observe how these stocks behave. Long $STRA CPLA $APOL and $ESI ( most size positions are traded on intraday moves). I am not a bottom feeder, but this can be the opportunity for really big gains. just my 2cents.
- jojo1480: $ED Stocks- $ESI APOL $CPLA STRA, great intraday stocks, wouldn't hold it beyond that, watch the opening print. Short term long $CPLA ESI and APOL. corrected stock symbol $ESI not ASI. $CPLA, huge short position, huge upside volume last Monday, short position is ~28%, don't know if the price action is the result of that, or that all of these stocks are down ~50+%. Re thinking the trade might hang in there a little longer. Edited on Aug 18, 2010 11:29 Edited on Aug 18, 2010 11:29
- vitaly077: $CRM - $LLL - @Dannomon- Looks weak but I would rather short at snap back then break down. I did have some short like $ESI and WHR. Still have some on in WHR.
- vitaly077: $ESI - covered my short. Too far below BB but could still keep going lower. 70 was my goal. Take a look at $WHR as a short.
- jververis: $ESI I mentioned education stock last week on a good up trend. Did not buy and they drifted lower. Multiple upgrades today and all are on fire today up 7 to 9%. Something to keep on your radar. John
- jververis: $AN May want to also look at AutoNation popping out of a $VQ, similar to KMX. @Dan, can you review the education stocks? Feel like I have missed a big move in the group. Missed a limit order on $BPI once it cleared the 200 day. Bought $APOL just over the 200 day now. Is there an $ETF to follow the group? Stocks with big runs: $LOPE, $CPLA, $COCO, RLRN, $UTI, $ESI, $DV, $EDU, $LINC, $BPI, $CECO, $STRA, APEI. So frustrating missing a move like this. Thanks, John

I trust his opinion and therefore opened a short position on the stock, but I'd like to know for myself how his hypothesis was formed. Thanks in advance! @Jon
- Dan: Hey Team. Just popping in before leaving for airport. Couple of things: 1. $TXN is bucking the trend. Market is down, $TXN is climbing higher. I don't have time to really get into it, but the videos I think are pretty clear about trading these turnarounds. Nice to get some on the breakout to be involved. But don't chase it too much. Make volatility work for you, not against you. 2. Education stocks: Many seem pretty toppy. $APOL is a good example; $ESI is another. (Just sayin') OK, have a good day! I am outta here -- pulling chocks at 8:30 am.
- Bob: @Eileff These are the ed stocks on my watchlist... most look pretty good today: $ESI CPLA $COCO LOPE $APOL APEI $STRA
- Gabe: Educational stocks on fire. $ESI rocketing higher on steroids on good earnings, and the sector follows. See $APOL, $COCO, STRA. Strong weekly and daily charts.
- Gabe: Buying breakouts has not worked for some time, but look at the moves in $ESI and IDCC. $EPIQ also setting up nice for a potential breakout. Also, big move in $ANW, and a bounce from the 50DMA in SHEN. All these stocks look pretty solid to me, with strong weekly charts as well. We need more leaders like these to get the rally started.
- Bob: Just reading the weekend version of Investors' Business Daily and came across an article that serves as a good reminder. Basically it suggests trading what the market is giving us (right now) and while caution is well-advised, there are stocks performing very nicely and some decent trading opportunities. I think the point is that one does not need to be either an optimist nor a doom-and-gloomer to find good trades. Stick to good disciplines. The "blind dog finding a bone by persistent digging" principle is at work. $ESI is another education stock with upside potential. Up 2.5% today and in a volatility #squeeze camped on the 50-day moving average...but not a ripe as $APOL is.
- haroldzero: $ESI Thx @Dan. Gap up $3.00 this morning
- DAN: :-) $ESI is a little choppy if you look at it every day, but the overall trend remains higher...with prolonged periods of consolidation. Any stock that doubles betweenApril and July is OK with me.
- brianc400: $ESI - Here is an education stock that is right at support in a very nice uptrending channel with decent price action today, although on light volume like the rest of the market today. I bought some earlier in the day at 84.60 with a stop below the day's low (81.45) which seems to represent the maximum power of the bears. $ESI beat and guided higher for the last quarter on July 24. The intraday action in $APOL actually looks similar, although the candle looks better because they opened at the low where $ESI dropped right after the open.
- brianc400: raz, I may certainly find out that $ESI is really in an $80-90 trading range that started in late June with two fakeouts to each side. Might cost me some time, but I have so much cash anyway that I'm not concerned about that just now. I don't really expect to tie up more money soon in $ESI than my 1/3 initial position. But my expectation is that the 50ma will continue to rise and we'll make a higher high. After all, we have made 4 higher highs and 5 higher lows since April so I think the odds are on my side. After a recent beat/raise in a sector that is working though I do not expect much downside here. http://finviz.com/publish/081408/ESI1dl1541.png

impressive analysis over the weekend. With the stronger dollar, leadership is becoming clearer to me as well. I agree with you that the dollar's break above resistance is a significant psychological factor.
Friday's action was quite encouraging, ... - SMR196312: @Dan what a call on the educational stocks. $ESI up $14.00 plus as I write.
- SMR196312: $ESI, I'm laughing. it was up $14.00 plus, now only 6 Plus, sorry about that team.
- SMR196312: @Dan's educational stocks are doing really well. Look at $COCO & $ESI, just note, $ESI reports earnings July 24, 2008 In addition to $ESI, Look for $POT, $CELG ,BUCY, $BNI & $DO to report as well. Have a good trading day.
- SMR196312: One area that I've been following is the educational stocks, thanks to @Dan's Video a few days back. $COCO, is now breaking out of a volatility #squeeze, also look at $ESI, $APOL & DV. I think $ESI reports this week. $ESI chart looks really nice as well. Long COCO.

I also like $ESI, $COCO and $APEI in the education area. $APEI focuses on military and Homeland Security education.
There are a number of oil stocks that seem to have hit support # or are just waiting to break some more hearts. In the #divide ... - iancleghorn: Schools One area that seems to be attracting some money is the group IBD lists as 'Commercial Services # Schools.' I took a look at the group because Devry (DV), Capella (CPLA) and Itt Educational Services (ESI) are presently on the IBD real time list of stocks being heavily bought by institutional investors. (The top five stocks are free at www.investors.com. The longer and more interesting list of 20 involves a subscription.) The IBD list is a tricky one because what institutions are buying today might not be what they are buying tomorrow. The schools with charts warranting inclusion on a watch list are $APEI, $ESI, $COCO, $CPLA and $STRA $APOL is stunningly bi-polar. It has suddenly gone from being more depressed than the bottom Bollinger Band yesterday to euphorically leaping through the top one today. @Ian
- Eric1020: Just covered my $ESI short for a small gain after it hit my stop. -Eric

FAIRX: $CNQ, $DISH, $EMN, $ESI, $LUK, $MHK, $SHLD, $USG
Another (unnamed) port that some of you may recognise: $C, $COP, $CVS, $EMC, $FCX, $GS, $HOLX, $HPQ, $NYX, $RIG, @SGP, XTO
So, my initial thought is to stick to these stocks and pick out ... - iancleghorn: The Forum has an eye on $CPLA which is moving up handily. Two other education stocks $EDU and $ESI are also moving well. $GRMN, on which I'd cast aspersions about a week ago, is mimicking EMC. @Ian
