  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures

    Hi, Friends,

On days with a clearly defined trend, selling/buying the first breakout from the range established during the first 30 minutes is a reasonably reliable trade. Today, the low had been 3912, so I set a sell stop at 391 ...

  • Forexpro: @Niche Hi, Niche, Hope you're doing well. The nice folks at State Street, due to sensitivity around what is, after all, a database consisting of clients' trading records, don't disaggregate below sector level. However, the largest components of the STOXX Europe oil and gas index are $RDS/A, $BP, $E, $REPYY, $EQNR and $VWDRY. All of the ADR charts look "fair" to "pretty miserable", although there are some hefty dividends on offer. If institutions are involved, it would appear to be via nibbles rather than gulps, thus far. Of course, most institutions are buying the stocks on their primary exchanges in EUR or GBP rather than the ADRs. Interactive, among the brokerages with which I'm familiar, does the best job of enabling trades on any and all exchanges. Sorry not to be able to provide more specific info; all the best!

  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures

    Hi, Friends,

The E-mini futures have carved out a rather modest range during the extended session - 2735 to 2724.50 - and is currently closer to the top than to the bottom at 2731.25. Yesterday's regular session high was 2737.75 ...
  • phgruver: @Forexpro $E BREXIT is a tempest in a teapot. Typical European diplomacy, "Much ado about nothing!" Self interest will dictate that they get over their hurt feelings, and get on with life. Long term, nothing really changes, with or without a deal.
  • Forexpro: @phgruver $E Thanks, Phgruver, Your confidence is bracing. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures HI, Friends, Neither high nor low established in the first hour have been seriously threatened, and we have sideways drift. At the moment, there's a slight southerly bias. I'm doing virtually nothing; today is "Take A Large Check to the Accountant Day". Hope your day is going well; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures HI, Friends, Well, we're still some distance from taking out yesterday's high, but today's high has been exceeded, and the E-mini contract is in an uptrend for the session. I'm willing to buy at 2614.50, and to add at 2612. If only the first order is filled, my profit target will be 3 points; if both get done, I'll be looking for 3 points (2616.25) on the combined position. My stop is at 2610.75, so I'm risking 2.5 points plus a tick of slippage, or 2.75 points. Pretty much even risk/reward, not ideal, but trading with the intraday trend provides a bit of comfort.. If the price action moves higher, I'll move my orders up accordingly. The goal is an initial entry between the 38.2 and 50 percent retracement levels, and then just above the 61.8. Hope your day is going well; all the best!
  • rah: @Forexpro $E /ES - Congrats - looks like steak on the Bar-B-Q for you. /ES went from S1, past PP up to R1 on the Pivot Point Marks (well almost). I am sure you captured this. You know where I am looking (I suspect). I always preferred the slides to the Monkey Bars. rah
  • Forexpro: @rah $E Thanks, Rah, Well, Plan A didn't work out; no pullback of consequence based on the day's range. You can see my forlorn orders, just sitting out there by themselves, in the oval. When 2617.75 became a pivot low, I draw a second set of Fibs, and bought the pullback to confluence at 2622. Still, that was less than 4 points from the top, so it was only worth 2 points to me. Easy trade, only moved half a point lower after I got in, but I'm afraid that it feels more like turkey burger than steak. :-) Hope you're raking it in hand over fist, Amigo; all the best!
  • rah: @Forexpro $E - Well I was riding the slide down fairly well till the computers came in and took a chainsaw to the lower half of my trade. I skinned my knee, but did not get hurt too bad.
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Not a new low for the session, but closing in on it. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Decent pullback in the E-minis following the initial surge, now back at the session high. Stochastics are sufficiently low that it seems a fair bet that the high will be taken out; I'm agnostic as to whether any momentum can be sustained at that point. I've been long a few times, and ready to call it a day in the futures. Here's hoping that the day is treating you kindly; all the best!
  • 1winkie: The market has proven that volatility can return, but even after a huge sell-off the markets have come roaring back to recapture much of what had been lost. Stocks were indicated to open higher on Monday, and the bull market is now only about a week ...
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Well, I haven't complained about a lack of volatility once today. I may have uttered a discouraging word about a lack of direction, once. Or twice. Here's the Market Profile; the orange distribution is from the overnight session, and the charts to the right are the same (that is, today's regular session), just displayed differently. Hope the day has gone well; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures

    Hi, Friends,

Thus far, I've been long twice in the E-minis; one loser, one winner, for a tiny net gain. I then took a short, more to get a sense of how it feels than out of an expectation of making money, but it's definitely the ...
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Well, the good news, I suppose, is that the E-minis remain above the overnight lows. Of course, we still have roughly 90 minutes to go (futures close at 4:15 ET). I've been sporadically setting alerts on stocks that look as though they might be ready to rebound. The alerts are set at higher, not lower, levels; I don't want to buy anything until it's shown at least modest interest in moving higher. As Dan often reminds us, it's okay not to catch the bottom. If all goes well, there's plenty of money to be made in the middle, and I wouldn't mind making some back. Here's hoping that your day is going well; all the best!
  • woodman: @rck89 $MYL $VRX And, btw, every other Pharma/Biotech CEO would like to put a contract hit out on Bresch for the fire she just ignited under all their a$$e$.
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures, $MSFT Hi, Friends, Well, the price action in the E-minis is at the extended session's Point of Control, which is also the midpoint of the overnight range. Not setting up for a huge opening, although the price action at the moment is slightly below yesterday's regular session close. Once upon a time, people quit even great jobs to go to $GS; now, $MSFT's Chief Operating Officer is moving to join Citadel. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, With roughly an hour to go until the opening of the regular session, the E-mini futures are pushing higher. The FT attributes some or all of the move to a stronger Dollar, which seems like a "we need to have a reason" analysis. We'll see how it goes; best of luck today!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures, $RRR Good Morning, Friends, The E-mini futures remain above yesterday's closing level with 90 minutes to go until the bell. Most of the overnight activity was at lower levels, but there is a growing number of Time Price Opportunities above the "half-back" (midpoint) level. A sizable IPO is coming this evening; casino operator Red Rock Resorts ($RRR). Lots of big names are in the syndicate ($DB, $JPM, $GS, $BAC) and Theflyonthewall.com reports that the offering is several times oversubscribed. Perhaps needless to say, while the founding Fertitta brothers will be selling a large chunk of their stake, the offering is structured in such a way that they will retain effective control. It's the largest IPO in a while, though, (27.25 mio shares at $18-21) and could offer some trading opportunities. Best of luck today!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, As noted earlier, buyers seem disinclined to be aggressive toward the high of today's range. The E-minis have now put in a low for the session; we'll see how intense the selling gets. Let's hang on to our dough; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Seeing some profit taking in the futures now, likely in response to the retail sales print, and perhaps due to some concerns about the impact of the rejection of the "living wills" on the major banks. For those long close to the top, and seeing profits erode or losses start to become larger, the urge to square up and take another look can become quite compelling. I've been there, myself. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, While it doesn't resemble a Team Bezos rocket ship blasting into orbit - on good days - the E-minis have put in a new high for the session, on reasonable volume. Has there been sufficient long liquidation to entice some new buyers into the market? Here's hoping that your day is going well; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Aragorn noted the move in the cash index, and the E-mini futures are also through yesterday's high. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, I've attached the Market Profile graphic from overnight, along with yesterday's regular session Profile. You'll note that there was a probe to the downside that found buyers, but the price action has only been able to retrace to the bottom of yesterday's regular session range. I'm guessing that overnight traders will be entering the regular session somewhat short, so unless there is a strong push lower, we should get a bounce in the futures as positions are squared. I have a mild bias to the downside, but I picked up a bit of short exposure yesterday, and rightly or wrongly I feel no urgency to add to it at this point. Best of luck today!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures

    Good Morning, Friends,

  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Just like old times, with the algos/hedgies pushing to see whom else they can force out of a long. I don't think that there will be much buying unless/until the pressure eases, which will presumably be the result of short covering. Rallies will no doubt be sold again with enthusiasm. Not much volume is going through, but enough to keep the prices changing. Let's hang on to our dough; all the best!

  • Forexpro: Re; $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, New session low, but painfully slow; I got short on the break, ended up taking a smallish loss, not the way I would choose to end the week, really. Nonetheless inclined to just leave it alone now, since while the overall action makes sense, it continues to be a bit choppy. Here's hoping that your day is proceeding well; all the best.
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Good Morning, Friends, Thus far, buying breaks to new intraday highs has worked, and I've been to the well three times. I think that will do me for now; if it pulls back to between the 38.2 and 50 percent retracements of the day's low to high, I'll probably take a long - currently, that would be between 2104.50 and 2103, with a stop below 2101.25 - but I'm wary of continuing to play until something breaks, so no further breakout trades unless/until there's a level that holds against repeated tests. Those, when they break, tend to create the greatest amount of followthrough, but that's for later. http://tos.mx/YR21HX Here's hoping that your day is going well; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, I neglected to move my sell limit order down as the price action came south, and was fortunate enough to get a fill. Up 5 points for the session now, and done for the day. I'm shutting the machines down so as not to be tempted to trade further; when I start to feel that this is easy, there's likely trouble ahead, trouble behind. That notion has crossed my mind on occasion. Let's hang on to our dough; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures

    Hi, Friends,

Since this was an experiment, of sorts, or one in a series, be it noted that the first break of the session low at 2083.75 was only good for 2 ticks, to 2083.25. The rebound from there went as high as 2085.50, just a ...
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Not that exciting, really, as NFP days go. Soggy on balance, though. Attached is today's E-mini price action. The shaded area represents the zone within which 70 percent of the day's volume was transacted (yeah, it is pretty narrow), and Monday's pivots and support/resistance levels are noted on the right hand scale. Monkey Bar/Market Profile for the week, with sequential and aggregated looks (both regular session only): http://tos.mx/fWq2ig http://tos.mx/bMpGmt The same charts, but Volume Profile (volume at price, rather than price at time). Since volume is volume, the overnight sessions are incorporated: http://tos.mx/agnnqF Here's hoping that the week was a good one. On to the weekend!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, The contract has reached the first resistance level, which is also a Pivot Point. I'm curious to see if enough momentum remains to push it through the resistance zone. Hope your day is going well. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures

    Hi, Friends,

The chart of today's E-mini futures action isn't much to write home about, but the close was positive. I was leaning short, and I presume that I wasn't alone, but there wasn't any lasting satisfaction to be had in th ...
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Relative to yesterday afternoon's price action, this remains in an uptrend. On the day, it's already reversed a couple of times, which would be a functional definition of "chop". I could, of course, be wrong, but it looks and feels like day traders playing the range, to me, with limited institutional involvement. Here's hoping that your day is going well; all the best.
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Under water for a little while, but profit target hit without any interim gnashing of teeth. Could have been more aggressive with the profit target, always easier looking left on the chart. Curious to see if the low will break, otherwise, up 4 points for the day, and done with futures. Here's hoping that your day is going well; all the best.
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, Nice push to the upside thus far this morning, but I'm made slightly wary by the lack of enthusiasm in the $TICK. It's been above zero throughout, but given that the stochastics are now oversold, I'm looking for some degree of pullback, perhaps to 2102. The cash-futures basis is around 8 at present, so adding that to the futures prices will provide a rough equivalent in the cash $SPX. I'm off to read compliance documents for a few hours, as I have my consulting hat on again. Best of luck today!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, The E-minis are showing some signs of wanting to come higher. If I was still involved, I'd take another shot at selling right here (2103, or so), with a stop above 2105. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, I did end up buying the dip in the E-minis, and actually did a decent job of selecting a low-risk entry. Unfortunately, I only held it for 1.5 points, and there was, in turns out, quite a bit more to be had. I'm currently flat, and missing out. There is more noise than is usual these days in the SP pit, although I'm not hearing many client orders come in at present. The high has been 2112.75, and the contract as I type is hovering around 2111. Hope you're faring well; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, It looks as though we may be putting in a bottom in the E-mini futures at the intraday 2052.5 low. A move above 2060.25 would reinforce that view. I'm done for the day; despite leaning the wrong way on a couple of occasions, breaks tended to see some additional momentum, a good thing for those like me who enjoy buying and selling them. The first retracement from the new low also worked in textbook style, although I missed adding an additional tranche by a tick, a constant annoyance in the futures. Here's hoping that your day is continuing to go well; all the best.
  • Forexpro: Re: $E-MiniFutures Hi, Friends, This can be a rather odd, random time of day. The expected outcome would be a resumption of the uptrend and at least a retest of the 2055 high either side of 1 PM EST, but that isn't invariably the case. A move below 2047.50 (roughly, 2052.75 in the cash $SPX) would signal that the uptrend is complete, for now, and that a downtrend is in formation. First, lunch. :) Here's hoping that your day is going well; all the best.
  • Forexpro: @Forexpro, $E-MIni Futures Hi, Friends, Hmmm, shoulda held onto that last short a bit longer, but it was sort of icing on the cake. Still a bit irritating to miss the fill at 2029, and not to hold on for at least another point. I did mention over the weekend that among the various trading sins, my most pronounced is taking profits too early. Here's hoping that everyone is realizing their full profits; I'm about to put a covered combo (long stock, short puts, short calls) in $MS, which has dropped enough on the day to become interesting. We'll see how it goes; all the best.
  • GOOSE: $E-MINI'S @Forexpro Thank you Kev, but it seems my broker doesn't engage in trading futures, so I can't do so. I may be changing brokers, so I'll see. GOOSE, just honking away.
  • rah: $HUM @GOOSE - no advice on #options, stocks or short term direction as this is also giving me the willies. As you can see from my initial responses below though I am recovering with the help of my friends. It does seem that $HUM has done well (although 1/2 of what $CI has done in the same time frame...lucky guess?). You may do well to trust your instincts as an opportunity over the next few days may be more to your liking. -btw - now it seems that you have capitalized on your new substantial fortunes (& recent SMM misfortune) to trade up, enlarging all the letters in your name. Hmmm, and they said there is no signs of inflation! You could have picked the less opulent - @GOose - or the more humorous - goo$e - cha ching. - rah
