- stairm01: $ZIM Any of you ZIM holders that held for the dividend of $2.95 on November 28 received your dividend of $2.95 - 0.74 for foreign taxes today. Didn't know you'd have to pay taxes in Israel, did you? Me either.
- vcondry: @stairm01 $ZIM there is way you can avoid the 25% FU tax theres some forms and crap on ZIMs website you have to fill out and submit. If you plan to hold it long its worth your time if its just a swing trade then its not.

- stairm01: $ZIM Reported earnings this morning. EPS of $9.66 beat the analyst consensus of $9.54. Declared a cash dividend of $2.95 per share payable on Dec. 7 to holders of ZIM ordinary shares as of Nov 28. Was long going into earnings and sold at the open pop. Have repurchased and sold this weeks calls against my stock.

- vcondry: @cdmdave $ZIM you got $4.75 divvy minus the Israeli cut. Whats your cost basis? If you bought it on the huge run in march to get that $17 special dividend then yes you are taking a pummeling but if your cost basis is around $60-70 you've recieved about $20 in dividends this year alone to offset the pullback. the P/E is 1x and they have been printing money...not like the old shippers that were horribly indebt and had a foot in the bankruptcy court.

- vcondry: @cdmdave $ZIM don't take this harshly but you really need to look over the basics of the stock your trading. Especially shippers and energy are going to have some rather large dividends that way you know if your getting pummeled or getting paid...or both lol.

- kbrowe: @marklesparkle $ZIM could be because it's an Israeli company. I had a position earlier this year when they paid out the $17 div with TD Ameritrade. The only thing I didn't realize is that because it's a foreign security, Intl. laws read that the country of Israel withholds 30% of the div, and you have to go trough a process to possibly get the 30% back (check their website for details), or you can get a US tax credit next April. I had my position in a tax advantaged IRA account so that didn't apply and I forfeited the 30%. Maybe that's why.

- vcondry: @Geewhiz $ZIM thank you. I noticed that if you sold early on the day of the dividend payout you could avoid a lot of that ugliness and still get the dividend. Round one i thought it was a fluke. Round 2 I realized I was correct but also a fool for not selling as soon as I was dividend eligible.
