  • Docoof: @champ $OIH $ONG $XLE $ERX $ERY $XOP $GUSH $DRIP #ETFs #Great #Russia #Oil-production Thanks, champ. The big difference between $OIH and the others is that $OIH does not have any holdings of this sort: $XOM, $COP, $PBF, $DVN, $VLO, $OXY, $CVX, $HES, $EOG, $FANG, $APA, etc. It exclusively consists of OFS stocks. All 25 of its holdings: $SLB, $HAL, $BKR, $TS, $NOV, $RIG, $VAL, $HP, $FTI, $PTEN, $CHX, $WHD, $NEX, $LBRT, $NBR, $OII, $XPRO, $RES, $HLX, $PUMP, $WTTR, $SLCA, $DRQ, $CLB, and $OIS.
  • debeers: $COP/$MRK/$SCHW/$TS-relative strength so far above the others compelled to buy $ARDX-down due to index, not research. Still way above the 20 day but had to sell it. Fell below VWAP.
  • Justhanging48: @debeers $COP $MRK $SCHW $TS $ARDX Taking a starter on $TS. Thank you for posting your actions.

  • Docoof: Watching $TS to see if it can take out and hold above the June and July highs ~28.30. SMAs are pretty tight.
  • Docoof: $TS Worked out nicely. At hod 28.96
  • Docoof: $TS Trading near the hod (= 29.14) on good volume. —$TS is the 6th biggest holding in the $OIH ETF. Tenaris, based in Luxembourg, is a global supplier of OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) pipe to the oil and gas industry, with an estimated 37% market share globally. Tenaris has manufacturing facilities and sales offices in key oil- and gas-producing regions and has major welded steel operations serving the U.S. and Latin American markets. Sales in the key seamless tubes business are well distributed across the globe.
  • Docoof: $TS at hod = 29.18
  • Docoof: @scottrades If $TS has the kind of chart that appeals to you and could be instructive to show in a video, can you cover it sometime this week? I have no position in it and am reluctant to start new positions in general, so don’t hesitate with a negative response.
  • scottrades: @Docoof $TS I see what you're seeing. Nice pop above a little base. My only negative is that it's hard to buy gaps in this market.

  • bigbartabs: "real" default... @Iceman... economic suicide for any president... ditto. Lew has been talking trash as far as I'm concerned, regarding all his 'disaster' terms. I have heard several well placed people in the government know that there is plenty of ability to pay our debt, and shift money away from more non-essential spending. I don't buy it. If Lew is warning that 10/17 is the 'disaster' stage, and it's real... then we need a new Treasury Secretary immediately. That would be the 'disaster'... a $TS that allows the country to be that close to the edge of true failure. Then again, what do I know... I'm just a private business stiff that funds all this stuff.

Looking into this now. $TS is a 26.44 $B = Mkt cap co. $X is only = 2.78B mkt cap. $TS has 1/2 the revenue. Saw it pop on one of my watchlists, not sure if @Dan covered this one, I think it came from a proprietary site. Have not found any news today. Recently came across their project with Shell Oil and another one with Petrobras the month before. Deep water pipes seem to be their specialty. Let me know if you find anything. - rah
  • jimster: Same issue...I use TradeStation...I had to pull files from $TS for the year (2 6 month time periods)...and this year spent $5 on a Excel2txf converter...I've created the file, and about to import...I was using TT online...in order to 'import txf' files...you need desktop version...which TT sent me a download for free...I'm about to import it...we'll see how it goes. If it works, 10 hours of work will be done in about one...and I still need to address the four wash sales...which I'll do manually.

  • jververis: Tradestation # Just wanted to let you all know that $TS just came out with their web based and apple based trading platforms. Now you can access your account/trade from any computer or apple tablet. This is new this year and just now starting to explore. I really do love the low commissions with just $1 per 100 shares up to 500 share amount. I have saved a ton of $ over my Schwab and Fidelity brokerage account charges (6.95 per trade. Hope this info helps. John
  • MSL: $GLUU @ $TS, apparently they pre-announced, and they beat on revenue, opening at 340pm or so they say.
  • MSL: $GLUU @ $TS, twitter. You can get a general consensus of what is going on reading many posts on a particular topic. Hope you were in the stock and hit the sell order once trading was resumed.
  • Goose: TRADEKING @ scotto .....Scotto, thank you for the information on Tradestation. For some reason, I thought $TS was a trading tool and not a broker. I'll check them out. Thanks again for the Bull Put trade idea on $REGN last month.
  • jververis: Tradestation - look at $TS also, made 7 trades yesterday and total cost was $10.50. I also have a Schwab and Fidelity account at 6.95 per trade, but don't do much there, mostly buy and hold accounts. Good luck, John
  • Aragorn: Scottrade - the fills suck and no pardon for the French they suck. They offered another member 300 free trades for a couple of months still there until they end. You need a direct access broker and no middle man - you pay up at Scottrade in blood on the fills. on $TS when I hit the sell button the px I see is my fill no delay. Count the seconds on Scottrade and see how long it takes for them to steal your money. All IMHO

  • Mark Dz: $TS Chart Settings. I know, I know. Rookie question... I have migrated to a new computer and for a bunch of technical reasons I cannot migrate my $TS chart settings to the new computer. I want to start fresh. Can someone provide the basics of "@Dan's Chart Settings". Daily, Weekly, 15 min and 5 min? (MA--simple or exp) Stohcastics, MACD, Vol oscillator, etc.) Yes, I can watch videos and pick up most, but there are some settings that cannot be lifted from video. I am a $LONG time member and have scoured the archives for this answer. Also emailed Worden and SMM... they laughed. In the "Old Days" on a Saturday you could email @Dan personally and chat about it... now he is all grown up. Any help from regulars would be appreciated. Mark Dz
  • Henry: $TS Chart Settings @Dan went to all simple ma's because the questions of simple vs exponential were never ending. Daily 20, 50, 200 Weekly 10, 20, 40 15 & 5 min he uses an 8 period sma for trading, but uses the daily settings when he is flipping time frames OBV Chaiken, he threw that in for a while, I haven't noticed if it's still there. Stochastics & MACD I thought I had them when I started this post but I don't. In @Dan's tutorial on MACD he has buy settings and sell settings. Search MACD in the tutorial section. @Aragorn, myself and others use Worden's Volume at Price and TSV. It's your chart, you can use anything you want. @Henry

  • jververis: $TS - I have been using for over two years. Very robust and expansive platform. You can easily cut and paste in and out of excel, @charting is very good and places your buys/sells directly on the chart. I have multiple desktops with IPO list, intraday @charting, watch lists, IBD lists, etc. Trading costs are very low with $1/100 shares up to $5/500 shares. Trade over 5000 shares per month and no platform fee. It does take about 6 months to master, I still don't understand the screening and easy language formats but it really does suite all my needs. I also have Schwab SSpro and Fidelity ATP but have now primarily only been on TS. Hope this helps. John
  • jververis: Tradestation platform - I have been with $TS for the past two+ years and I can't remember their platform ever being down during market hours. High recommend their platform and with $1/trade per 100 shares easy in and easy out. Hope this helps. John

  • Stressed26: $TAX QUESTION - Thanks you guys for all your input! Glad to hear that this isn't a problem unique to me. Misery loves company! :-) The weird thing is that I have a @Morgan Stanley account and USAA (my previous brokerage). Using TurboTax, it pulled my tax forms from both accounts....the $MS account had the cost basis entered but the USAA account did not. I'm h*ping that come tax season, $TS will be better than USAA at calculating cost basis. Uggghhh. I think I just ruined the mood talking about taxes this early on. Haha!
  • jververis: I have been with $TS now for 18 months and love it. No downtime and very functional and customizable for your needs. But, yes there is about a four to six month learning window. I have shifted all my trades primarily from SSPro and Fidelity ATP to Tradestation. Not too impressed with SS Edge. Agree that the tutorials are basic and I have found nothing 'easy'about easy language. But it really does suit my needs and give your self some time to learn and develop. Good luck, John
  • jververis: I have Fidelity ATP and Schwab SSPro and both of these can not compare to the Tradestation platform for watchlist, trading, @charting, versatility, etc. About a six month learning curve but now up and running and have not seen anything to compare. About 90% on trading of $TS and only 10% on the others. Downloaded the Schwab StreetSmart Edge, not even close to the $TS platform, etc. Trade 5,000 shares per month and no platform fee. That can be 2000 shares of a $1 stock in and out # 4000 shares traded. Fee $6.99. Hope this helps, John

  • reddirt41: Trade Station- I could not trade without it. I have used most of the large retail platforms which seem years behind to me. $TS allows you to be quick and nimble with very fast execution. If your an active trader it is a must have in my opinion. The rates are great also but you need to trade enough to get the platform for free. John
  • CM_Kemp: TRADE PLATFORM - G'morning everyone! I hope everyone is still alive and well after these last couple days! I was wondering: what trade platform you guys use to track your stocks and/or your watch lists? I currently use Yahoo Finance to track my stocks, but it's become increasingly inadequate - the biggest sticking point being that the quotes are delayed at least 15 minutes. @Dan's video shows him using TradeStation, but from what I can tell, $TS costs money. Are there any free sites that can do something similar? I am dying to switch from Yahoo. Any ideas? Thanks guys (and gals!)! Happy trading!

  • futurepants: TradeStation (alerts) - Question for any $TS users.... I'm just starting to evaluate their platform and it seems at first blush like their alert system is managed completely on your local computer rather than on central servers and so you need to be logged in (and with the relevant charts and/or quote window(s) open!) for any alerts to go off. Can someone confirm or deny this please? Obviously, it's not the best scenario for someone who is not at the same computer all day. Thanks! -fp

  • circlem: $TS - Is in a long sideways trading range. It is now in a volatility #squeeze waiting for a breakout. However, it could be said that $TS has vastly underperformed the market so it is not necessarily a buy until the breakout occurs. $TS manufactures welded steel tubular products otherwise known as pipes. It can be seen as a secondary play to oil services.
  • circlem: $TS - The top of the trading range is 48. The upper BB is roughly 47. Moving above that is needed otherwise sideways is it. There is good support at 40. Stock is currently at 42.42 so there is room to move up even within the range for those that trade channels. Risk can easily be defined, but is there enough go in $TS to be worth parking some money? Sideways is not exactly what we are looking for so without a breakout, $TS may not be Doc Holiday's @huckleberry. I just see the potential.
  • Forexpro: Re: TradeStation Hi, @Jdy61270, I use TradeStation and Fidelity ATP. Really like TradeStation, and liked it even more when I was trading futures. Excellent @charting, very flexible, and usable option analytics. Definitely worth a trial. There is a cottage industry of add-ins as well, which I've never done anything with. For what it's worth, I tried it out alongside Think or Swim, which a lot of people swear by. I was never able to get comfortable with the TOS interface, for whatever reason, but $TS seemed to fit like a glove. I also hear good things about IB, but I've never tried them. Hope this helps a little; all the best.

  • RtHereRtNow: Suzie-PAET Yesterday you said you were putting a trailing stop under PAET. I use trailing stops pretty often, but am often conflicted on where to set it. Usually I feel I set them a little too tight. But, I also feel that a $TS is really and exit strategy not so much a "let it run" strategy, since you will ultimately get hit. Sometimes I'm just trying to #squeeze a little more out of a winner. How do you determine what kind of pad do you give yourself?
  • CarolB: Has anyone worked out @Dan's volatility #squeeze for TradeStation's scanner? If not, could someone reiterate @Dan's criteria in plain English and I will see what I can work out with $TS for anyone who might be interested.
  • JB95C4: dunsek $ATR & Stops What I have been doing is when I open a position, the stop is set at a dollar amount based on support. As the position moves into the green then I start to put a trailing stop(s) as my profit grows. Typically I end up with 3 stops: First $TS at 1.5 x $ATR # some portion 25 # 33 % Second $TS at 2 x $ATR # some portion 25 # 50 % Final Drop Dead, not losing profit stop at some level # this stop may close the position or leave a few shares to keep it on my radar. I am looking at swapping the number of shares for the $TS as the amount of profit I give up overall is acceptable but I want to find a way to keep more, balanced against position size. That is my struggle now, how much to sell based on how much profit I am giving back. @JB

  • franknzupan: I read a similar article on Investopedia. Just a note of caution on $POT - it has a reputation of being an extremely volatile stock. Trade/tread with caution and use a trailing(stop). I canceled my $TS and put in a limit order and the stock dropped $10 today. I *think* it was overdone and added to my position, which I almost NEVER do - average down. It might be a $80 stock by the middle of next week. Then what? OUCH! Don't worry, I'll set a stop today and hope it does not gap down Monday morning.

Thanks for sharing your tool box! I went through my Folio using it and like what it shows. This last week has been, shall we say interesting! I use 3 stops when I am in a profitable position, 2 are Trailing @ 1.5 and 2 x $ATR with the third set at w ...

As always, your comments are well received. I agree this would not be the only method to enter or exit a position but I can see the value it adds to the improved overall performance. When I ran through some stocks I could see that if I used this alo ...
  • Bob: Barb - @JB: Just a reminder that when using a percentage $TS, that PRICE (minus) STOP amounts gets larger as the price goes up. If an dollar amount is used, it does not. Basic and you've probably already got it figured in. Just a reminder. @JB: I like your stop plan for a couple of reasons, first of all you are trying something and are willing to modify it and secondly, it's a great example of how good risk management includes on-going "management."

2 are overweight but the tide keeps rising so I am using $TS to capture some profit and bring them back to a full position size.
3 are half to two thirds positions and I add when they hit the price I want.
3 are starter positions that I feel are g ...
  • tradertrish: Regarding last night's video -- Using Technical Analysis Scanning Techniques Does anyone know how to do this scan with Tradestation? I found the industry groups, I just don't see an elegant way to scan by the percentage difference between LAST and the 200dma. Thought I'd ask here before I spend a bunch of time searching the $TS forums and/or writing something. Feel free to email me offline. Thanks in advance, Trish
  • TDAdams: $TS Help please. Did a hammer form yesterday? And, if so, does it suggest a trend reversal ?

If my eyes are as good as I think they are, I see four of those patterns in the $TS move which started is early March.

In each case, the stock traded lower the following day and then continued the rise.

    On Thursday, $TS broke a 200dma but clos ...
