- GreenGhost: @steve71 $GOLD $GDX $NUGT $GLD $SA Could be ; couldn't tell you. I don't want to be messing with specific company operational, financial, regulatory, sovereign and other baggage risks a single entity brings to the table ; my trade purely a levered ( via 3X long ) off the entire sector ( the miners) which is in of itself levered to the underlying commodity ; that trade itself based on the key technical support and resistance levels in the underlying commodity as the record short in institutional position in same
- steve71: @GreenGhost $GOLD $GDX $NUGT $GLD $SA Point taken. But I prefer the best looking chart. Plus Seabridge is Canadian, avoiding at least the sovereign risk. If gold goes up, we both win. Your $GOLD will win big. If gold does another leg down, well...

- Peppermint: My biggest loser lately is $SA. Fortunately I bought some puts last month to hedge my position but still it's been a big loser. Anyone have any thoughts on whether gold stocks are bottoming? Or would you just dump all gold stocks? I am leaning toward holding on theory that bottom is near. Wishful thinking?
- Aragorn: @Peppermint $SA - into the 3rd std deviation Bollinger - it should snap back but why not use todays low as your out. You already are late to sell. I read Green Ghosts analysis. Keep that in mind, but maybe you can get some of this back. It closed higher than the open that is positive. GL
- Peppermint: @philharmonic I presume you are talking about $SA, owns big gold fields in Canada. Was holding for long term, but I may start to sell out of this position and keep on watch list for when gold prices bottom. Fortunately, I was hedged with some puts so kept my losses down. I agree I wouldn't add to positions in gold right now. Trying to decide whether to exit or if there is still more downside.
- Peppermint: @janner0814 Thank you @janner0814. Fortunately I am mostly in uptrending stocks. I have only been with SMM for a few months and still dealing with some old positions. But gradually culling the positions that aren't working. (Re $SA)
- Peppermint: @GreenGhost Thank you GreenGhost for the great analysis on $GLD. I am thinking I may sell half of my $SA positions and hold the rest. I am still hedged with $6 puts through Aug 21 (Bought as an earnings hedge when it was above $6, didn't expect this big of a drop in $SA.
- Peppermint: @Aragorn Thanks for your analysis on $SA. I am going to exit half my $SA positions and hold the rest. I have $6 August 21 puts that I bought when $SA was above $6. Have large gains on these. So I am partially hedged on my position. Have 10 $6 puts. Thanks for all the help on the forum.
- Peppermint: @DAN Dan Thank you for the detail answer re strategies on $GLD and gold stocks. I appreciate your thoughtful answer. Amazing how fast the price of $SA fell, most of the decline the last 3 to 4 trading days. As you and others have pointed out, gold stocks are not working now. So I will begin exiting this position and stay away until such time as the gold sector shows some life. Again I appreciate the great advice from you and others on the forum.
- bullmoose: Precious Metals - Yesterday I posted that $GLD was catching my eye due to the triple low on the weekly chart. Today I read about George Soros buying a significant amount of $SLW. So I checked some tickers and found the following that really look like good buys here. When you look at them, take a look at their weekly charts first. $SLW and $GG are at the lows of channels and bouncing. But, they're not among my top choices. They are $EGO, $RGLD and $SA, all of which have made higher lows. A COUPLE others to consider are $GOLD AND $BVN. I'm not saying to rush out and buy them. But they are looking tasty.
- msb: $SA - some of the gold stocks are holding their own in this sell off. I am long SA from last week.
- msb: $SA - This may be a good entry point for $SA. It has been holding at this support level for over a week. At least it is a low risk entry level. Long.
- msb: $SA - I posted SA earlier this morning. So far the trade is working.
- msb: $SA - something lit a fire under $SA today. I don't see any specific news.

- LouieQuag: CLDX/GILD @Tricia One more thing, you mention that you will monitor the insider selling of $CLDX and I know that you are also quite bullish on $GILD as well. Are you concerned and should we be concerned with the insider selling of GILD. I know that we are awaiting some numbers on the sales of Sovaldi this coming spring and I believe there will be a run up into their earnings so hopefully we don't correct too much from here as we approach their next earnings call. We're a little weak today but I think the entire sector is weak as well. I read this article in $SA and based on the approval of Sovaldi and anticipated success, the size of these insider sales seems strange to me: http://seekingalpha.com/article/2017281-gilead-sciences-5-different-insiders-have-sold-shares-this-year Your responses are always appreciated!
- Poppy: @bxshin: Thanks for your constant help in the form of daily post like this. I noted that yesterday's post was different, ie. not from $SA - was that right? I get the same 'WallStreet Breakfast'- so the one yesterday was noted. Did #CNBC source dry up too? Just like to compare them all. Hope you are well, nice and warm and not in the winter mess.
- erdruido: $CHTP - Closed position. Decided not worth the risk waiting for FDA decision tomorrow. Nice balanced article on $SA this morning.
- jan2138: #yieldhogs: SDRL; I read many of yesterday's posts when I got home and was particularly interested in the link posted to a $SA article which I read with interest. If that article is the reason for the gap down, investors must be really nervous. I can't believe that folks would react based on an obvious amateur's analysis. Remember, $RBC recently rated it "outperform". I added some this morning at 35.50. Since 4th qtr. 2009, they have increased the #dividend 14 times with 2 specials to boot. Is management so insulated that they have lost sight of matching cash flow with #dividend flow? I don't think so.

You can see that it started moving on Friday and took off today. Good way to get into the green. We should all start writing articles for $SA, huh? The decision marks a victory for the struggling mining equipment makers, whose sales have plunged during the past year, and a defeat for U.S. miners such as Cliffs Natural Resources (CLF), which had argued the loan would hurt their interests. $CAT CEO @Doug Oberhelman said in October that 75% of the company's projected $11B drop in sales this year will come from the division which primarily sells mining equipment.
- Jorma: GGRGF - This is a 3-D printing and industrial conglomerate, based in France and currently trading on the European Nyse (under ticker $FINU on the SBF exchange through my broker, IB) and reportedly on the OTC as GGRGF, although my broker cannot find that listing as of yet. It is up 11-12% today, likely on the basis of an $SA article "Why I Believe Groupe Gorge is Worth US 35+ Thanks to its New 3D Printer Business." This looks like a cutting edge company that actually has made significant sales, and also is a conglomerate involved in nuclear infrastructure and waste, underwater robotic mines, mobility and steering of submarines, and all manner of safety systems, etc. I am now long, and looking to get longer. The stock can be followed on StockCharts.com under the ticker GGRGF; caution, it is currently more liquid on the French exchange than OTC market.

With 98% of FCC staff furloughed, there's no-one around to give the final approval that says the devices don't cause interference. - Tricia: NWBO: @Edgarzb - re the $SA article - I specified reading the 40 comments since the article itself is incorrect. I appreciate that you use company information... Like all company PR, it is subject to interpretation. I hope they find a cure. I have no position and will not pursue one. GLTA.
- Poppy: Biotech Stocks reading: I found this article/interview of an analyst in $SA useful in that it covers a bunch of my holdings...Please use your own judgement as to the validity of the article...since it will be your fingers that will push the buy/sell button. Good luck to us. http://seekingalpha.com/article/1600852-6-oncology-focused-biotech-growth-engines-mara-goldstein?source=email_portfolio&ifp=0
- JamesL8565: $F --- $SA is reporting that Ford will start selling F150 trucks powered by @CNG. Very little else in the report yet but I would anticipate more information as the stroy develops. Like, for instance, who is going to manufacture the engines? Any thoughts on what this may mean for $WPRT and CMI?

There is an article in $SA saying more: http://seekingalpha.com/article/1555612-fcc-approval-of-merger-of-wireless-assets-is-a-game-changer-for-alaska-communications

Celgene has a deep pipeline with progress in Myeloma, MDS, Acute Myeloid Luekemia, Lymphoma, Anemia, and Inflammation. As of Jan there was hope for 3 blockbusters - Apremilist is a disappointment, but Rivelimid and Abraxane for pancreatic cancer ... - Drsatx: @Jeff - That is a nice course; allegedly, $SA is supposed to have @rain the next couple of days. Hope that (1) it actually happens, and (2) @rain won't get in the way of your outdoor work.
- redamber: $SRPT - There is a new article on $SA
- redamber: $LINE - (IMHO) I believe this to be short covering only; today is ex-div date - the shorts must be out by $EOD or pay dividends. There were 2 bear articles on $SA over the weekend so I fully expect the bear raid to be sustained. Hedgeye is still tweeting about $LINE this morning. I am buying puts near close.
- couchturnip: $TROV - Above normal volume for the last few days and moving up. New research agreement with $ILMN which according to the article has a history of growth through acquisition. Long at $6.70 from a while back and interested in any ideas/comments on how to buy more and manage the risk. My take: I want to see if it levels out above this new 52 week high, or goes parabolic. This move could all be about the $ILMN agreement and just be short term, or it could be something else. I'd like to see it rest around these levels and establish a price base where I could set a stop in case I'm wrong. In the mean time I'll just enjoy the small piece that I have. Here's the link to the article I found at $SA when looking up $TROV on Yahoo Finance - http://tinyurl.com/o38fz2a
- rah: $X - also $TS (Tenaris $SA - Basic Mtls. / Steel & Iron) up 9% in the last hour of trade !! Looking into this now. $TS is a 26.44 $B = Mkt cap co. $X is only = 2.78B mkt cap. $TS has 1/2 the revenue. Saw it pop on one of my watchlists, not sure if @Dan covered this one, I think it came from a proprietary site. Have not found any news today. Recently came across their project with Shell Oil and another one with Petrobras the month before. Deep water pipes seem to be their specialty. Let me know if you find anything. - rah
- Tricia: $PCYC - Pharmacyclics - (-.3.8%) , says results of a Phase II study of ibrutinib in Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia patients suggest the drug is a "highly active and well-tolerated treatment" and "provides further evidence" of the role Bruton's tyr ...
- woodman: $TMUS - that's a good question. I'd have to scour my hard-copy articles. You can't access two of them -- the latter two articles - unless you have $SA Pro. Luckily, I printed them out when they first became available on regular SA. My hazy recollection is that he had written about what $PCS was worth in terms of the buyout, but not what would happen when ultimately bought out and merged with T-Mobile. The buyout was complicated in that I got some shares and some cash, and obviously he couldn't have foreseen how that would work out when he wrote, so it's hard to compare apples to apples at this point.
- 5920investsmart: $AGNC #Yieldhogs - Just on $SA AGNC book value "10:34 AM American Capital Agency (AGNC -0.2%) estimates book value as of June 7 of $26.44, off 8.6% from $28.93 on March 31. At the current price, the stock is trading at about a 7% discount to book.
