  • bigbartabs: @woodman $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices ... volume... this has been bothering me for some time. With a rally like we have had, it just seemed to me that we should have had more volume to back it up. Almost seems like there has been something wrong with my charts for the last month. I wonder if the low volume (trickling in each day) was the reason the rally just kept going for so long. Just a few traders / investors finally buying into it each day. Odd.
  • bigbartabs: @woodman $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM $SPY #CreditServices ... just saw your 5:03pm post. My earlier thoughts exactly.
  • woodman: @bigbartabs $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM $SPY #CreditServices I like volume as much as the next person, but we just haven't been getting it yet stocks have gone up. In fact, this has been the case for years. We've had low volume in $SPY for years yet seen a continued move up for SPY. Not until summer 2015 did the price of SPY level off.
  • woodman: #CreditServices (TC2000) have been on fire. Here are some that caught my eye: $YRD - Everyone's darling rocket ship ipo. $PYPL - @aragorn has been pounding the table. Res ipsa loquitur. $AXP - I've been long this one. Easy rider; no Tums needed. $DFS - nice like AXP. $FSC - watch to see if can get thru the 50 day. $TCAP performing well and sports a 10.5 div yield. $CSH, $AGM, $NNI, $GDOT- exhibiting escape velocity and still lifting. $QIWI $OMF, $PHH - up thru the 50 day with room to continue up. $ENVA - creeping higher; buying on pullback to 50 day would be nicer. $MGI - maybe.... $FCFS - looks like phase 2. Watch for phase 3. $COF, $MA and $NAVI - good runs, but nearing 200 day now. $WU - 200 day now support. $SLM - messy but directionally pleasing.
  • TunaHelper: @woodman $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices Just a quick thought: You might want to look at these through the lens of volume (e.g., is the volume increasing?, is it consistently above 50dma of volume). That being said, volume today is very light across the board / generally in the market.
  • woodman: @TunaHelper $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices Yes, volume is down across the board. I didn't have such a micro one-day view. I like the direction and potential of these, but I leave to you and others to figure out which ones you might like best. I'm just pointing you to what is working. It's for you to drill down and find out what works for you and your style.
  • TunaHelper: @woodman $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices The low volume on some of the listed tickers has been for more than one day. More generally across the board today has been a low volume day in the market.
  • woodman: @TunaHelper $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices Seriously, are you giving me a hard time for providing the fruit of my labor. Are you asking me to do additional work when I've been nice enough to give ideas during the trading day. My response to your other comment made me miss the close and something I planned on buying. That was stupid of me. I've provided 19 ideas in one list. If you don't like a stock, don't buy it. All the stocks have potential or have done extremely well already. If some aren't to your liking b/c you want more volume, fine, avoid those stocks.
  • woodman: @TunaHelper $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices CSH - up nearly 40% in a little over a month. Pretty much up every day. You could have bought and made a ton of money or said -oh my, it's lower volume than the rest of the Market is having, so I won't buy it. The stock doesn't care that you lost out, but it's a free country and it's your decision, even if not necessarily the right one.
  • TunaHelper: @woodman $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices Seriously, you are misreading my note. I was not attacking you personally, not giving you a hard time, nor asking you to do additional work; rather, I was offering some additional information to consider. That's it. Relax. I was just pointing out that some of the stocks on the list had weak volume recently - and is another technical metric to think about when determining whether to buy or not. One of my rules is "Volume never lies, but price does sometimes." It has proved helpful for getting into good trades and avoiding hazardous ones. In any case, if you took my comments as a personal attack, please note that it was not.
  • woodman: @TunaHelper $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices Have you even looked at the volume in $SPY since the 2/11 triple bottom? Go ahead, check it out. It has been terrible. Every single day but one since 2/11 has had volume UNDER avg. 50 day volume. If you've stayed on the sideline lamenting the lousy volume, you've completely missed out on this move.
  • Hackberry: @woodman $YRD $PYPL $AXP $DFS $FSC $TCAP $CSH $AGM $NNI $GDOT $QIWI $OMF $PHH $ENVA $MGI $FCFS $COF $MA $NAVI $WU $SLM #CreditServices Thanks for the tickers. Banging through the charts now.

  • Lou: $PHH a small stock that has been working on selling itself - possibly by splitting its two lines of business is moving strongly. Smells like some insiders know something. Long shares and short some calls.
  • ted19: $PHH Sorry for the incorrect post about $PHM; its PHH, a financial services firm, that's up 18% this am.
  • Lou: @ted19 you did mean $PHH not $PHM. Offer pending for one of two lines of business - company has been working for some time to sell out. Maybe this is it.

  • Lou: $PHH - a relatively small cap financial company - two lines of business - private label mortgages for large companies that don't have their own origination servicing capabilities & fleet management (translate- car and truck leasing) seems to be catching a bid in the last hour or so. I'm waiting for a buyout with a fairly large passive position that is up a lot over the years. Not endorsing but may be worth watching.
  • snmtraders: $PHH @Lou - Are you still a fan of this one? Looks like it's squeezing and trying to push through the 50ema.
  • Lou: $PHH - still holding though I've been goosing a bit with covered calls. Partial position of 22.50s for 3/16, hopefully will expire. Otherwise I'll roll. Ideal stock for current housing/interest rate environment. Selling calls is a good way to exit stocks with big spreads on bid/ask but now I don't want to exit. Only draw back is the small cap, though that makes a decent takeout candidate.
  • snmtraders: $PHH @Lou - Thanks for your reply. Had to go for a little shoulder $PT so just getting back to SMM. I put in an order to buy the May 22.50 calls that didn't get filled. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, and entry price remains key for me.
  • Lou: $PHH @southern - I've been waiting for a takeout of $PHH for some time now - I may be waiting a lot longer. There is no predicting as to when and if it will happen but as long as the company continues to perform and the stock keeps inching up we all get paid to wait. I'm very comfortable with my position and with the knowledge that a deal is bound to happen, perhaps later than I have been expecting.
  • southern: $PHH @Lou I don't have a Barron's sub though : ( http://tinyurl.com/99kac4l

$PHH Corp Follow Up ...from briefing coments yesterday

There were a few questions on why $PHH was a winner in the deal. The comments were from a Sterne Agee analyst and ...
  • southern: $PHH is the big winner in this Res Cap deal from Briefing...do any of you guys know why? "Commentary from analyst on $OCN win; believes positive for $OCN as it can still make money with a $3 bln price tag; positive for WAC; believes $PHH a big winner; $NSM loses in the deal"
  • Lou: $PHH - I've been in for some time and have a significant position. $PHH has a great mortgage origination/servicing business and an extremely profitable "fleet leasing" (translation - auto finance) business. Small cap, making money, and significant ownership by several private equity funds - some long term some more recent. I expect that it will be sold sooner rather than later. @Lou
  • southern: $PHH @LOU Thank you! :)
  • southern: $PHH @lou...Scopia reports 10.7% stake in $PHH Corp
  • Lou: $PHH @southern - Scopia is new to the party; Fine has a decent position and Pennant has had a massive influence on this company since it waged a proxy fight some years ago to oust entrenched management and put in caretakers. Pennant has to be thinking about an exit. @Lou
  • southern: $PHH very interesting...thank you @Lou I think the analysts will be out tomorrow with the upgrades. I will pass anything else from briefing along. Thank you :)
  • Lou: $PHH - one of my long term faves is smoking today - up about 5%. Sweet spot business - mortgage company (works for a lot of private label names), mortgage servicer, and fleet management (translates as truck and auto leasing). Ripe for takeover as control was acquired by a private equity fund (Pennant Capital Management) and Pennant should be looking for an exit by now. Relatively smaller cap so relatively thinly traded. Not for in and out trading. @Lou
  • Lou: $AFL, $AIG, $PHH, $SUI, $EXPD, $COP, $DVN - I don't post my ideas very often and those that follow my posts here probably think that I'm a three trick pony in investing, generally writing about $ACAS, $NRF & PSEC. While I love those yielders, I am g ...
  • davewells: PHH...another name to consider..it is currently in consolidation but has been moving steadily higher all year...it sold off late last year on some debt maturity issues that went away when a hedge fund took a major position in the stock..their mtge refi business is currently booming..i am looking to add on a pullback to the 15.75-16 area..a pullback to the 200dma around $15 on a european meltdown would be a gift imho...both $OCN and $PHH are stocks i am comfortable holding--along with my yield hogs-- in this crummy market..fwiw..dave

  • Lou: $FLEX PHH - $FLEX looks like it is again gaining momentum. Hope some of you are in it. It has been a great ride since it came out of a #squeeze in December and IMHO has a way to go. It is manufacturing many components for the tech industry. About a year ago it was floundering with excess manufacturing capacity - now it is smoking. I would guess that the "I want my money back" guys are long gone. $PHH - similarly, an old favorite of mine that I've mentioned several times over the years is making new highs and as the mortgage industry is coming to life this company is a leader. If it sells the very profitable fleet leasing business and redeploys the proceeds in the mortgage business it goes a lot higher. @Lou
  • Lou: $PHH - has given us a gift entry this morning with the announcement of new convert issue. Lots of us have taken the gift. Still down more than $1. Nothing has changed as far as I'm concerned. @Lou
  • Lou: $PHH -- have I mentioned it lately? Continues to smoke! Anyone else here long this one? @Lou
  • Forexpro: Re: $PHH Hi, @Lou, Yeah, I was kicking myself when I saw your post last week, 'cause I got out too soon, and lost track of it. I'll kick myself harder now. As the man used to say, "good things sometimes take time". Nice trade. Take care.
  • LDG: $PHH ... I am long . Up 21% ..My favorite is $PFF up 127%. Thank you Jan. @Dana Linda
  • Lou: Team -- Poll? Favorite long term stock. Post one (and only one) to put away unless something untoward happens. Might be fun. Can be an ETF. No need to post reasons -- I'll start: $KSU edit -- Bet you thought I'd say $PHH - still love it but I don't think it will be around that long. Someone will buy it. It's been a great ride so far. @Lou
  • Lou: $PHH & $CNS - I continue to love them. They continue to move with upper BBs. MAs stack up with shortest highest and longest lowest. Tiger by the tail and I'm staying with them. I'm finally moving up my stops, just in case. @Lou
  • Lou: $PHH - same song, another verse. Great earnings reported - upbeat release. CC at 10. Hope I interested someone here to take some. @Lou
  • Lou: $PHH - nice pop in price & vol after CC
  • Lou: $PHH & $CNS - @DAN & team -- at the risk of being too repetitive I continue to sing the praises of those two mid caps. Both looking like they are finally breaking out of vol squeezes and I like the fundies (I think I've said that before without any response) a lot. @DAN - any chance for inclusion in the mid-cap video that has been discussed.?
  • DAN: @Lou, happy to look at $CNX and $PHH, but would you please tell me why you like those two companies?
  • Lou: @DAN - $CNS (not CNX) & $PHH Sure

$PHH is a spinoff from the old Cendant and breakup of IACI. It has two businesses - mortgage origination and fleet management. It had a deal (before the financial meltdown) to sell fleet management business to $ ...
  • LDG: Jan, Thanks to you I have made money and growth to boot. I appreciate your work that you share so kindly. Thanks to you I have $NLY up 13%, $UTG up 23%, $PFF up 109%, FCZ up 58% ....New, $HIX up 5% , $PSEC down 3%, $PHH down 1%......I 'll wait for growth while collecting DIV. Thank you $SO VERY MUCH for the income and knowledge. God Bless !!Linda
  • Lou: $PHH -- same song, another verse. Looks like this one is finally getting some respect. Upgraded by $FBR with a target of 23. @Lou
  • Forexpro: Re: $PHH Good Morning Team, Thin days like today can see orders get filled that wouldn't ordinarily get filled. I've been looking to acquire $PHH for a long time at 17.25, finally got hit today for what will probably be 1/2 position. As I read the chart, a fall below 16.50 would be pretty significant, so I've set an alert for 16.75. I won't be too concerned if it continues to drop today, but my working hypothesis is that 401(k) money, etc. for the month will get put to work next week, creating a bit of an upside bias into earnings. If markets are up next week, I'll be pretty quick to cull non-performers. "Coffee is for closers", as they say. A happy holiday to all. It's just as cloudy in $VT as in $MA, but I've got taller hills to look at from my deck. All the best.
  • Lou: $PHH - I'm again posting about this name, notwithstanding that it hasn't received any interest here. Compelling fundamentals and moving up along top BB. I'm looking for an entry to buy more.
  • Lou: Do nothing -- I'm with you Suzie. After being stopped out of most of my trading positions during the downdraft on 6/16-17 I have decided to just watch and wait -- bored silly -- until I see a clear signal that the correction is completed. Still holding my income positions (mortgage #REITs etc.) and a few compelling uptrenders. Speaking of which, I'll post a separate note about $PHH as a follow up to my previous posts about this security. Thanks for posting again Suzie. @Lou
  • Lou: $PHH - @Dan & Team. I've posted about this one before. Good fundamentals, strong chart, game changing recent corporate event -- what's not to like?

  • Lou: $PHH -- Team, take a look at this one.
    Analysis:
    1. mortgage originator (as an outsourcer) and servicer; and @operator of one of the US' largest and best automotive fleet management businesses. Does not take risk in keeping mortgages in own inv ...
  • Lou: $PHH - (see my note above)is coming in a few cents and I plan to buy more later today. @Lou
  • loupoho: $PHH -- Anyone following this stock? I've pointed it out previously. It is trading above 200/50/20 MAs and digesting recent gains within upper BB. Great businesses for the time -- a very well performing mortgage origination and servicing company and a fleet management business (GE wanted to buy it). It is a part of the Cendant breakup and now under management of founders. According to last conference call, servicing portfolio is burning off with refis but being replaced 2:1 by new originations. @Lou
  • loupoho: $PHH Hi all, I've held a small position in this (a Cendant/IAC spinoff) since the refi market started bubbling. It has two businesses - mortgage origination and fleet maintenance. It has now broken out above the 200dma and, if it can break above the 1/2/09 top, it has room to run. All of the MAs line up and it is above the top BB. Volume is static but Stochastics and OBV are moving up. I'm not an expert technician and would appreciate comments as I am thinking of adding to my position here and now. @Lou
