- champ: $SLB @ $67.50 $BHGE @$36.70 ----- Watching and I have positions in both....but I will be looking at volume for direction, in the energy sector....because if they jump, that would be positive IMO because these 2 are in the drilling sector....along with the #Sand plays. I doubled my position size in...... $BHGE.....#BounceCandidate, with a trading position in case it case it takes off.....and the stock is the % leader in the drilling sector ...for now.....but I'm also holding $MDR and it has been OutPerforming for me and I added again this morning to $CXO because of their productions numbers and earnings were really positive.----- I'm also still holding $PDS...

I move into $PDS on 6/29 on the UpGrade from Piper Jaffray and added on the News that #Raymond James UpGraded the stock to a #Strong Buy on 7/6 and I'm still holding my full position.....because I believe it could move up even more because this is only Day 1 and Oil has now turned off the lows....until we get more News from #OPEC on 7/24 and the next inventory numbers on Tuesday (#API).... my #Guess is that they are going to cut Oil Productions even further.....but know-one really knows but thats what the Saudi's want to do because they posted that #News....a couple of days ago.....LOL.

- antfarm: $PDS Oil and Gas services is trying to push up out of a 3 week trading box. No position, just looking.
- jvkeane: $HAL -- Really nice move today clearing last week's high on strong volume. Oil services strong again today and this one looks like it has some legs. Just wish I had been smart enough to pick some up when it sold off last month. Other strong names in the space are $PDS SDRL WFT.
- Darce: Rob, $CSIQ is Canadian, right? It's sometimes listed as a Chinese Solar Stock. Also, are you familiar with a sector or type of enterprise called Canadian Energy Trusts--firms like $ERF, $PDS, $PGH, PVX and PWE? I've been tracking a sector, and it seems like these stocks are doing pretty well. Any wisdom on whether this is a good group of stocks? Thanks!

- JimMac: Finviz.com free screener. Another screen to use that touches on @Dan's thesis of buying off of the SMA-50 is Price below SMA-20, Price above SMA-50. This screen will produce stocks in the general buy area of bouncing off of the 50-Day SMA but below the 20-Day SMA. For what it's worth, this screen($5-$20) is producing stocks in a few sectors including Basic Materials (Oil & Gas services and drillers), #Financials (Regional Banks, Reit's & Insurance Carriers),Technology (Software $ Semi's). Ticker's: $AA,CSIQ, $CIG, $EWBC, ME, MI, PCX, $PVA, $PDS, $PHM, SUG, $ZION, $SE, $SHO, $TLAB, YSI, $BX, $VSH, USG. To name a few.
- ssboy: @DAN Here's one you might want to feature tonight: $PDS (Precision Drilling) In a volatility #squeeze (about 10% bandwidth). Plus support with 50 day exponential moving average. Low volume on last three days. Given the status of the energy sector, this one has potential.
- cgendro1: Another #dividend post from @Phil back in January: I see that some are looking for interest returns. I quite content with holding the following Oil/Gas Pipeline/suppliers and one big pharma with decent returns: @TPP = 7.6% Oil/Gas pipelines $APU = 7.6% Propane distrib APL = 8.6% nat gas pipelines $DMLP = 10.8% nat gas $PDS = 9.8% Canadian & US Drilling trust DEP=7.5% nat gas pipeline/storage and $PFE = 5.7% big pharma as always, /* @Phil */
- evanesce: Hi @Dan, $PDS is a really great company but they are highly seasonal. That's because a lot of their rigs are in remote Canadian locations, so they can only drill in the winter when the bogs are frozen. GW may not be a great company, but they have Barnett Shale and can work year-round. If Precision doesn't pull off this particular bid, I'm nearly 100% sure they'll go for another US driller. They know how to manage drilling and will have big synergies by sending the winter teams into summer sites. More in a little while, I need to run a market scan.
- evanesce: Hi Jan, there are quite a few energy names up today. From my watch list, I see $BOLT CLR $CNQ ENB EP HP HTE NOV $NRP PCZ $PDS PGH PVX SU TRP. Much of the rise is because of ForEx (CAD up about +1% as I type) but subtract that and there is still strength in the group.
- Virgil25: I see that some are looking for interest returns. I quite content with holding the following Oil/Gas Pipeline/suppliers and one big pharma with decent returns: @TPP = 7.6% Oil/Gas pipelines $APU = 7.6% Propane distrib APL = 8.6% nat gas pipelines $DMLP = 10.8% nat gas $PDS = 9.8% Canadian & US Drilling trust DEP=7.5% nat gas pipeline/storage and $PFE = 5.7% big pharma as always, /* @Phil */
- Virgil25: It's not a bad call, rgc, and I've added it to my list. For my money though, if we're talking #dividend stocks, I tend to prefer the following which I currently hold: $PDS, APL, $APU, $DMLP -- all of which are energy related as I feel not only will they be valuable for the #dividend but as energy is and will be in short supply they are value plays as well. I specifically like Natural Gas pipeline plays for #dividend/value and Natural Gas drillers for value. Next to alternative energy -- solar, wind, et al -- natural gas is a feasible, less polluting, available fuel. So I am heavy Nat Gas, drillers, processors, etc. Here's to success for all with their varying methods in the New Year... as always, /* @Phil */
- Virgil25: Oil Drillers & Service. I have been reviewing items in the 2 above categories and came up with a list of attractive or potentially attractive items, based on their PE, chart, and potential: $LUFK, $ESV, $UNT, $GLF, $RDC, $NBR, $HERO, BJS, $WTI, $PTEN, $BAS, $TTI, BRNC, $RES, OMNI. Some of these are land drillers -- many of the latter are natural gas drillers. What with T.Boon Pickens talking about natural gas AND the fact that gas is profitable down to $5, I would have no hesitation in buying land drillers. For those looking at Canadian oil trusts but put off by the possible Alberta legislation, $PDS which pays 7.4% and is a drilling trust might be an interesting play. I don't think the Alberta legislation includes drillers, just producers. /* @Phil */
- evanesce: Oil & gas drillers: last week, @Yachtsman and I were chatting about the increasingly obvious rotation out of this sub-sector. Well, yesterday $PDS reported an awful quarter and guidance was equally terrible. A good write-up is at http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20070727.RPRECISION27/TPStory/ If that's what is happening to Canada's premier driller, the competition looks like better short opportunities than longs. Too bad - this group has been good to me - but I'm staying away until both technical and fundamental pictures improve.
- evanesce: Oil drillers are really taking a beating this month. Yesterday, I assembled a list of optionable names that trade at least 500K shares daily. Ones that have taken noticable hits include $DO ESV $GSF GW $HERO NBR $NE PDS $PTEN RIG; holding their own a ...
