  • ginny: $MAKO acquired by $SYK at $30 per share. Hope someone has some. I have none.
  • davidm: $MAKO I have a few JAN 15 strike calls, bought back the JAN 17.50 calls covering 1/2 of them yesterday. And I will say that I am rarely lucky, but that one may have nailed it! If this comes through I'll need to figure out how to thank Jojo for getting me interested in this one.
  • snmtraders: $MAKO - That was one of jojo's favorites. He must be smiling this morning.
  • jstugutz: Thanks @Tim. $HNSN maybe moving in sympathy with the Stryker $MAKO happenings today. I am no longer on the inside.
  • davidm: $MAKO breaking out, up 6%. No real news that I see. Long and holding.
  • Iceman: $MAKO, $SPWR, $IPI #Green - biggest movers on my screen today. Long all three with covered calls sold.
  • davidm: $MAKO has broken through its recent triple top. Been long in this for a while selling calls against JAN2014 10C LEAPS. Rolled the JAN2014 10C to JAN2014 15C last week and hold no shorts right now, so in my opinion it would be a great time for it to blast off.
  • aloha808: $MAKO @tricia, thanks for the heads up on $MAKO after it popped last Friday. With Wednesday's trading action, are you encouraged by the higher low created? Phase 2 of the breakout? Thanks for all the help with all things biotech. -aloha

  • rck89: $MNKD - Thanks for the $MAKO idea. Any new news (or your usual sage thoughts) regarding the MKND announcement? Could this finally be the week? Thanks.
  • davidm: $MAKO has come to life in that past couple of days, up 9% today, 26% in 4 days.
  • davidm: $MAKO So somebody spent $403,000 in $AH buying $MAKO for .54 over the closing price. Why does that happen? Someone buying 36,500 shares obviously must know what they are doing, although of course that does not mean that they are right.

  • rah: BlockRock - $MAKO Form 13G - Received this notice (01/30/13) that BlackRock also has taken a +5% position in MAKO. The stock is really skidding on the bottom. As I mentioned last month, after a local hospital got their system up and running, that they are still plugging away. I wonder if this will help turn this one around. Still watching / No position. rah http://tinyurl.com/MAKO-BlackRock

Why You Should Ignore the $MAKO Surgical Panic http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2013/01/14/why-you-should-ignore-the-mako-surgical-panic-2.aspx
  • rah: $MAKO @slowtime - Thanks for the article - a decent rehash (or introduction for some) of many of the factors that has given hope of finding the "next medical thing" and also summarizing the prospects, logically thinking retail investors may look for. I will consider a purchase entry ( kinda gave up on it but still get notices from the company - a good thing i guess). It certainly would be a bottom dwelling investment. Looks like it is down, premarket, at $11 today. BTW - don't you get a sense that if BlackRock has taken a 5% stake in it, there is a bit more credibility or comfort in getting in too? rah
  • slowtime: $MAKO - rah. I agree absolutely. Same as for CLDX. For BlackRock to go long $MAKO, it seems like a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. BlackRock have hundreds of experts in They investigate and investigate, then present it to @Larry Fink to get the go ahead, and only then they pull the trigger.

Medical device companies also vary in their product profile, $ISRG robotic surgery equipment, $MAKO joint replacements, both consolidating. I wouldn't read too much into this regarding election outcomes.

  • Diana2010: $MAKO - Appears to be a short #squeeze in $MAKO, perhaps in sympathy with ISRG. I missed it this morning but am watching for an opportunity to get in. Short float 35%, days to cover 10. Earnings should be around 11/1 and they seem to always disappoint. I'm looking for a quick trade.

  • murfields: Scorpine: It's being squeezed, but the last 2 #squeeze on $MAKO led to more down-trending. I wouldn't gamble on $MAKO especially with more competition in knee replacement.
  • Henry: $MAKO Look at the weekly chart. At the last 2 quarterly earnings it has stair stepped down. Earnings are in November. Look for stocks north of the 200 dma, bottom fishing is too hard.
  • Tricia: $MAKO @Henry ---- the bottom still isn't here .... this is in the same space as Nuvasive ..... I actually expect earnings preview to be down... this is a short if anything ... not a buy
  • Henry: $MAKO @tricia I expect another earnings miss. I was referring to @Scorpino's stock wish list today, which includes a lot of stocks below the 200. There are successful bottom fishers in the forum, I'm not usually one of them and that was my best advice considering his situation with stops. @Henry

  • tnt: $MAKO, this is my first post on the company and just started a long position. I received a memo today that my hospital system has trained ortho docs and bought the $MAKO equipment to begin using the system. It seems the stock got way ahead of itself and now may be offering a nice entry here. The company is still making inroads it seems, but expectations were just too high. Anyways, this is not inside information, the entire medical staff got the memo, just my local experience. Also found this other interesting article regrading the @Florida region from July 18. http://health.heraldtribune.com/2012/07/18/venice-surgeon-performs-robot-assisted-total-hip-replacement/
  • tnt: $MAKO, also, with this huge selloff recently, you might see $ISRG taking a look soon to hekp boost their growth
  • tnt: $MAKO market cap 50 million and $ISRG 20 billion. $MAKO still enormous growth and would make a nice buyout for ISRG
  • tstrarup: $PKG jojo1480. Good morning. Are you playing $ISRG before earnings as a lottery ticket? Can't tell if its today or the 19th? Show both. Its down quite a bit with all the $MAKO and other market macros. However, almost no volume.
  • scorpino: Telecom, @rah, thanks for that list richard. Would you advise not holding $FTR thru erngs? I got clobbered making that mistake on $MAKO and swore i'd never own a stock thru earnings again...but I always lie to myself :-) ... just worried about whether I should dump this or not...it's a divy port for my mom and would rather not be jumping in and out but don't want her to be crushed either... and advice appreciated ps, double thanks, I had 8/3 as eps date from fido, $FTR site confirms your date
  • scorpino: Sell before earnings... interested to hear some experienced views. After getting clobbered by $MAKO i"m terrified of holding thru earnings. @Dan says don't take big losses...that pretty much means you have to sell before earnings since the gap down eliminates the saftey of stops Do you folks sell even divy hogs before earnings? Am I being over naive and over generalizing, just based on my bad experiences?
  • tstrarup: $ISRG @Jorma. I just saw 1st commercial from local hospital advertising the da Vinci. Was really surprised. No position. I agree it has been trading differently. I think $MAKO fears crushed it but looking like it might get some steam.
  • kt4000: $MAKO - Hating the fact that I am thinking about entering this - anyone else looking at it - 50%+ off float is short - @Tricia great news.....
  • MSL: $MAKO, looks like a short #squeeze on our favorite stock.

  • rah: $MAKO - @jojo1480. I was thinking about a position as you know, 1 month before earnings (scheduled 8/6/12 after market). I guess that was bad info. Thanks for the #options article and keeping me out. I owe you one!! Do you like it any better at 15.35 ? It is a bit outside the BB ! Richard
  • rah: $MAKO - Conference call July 9th 5pm. I will be listening. As stated earlier, earnings was scheduled to be reported 8/6/12. How can they do that so early. Is that unusual?? I have never seen it. From announcement today ... $MAKO will host a conference call on July 9, 2012 at 5:00 pm ET to discuss its selected operating results for the quarter ended June 30, 2012. To listen to the conference call, please dial 877-843-0414 for domestic callers and 914-495-8580 for international callers approximately ten minutes prior to the start time. The participant code is 98994992. To access the live audio broadcast or the subsequent archived recording, visit the Investor Relations section of MAKO's website at www.makosurgical.com.
  • Henry: $MAKO They pre-announced. They are required by law and the hordes of lawyers who make their living by filing class action lawsuits.
  • rah: $MAKO - @Henry, Thanks (as always) for the comment. Is it common with such vigorous litigation to expect this early reporting? "Required by law?" Guess that is something to watch out for !! I presume in the name of protecting other investors. I sure would have hated to enter today, no notice of early reporting. A quick 35% loss. Even a well placed stop can't help those poor soles. I signed up for all notices from MAKO. Got a few notices re: changes to their recent agreement for funding which included stock purchases from the lender group / way over my head .... but nothing about early earnings report. Richard
  • Henry: $MAKO I think it's Sarbanes @Oxley that requires them to report material changes in their business, but I'm not the forum legal beagle. They now project a 20% decrease in their sales of their Makoplasty system That's a material change. The earnings themselves, sounded pretty good but I don't follow the company. There is only one hospital in Maryland that uses their system. In the competitive world of sawbones, that says something and it is not Hopkins or U of MD.
  • rah: $MAKO - just rechecked my email. Received notice at 4:07pm. Maybe a last minute decision (ha) Will update my findings after listening to conference call 7/9/12.

  • taylor: $MAKO - Jefferies says its analysis of Mako Surgical (MAKO +4.2%) points to considerable upside . After reviewing its free cash flow yield and historical valuation relative to Intuitive Surgical (ISRG +1.2%) and other traditional medical device names, Jefferies believes the shares are significantly undervalued. The firm reiterates a buy at current levels and maintains an Overweight rating on the stock with a $49 price target. I'm out of my stock position, but still short the Aug 20 and Aug 17.5 Puts. They are working nicely.

  • rah: $MAKO - @tstrarup - I was having the same problem with viewing TOS. Over the last year I have added 2 monitors to my laptop at home (I have one extra at work). 1st I got a 24" then a 27". It has helped me see more of what is happening in the bigger market while getting fixated in my trades. Kensington makes this great gizmo that attaches a monitor to one of my usb ports. I think you can add a hub and up to 6 using that method. My lap top is 4-5 years old so if your cpu is newer, chances it will do the trick. GL, Richard
