  • singlemalt: $ITRI Provides smart meters for water, gas and electric utility markets. Raymond James just issued a strong buy with a target of $84. Scopia Capital has made significant purchases thru December in the upper $60's range. Only hesitation is the big drop on last earnings report, though eps is what stands out in Finviz, besides insider transactions. Somebody knows something since then. Starting a small position to keep a closer eye on it.
  • DrScience: $SSNI $ITRI Itron agrees to buy Silver Spring Networks for 16.25 per share, a 25% premium to Fridays close. Itron plans to pay for the deal, which is expected to close in late 2017 or early 2018, with cash and $750 million in new debt. Silver Spring's stock, which was halted for news, has run up 23.5% over the past three months, while Itron shares are up 5.0% and the S&P 500 up 2.8%.

  • muwe: $ITRI Hi crew, has anybody looked at Itron? Went down 10points, finished down 4.80 on an up-day for the major indices. Any idea what this thing tripped over? thx - muwe
  • JamesL8565: $ITRI -- I believe I read that a competitor was designated as a "negotiating partner" to a western utility which intends to install a "smart grid" system. $ITRI was expected to be designated as the "negotiating partner." @Jim
  • J5Dragon: $ITRI They appear to have lost a major contract with SoCal Gas to Esco Tech. for the communication portion of smart metering but not the meters themselves. Itron can still provide those which Esco does not provide. More than likely why stock popped back up.
  • MoSo: My weekly winners - had been very, VERY out of the market, but finally @Dan's "stay involved" sank in and I made some small buys last week and this week. So far my winners have been: $SNDK AFL $TYC all above 5% for the week; $PCL SBUX $VFC between 3 ...
  • MoSo: $ENS ( $CREE JCI $ITRI ) - nice pop up on $ENS yesterday and today (they adjusted earnings up today). Looks like resistance might be pretty strong at 27 (the 52 week high) from the present 26.00. Reports June 2. Trying to decide whether to sell all I have or hold part. All of my stocks right now are at "starter" position levels. $ENS CREE $JCI and $ITRI are the four "smart grid/clean energy" stocks I like to hold. JCi hasn't been my best buy in this last week, but the rest are all doing well. Pretty sure there is a pullback likely very soon, though, and I'm tempted to take profits and run, on these plus $BIDU AAPL (the company I don't believe in but the stock I like to hold) and NFLX.
  • MoSo: $XHB - although I think of it as a retail stock, $HD is part of the $XHB, and I bought a small re-starter position this am. Also bought small in $AAPL CREE $ITRI JCI - stocks I like, good recent earnings, well-defined risk both in the near-term of last Friday and the longer term support and resistance.
  • foxhole: Grease (dlylis) - I agree that much renewable energy investment is based on wishful thinking rather than reality. That's where @charting comes in! If we can find companies with this vision for the future and also have the @charting patterns we're looking for, that could really work. In fact, we have been following several companies like this. $CREE is a great example (until lately). $F also seems to be going seriously into electric vehicles. And @Dan's recommended $ITRI and others. I just think this is a new sector that we should watch carefully.
  • foxhole: $ITRI - @Dan covered this on the last 3 Stocks, talked about it being at the top of the channel and better to wait for a pullback. It looks now though like it broke above the top channel line. I'm wavering between jumping in and more patience....? I think I'll at least get a small starter position.
  • MoSo: $ITRI - I am long this stock, although I caution that earnings are next Wednesday, April 28, and this has thus far been a difficult earnings seasons for a lot of companies - even those with reasonably good results.
  • foxhole: $ITRI - @MoSo - Maybe next week will be a good buying opportunity in that case. I'll be watching!
  • buckos: $ITRI - #Cramer talking about $ITRI right now on M-Money.
  • MoSo: $ITRI - bought starter in this (again) last week, big gap up on earnings. A smart grid play. Currently at 67, resistance at 72. Probably should have added this morning when it was clear that the gap up was supported, but didn't and am now dithering. Market's due for a correction (not a big one, but we've seen a lot of green days lately).
  • MoSo: $ITRI - big move up this morning, looking to trade outside of the band it's been trading in for the last 8 days.
  • MoSo: $ITRI, $CREE, $VECO - $ITRI, one of my favorite smart grid plays, up nicely. Bought back in yesterday am, looking for another 12-15% ride, especially on stimulus spending. Likewise CREE. Approaching 100% return on this one. Sold $VECO end of 09, now it's a bit extended to buy back in.
  • MoSo: $ITRI - one of my fav smart grid stocks has had a lovely run. Watching carefully, may take some profit off the table.
  • richard9f: @Brian, ITRI. There is a 10/20 video on $ITRI on $TSC
  • MoSo: $AMSC - on and off I've been in my fav "alt energy" stocks - $AMSC, $ITRI, $JCI, $ABB, $NWPX (oooo, sold that at the right time), VWSYF.PK, $FSYS, $CPST, $ENS, AONE, $HTM, $ORA, BQE.TO, NWFIF.PK, $CREE, ERII. I pared that list down to $JCI, $CREE and ITRI. I started investing in these before I discovered @Dan, and some of my entries and exits were spectacularly good and many were spectacularly bad. I had more stocks than I can keep track of - around 12-15 is my limit for thoroughly keeping up with price, fundamentals, sector.
  • richard9f: $XLI Digging through this etf, up 2.7% for the week. $UTX and $ITRI could be breaking out. $SLX - big move for the week, up 6.3%. Looks like the steel producers are moving up and the ore miners maybe consolidating after their run up. The potential breakouts of $SID and $GGB have me watching.
  • MoSo: $CREE - Hey, @Dan covered $CREE last night! Wow, one of my dinky little "alt energy" stocks. One that's done very well for me since Sept (when I bought my first stocks after a CD matured), along with $ITRI, $JCI, ENS.
  • MoSo: Smart grid - also see $ITRI, $ELON, COMV, JCI.
  • MoSo: $ITRI, $MXWL, $ELON, COMV, $AMSC - "smart grid" stocks are all up this am - probably on news of Fed funding for smart grid going to the states.
  • MoSo: $ITRI - up 3% for the day, but it reports tomorrow morning before market open. Even if the report is good, I'm not sure the present mood of the market will reward it, so I tightened up my stop quite a bit. I'd hate to be stopped out of it, but I'd hate to lose my gain even more. I bought it back in Feb for around $45, so I'll take $57.5 and know that if I'd been following SMM earlier, I'd have sold some off at around $66 in late Sept.

I bought a small amount to just participate at $59 now all of a sudden I just realized I made 10%. • JamesLutfy: $ITRI - Itron, $PHO Water stock - makes meters to let people know how much water they are using. This is a play on the fact that with less and less drinking water people will want to use this product to become more efficient. http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=ITRI&p=W&b=5&g=0&id=p65049206975&a=177484890 I like the weekly chart too...
  • tmjska: Another observation - don't lose sight of a stock you had at some point in the past, sold, and said you'd look for a reentry if things change. Case in point - ITRI. I sold after the earnigns, which were pretty bad with poor guidance for the rest of the year. Watched it for a couple of days and forgot about it. Today $ITRI is up huge (like a rocket ship entering exosphere) following an upgrade. Needless to say, I ain't on that rocket ship. So... keep it on your radar...
  • tmjska: $ITRI - just to follow up on yesterday's postings: I did not like what the company said about the past and the current quarter, despite a robust backlog. Decided to close the my position this AM on the remaining 2/3 of the shares I held through earnings. The company also received 2 downgrades today (from buy to neutral). I will keep the stock on my radar though; with the stimulus package, things could change for the company. No position at this point.
  • tmjska: $ITRI may want to move higher. Early rotation on high volume. Be careful - earnings after the close today.
  • Patrick: Anyone looking at $ITRI, looking at 7.8% gain today, breakout? bursting out of a short #squeeze?
  • Patrick: $ITRI also announcing earnings today at close.
  • tmjska: $ITRI - looking and thinking what to do... hold or sell before earnings... Long ITRI.
  • tmjska: True, but PNRa was not ramping the day of the earnings... it was in the waiting mode... Does not mean anything for $ITRI, just pointing out the difference.
  • tmjska: $ITRI - any other thoughts, please... thanks.
  • tmjska: $ITRI - Okay, sold 1/3 so I don't worry too much about it.
  • tmjska: $ITRI - looks like a pretty big miss. Down to 47ish in AH. Glad I sold that 1/3. Need to listen to the Cc now to see what to do with the rest in the AM.
  • Russ: Vol Sq or narrow channel I culled these fifteen tickers from a scanned list of seventy stocks that are in a narrow channel, a volatility #squeeze, or just breaking upward from a narrow channel or vol sq. Most (but not all) are liquid with volume around the million+ range. Most are above their 200 dma or well below it allowing for head room, but a few may be capped by their 200 dma. Several have strong OBV and A/D lines. Some we have been watching; some not. These may be worth monitoring this week for active interest and good entries. I tried to select from different industries and avoided medical and biotech (QDEL is a medical). Some have earnings reports this week. $DRQ, $ANR, WFMI, WMG, $BMC, $ITRI, $GLT, PEC, $BBY, $CLF, $CNX, IP, EXBD, $QDEL, ERTS
  • tmjska: $ITRI - attacking the 50ema. Trading at 48 now. if this thing pushes through 50 I don't see much resistance until 60. Keep an eye on it. Long $ITRI and would add on a volume breakout above 50.
  • Ray: $ITRI - Yesterday, @tmjska posted a short note about Itron. I also read a positive note in a newsletter (and a scan of the SMM forum found @tmjska's note). On the one-day chart, the BB have been getting tighter for the last month. One caution I see is that it's been bumping up against the 50-day EMA (note: I use exponential instead of simple for 50-day). It has been consolidating in a fairly tight range on both the daily and weekly chart. Q1 earnings are scheduled to be released Apr. 29. I just opened a starter position. Intent is for this to be a medium term (2-3 month) holding - definitely not short term. @Ray
  • tmjska: @Ray - $ITRI - yes, it is bumping up against the 50ema; it is contained within its trading channel but it showing signs of life. I think the damper on the stock may be the undisclosed secondary pricing. See the shelf registration filed with the SEC: http://tinyurl.com/cor659. I too am long at $ITRI as weeklong/monhtlong play. Long $ITRI with a stop below the established channel.
  • tmjska: $ITRI - does anyone have an opinion on ITRI? It is trading above 50sma for the first since the February colapse. I followed up with a bit of homework after Finerman mentioned it on $FM and bought the stock based on fundamentals (and some poor technical anticipation on my part :( ). Then the company announced a secondary (following an earlier announcement that it would be added to the S&P midcap index). $ITRI is now showing signs of life. I intend to stay long so long as the recent lows hold (~43-43.50), and would add on a push through 50. Any comments? Thanks. Long ITRI.
  • slsteele: $ITRI - looks like the BB are starting to expand. stock at the 50 ma.
  • richard9f: $ITRI Could be the Fast Money/Finerman mention last night. Also, I think yesterday's volume was related to being shifted from and an S&P Small Cap index to an S&P Mid Cap index. Might be a good idea to watch this for a few days to see if it can hold 50dma.
  • Russ: @DAN, regarding the institutional trading, I've lately been wondering how we might detect their buying throughout the week. For example, @Bob and I noticed certain big purchases on Friday, June 27 (end of the quarter) such as in $OME, $ILMN, $ITRI, and MORN. I wondered if and how to interpret these quintuple volumes. But it seems like the institutional trader would more usually spread their buys across the week though, for reasons you mention, not always. Are there ways to detect this buying such as intraday spikes in volume? Or is it better to just track the cumulative price and vol change of credible stocks and infer the institutional buying after the fact? (No need to respond to this but, if relevant, maybe you will address it in your series of posts.)
  • tnt: Hey guys, @Dan wrote about $ITRI in his RealMoney column today. It is currently testing the 20 day EMA. Just picked some up.
  • theturkeybone: $POT -- moot $V -- looks like the cliff stopped at 74.90 --- now near 77.. looks like all you swingers stepped in. :) $MA -- right off 237.01. $C -- moot -- over 27 now $ITRI -- I can only blame myself for not getting in.. there were multiple chances to get it at 102 or less, now at 104 again today. Looks like the buyers stepped in at 9:45 this morning, let's see how this bodes for the rest of today. Now, my dad was pretty happy with the purchases (C and AGU), but now we have to learn about setting stops (and also how they can get blown through). He wanted to set a stop for $AGU at 89, and for $C at 26.50 (a little better I think, but very very tight).
  • smita: TTB: $ITRI earnings out 4/30; this just could be an a continued earnings run!
  • theturkeybone: Good Morning everyone, Futures are pretty tame so far, what earnings do we have on tap? To play "One Stock I saw on TV", or "One Stock My Dad Read About Somewhere", $ITRI -- looks like it could be breaking/testing the 98 level (though if it does it in two days is that a test or just chop?). The stock is up over 100 in $AH, but that may very well be the TV bump. Good luck and happy trading!
  • smita: @theturkeybone: I have been in $ITRI off and on ( thought not in right now). It has maintained the gap since Feb and has been slowly building on it. needs to convincingly break above 100 though. Earnings out on 4/30, so might have a little run up. The only one thing I don't like about this that its too `gappy' just too many gaps on either side, out of which one broke the super trend it had been on till Oct '07.
  • theturkeybone: $ITRI -- looks like the #Cramer effect is working -- now pushing up 104.
  • smita: TTB: I hate gap ups at the top of the range! But will keep $ITRI on radar
  • theturkeybone: $ITRI -- The desire to chase it is gone, but unfortunately so is my appetite.
  • smita: Beaten down techs and Semis: $AAPL GOOG, $OVTI, RIMM, $ADBE, $ITRI, $MCHP, $SMH Retail: BIG, $DLTR, $BKE, $TUP, Homebuilders : $XHB, $TOL
  • bozostew: $ITRI has been strong lately. Anyone have an opinion on this one?
  • tjay: Stew, nice stock. My take is that $ITRI appears to be in a strong upward trend. Has made a strong move up last three days, however, with declining volume. I would wait for a pullback to the middle BB for a possible entry if so inclined. @tj
