  • GOOSE: @chuckd I wrote, "give up the upside $FOR the premium. In my COVERED COMBO M's, I buy the stock, sell the calls and puts around it. Buy stock @ 15.0, $STO 14.0 PUTS, $STO 16.0 CALLS. If the stock goes to $20 say, I will only get paid 16.00 for my stock, which is now at 20.00. So, I give up the "upside", or $4, in this case. the difference between $16 & $20. In return I get to keep the premiums on the calls and the puts. If this is not clear, give me a yell.

Having said that, you could consider the 555.0 strike, that would give you a cushion of 18 points, and a premium of approx. 1.88. expires next week. Or, the 160.0 strike, provides a cushion of approx. 23 points, and a premium of 1.28. So, your trades would be $STO AAPL JAN 14 (IT'S A WEEKLY), 555.0 CALLS @ 1.88, OR, $STO AAPL JAN 13 560 CALLS @ 1.28. I've had tons of problems with it today, but it's far too common an occurance. And I know I'm not the only one b/c I see many members complaining about it. Today, it is useable sometimes, then other times it stalls and causes my browser to crash, which, in turn, causes me to have to shut down and reboot the browser and all of my internet sites that were running when the FUI caused the crash.   • blackjack21: $NFLX Got a case of the "can't help its". Went long 295 Nov. puts. Positive change in my trading: Over trading when things are going well is my greatest weakness. I've been finding that using the trading strategy of buying very small positions (so much so that I could lose the entire position without losing any sleep) is helping me to scratch the itch, without over trading. If I don't trade, I drive myself crazy if the stock takes off without me. Unfortunately, I hate missing a move MORE than losing on a trade - NOT A $GOOD THING $FOR A TRADER. I currently have two "can't help it" positions - both doing well. Itch is scratched; portfolio is insulated from the 'evil twin' of @Blackjack21 trader.

  • DAN: Hi @RAMO. Trading platform depends on your personal trading preferences. I have a long term account at Schwab (pension and personal) that's fine. It's not for trading...it's for the much disparaged "buy and hold" approach. I have a Think or Swim ("TOS") account and a TradeMonster account that I use to mostly trade #options. The TOS platform is much, much more robust. By far! But it is truly a "platform". TradeMonster is web-based. You can log on from any computer and trade. I've got issues with both of them. Neither is perfect $FOR ME. But both are very adequate for anyone. Hope that helps. @Dan

  • challenson: @jja2 I added a bit more comments on $FB, see my earlier post I sold between 31.00 - 31.30 and the 1% rule for me is about 31.60 which is above the current resistance. $FOR ME I'd be very cautious now to jump back in too fast.... (JUST MHO), breaching the high two days ago would be more certain, but we have another two weeks until earnings and there can be a lot of crunching until then. (then again, we'll see about this weird event)

  • Goose: $FOR TAYLOR NEW: Taylor can you please tell me if my thinking is correct. My cost basis is $60.65. I sold a cc on $REGN, the FEB 65'S. $REGN is currently at $78.81. The option is now $14.50. To buy back the option will cost me $1,450. However, I can turn around and sell the stock for about a $17.5 point gain or $1,750 + the premium. Is this right? Is this the best thing to do. It seems like a slam dunk to me, but I feel I must be missing something. Thanks for your help in this matter.

K-1's never arrive before March so if filling early is important to you, stay away. $IF they are in your IRA and they generate over $1000 UBI, it is your broker's responsibility to file tax forms $FOR the IRA. The tax is 15% and one guess who pays it. If they are in a personal account, you get to deal with reporting it. K-1's from MLP's may also have return of capital, which is not taxable in a personal account, so it's not simple issue that K-1 are bad or not.
