- jmscap: @scottrades - a question (that you've probably answered many, many times) when you mention, for example, that you need to see $ZS or $CALM move above the alert price target "on volume", can you explain what you look for in terms of volume? Is there something you need to see immediately after it rises above the target to make your buy decision or what is it that perks your interests and compels you to pull the trigger. Thanks!

Going forward, I'll be looking at some healthcare stocks like $MCK and $DGX, both of which have some strong uptrends. One name that some of you are familiar with is Cal-Maine Foods ( $CALM). The stock is in a steady uptrend, and it sports a divide ... - KirbyFx: You say the yield on $CALM is 13%, but when I look online (yahoo, morninngstar) they say only 6.7%. What am I missing?
- Henry: @KirbyFx $CALM INot my stock, their dividend is not constant like other companies. This is from their website, you do the math and get back to us, not being rude, busy looking elsewhere

- phgruver: @KirbyFx $CALM @Henry is right, the dividend is variable, but it is still substantial. If you take the last quarterly dividend of $3.50, multiply it by 4, and divide by the current price, say $102, you get 13+%. I suspect that's unrealistic, but, that's the math.

- Henry: @KirbyFx $CALM I had to look. They pay 1/3 of their quarterly income as a dividend. I suspect the giant dividend was due to the Biden egg shortage. I would not buy this thinking that will be the future yield "Company reports net income attributable to Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. computed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in an amount equal to one-third (1/3) of such quarterly income. Dividends are paid to shareholders of record as of the 60th day following the last day of such quarter, except for the fourth fiscal quarter." from their website

So maybe the impact of tariff news is an increase in volatility among specific industries. - DrScience: $CALM Like runny eggs? Yep, running all over the bears today. Scuttlebutt is that egg prices will be increasing as bird flu makes a resurgence in the US. From Dow Jones: Cal-Maine surges 8% after the largest U.S. egg producer reports its first avian influenza case. Analysts at Stephens say the continued outbreak could lead to an increase in egg prices, benefiting the company as supplies shrink. Lower livestock feed costs are also expected to benefit producer profits in the coming months. The bird flu outbreak that began in 2022 has ravaged egg and turkey growers in recent months after a quiet summer season allowed producers to rebuild their flocks. Roughly 10 million egg-laying hens have been killed since the start of November.

Smart managers, but in commercial real estate in US and Europe, so only put a portion of your income portfolio in this one and try to get it at $9, solid LT support there.

It may be a great buying opportunity. I don't follow this one very closely, so I don't know what else was in their earnings report. The dividend isn't high enough to interest me (as a long term hold).

That's why egg prices usually go down around Easter, the producers are buried in eggs! For reasons I don't totally understand, though, along with TP, there seems to have been a run on eggs as well.
