Wednesday, July 10, 6:35 PM Molycorp (MCP) +1.8% $AH after surging 16% during regular trading, as other rare earth (REMX) names also rose today: $REE +11.7%, $AVL +15.2%. A Euro Pacific analyst ties the move to reports from China that say the price ... - jetace: $MJN - A couple of good companies bouncing with a lot of room over head are $MJN and ATHN. I also took a position in $AVL based on metal moves. This little guy has been a profitable trade over the years.
- dagdog: $MCP @ ruskinq2 ...just saw this and thought I'd pass it along: 9:49 AM Ford (F) says it's cutting consumption of rare earths used in its hybrid and electric cars by 500K lbs./year and will save hundreds of dollars per car in the process. But shares of rare-earth leader Molycorp (MCP +5.6%) shoot higher anyway, adding to gains a day after China announced a 40% cut in the number of permits to mine rare earths. $REE +5.7%, $AVL +4.5%.
- sueinvenice: $AVL - guess @dan would call it a "goofy little stock". i went long last week as a trade. so far it's working.
- taylor: $MCP - Rare earth stocks trade higher following a report that China will begin issuing a new special tax permit to all rare earth producers that will be required in order to legally produce light rare earths, such as cerium and lanthanum, and the concentrates from which all rare earths are derived. $MCP +2.7%, $AVL +2%, $REE +1.3%.
- TD: $REE - No thoughts on $AVL, $MCP or $REE really in terms of being an expert on valuation. After all they are all future bets anyway. But $REE is in a great technical setup as we speak. The old double #squeeze - a #squeeze of the bollinger bands plus a pinch/#squeeze between two key averages. $REE is in a volatility expansion on the 15 and 30 minute charts as well, well defined. This "double #squeeze" has really been working as of late - $JEF, $DANG, $RENN, $BAC to some extent. We have seen that $REE can move a lot in a little bit of time (e.g. up 49% in 8 sessions during one stretch in January). The small float and high short interest could allow this one to move to 7 1/2 or 8 in no time. Lower risk entry here with some undefined upside. That's the extent of my opinion really.

- Dave: $AVL - I wouldn't consider this running into the lion's den, just "staying involved". I've already booked nice gains on $AVL previously and had a low cost basis on my existing shares. This is one of the few non-high yielders remaining in my trading account.
- 1Boston330: MCP. Clearly blue skies. Rare earth companies will be covered on #CNBC throughout the day at different times with different CEO's--all to determine whether this there is a bubble in rare earths. $AVL is also up 1% premarket. Most of these companies have little or no earnings. I think that they are spec plays.
- TheNatural: $REE - looks good and a fav of mine from last week. I'm playing this particular rare earth move though with $AVL because I was looking at taking some May call #options and the spreads were too wide for me at REE. Went with long $AVL common and $AVL May calls this morning. Looks good.

- TheNatural: $REE - great opportunity to add or start a new position #RHRN as we have a defined risk of the intra-day low of 14.70. Other rare earths such as $MCP, $AVL, and SHZ are already in the green for today so $REE could just be the laggard of the group today but not far behind. $REE has tested 14.70-14.80 ramge twice today and bounced so I'm using that as my defined risk and if it goes lower than the power of the bears is stronger and not exhausted. Volume has been stronger though in the last 1/2 hour on this upswing vs. the selloff so I'm thinking we'll see higher prices at $REE today - line, looking to re-enter at all?

$CAT, $DE, $POT, $DBA, $PCL, $SLW (I have owned it on and unfortunately off, at times for 2 years), $AVL (I have owned it on and unfortunately off at times, since it was a $2 stock. I just exited the position, the other day, when it broke through ... - sambolsm: brwnilocks: $MCP and AVL. I have traded $AVL, since it became a $2.00 stock. Yesterday, as it approached $9, I exited. In one way, $AVL is the best of the rare earth mining stocks. It has nearly the highest quality, of the Heavy Rare Earths, yet discovered. I like their web site. and their CEO is very-well qualified. The drawback is location: Canadian NW Territories, and the cost of mining, and mineral extraction. I hope to buy again on a serious pullback. Like $MCP, it is extremely volatile.

- Dave: $AVL - continuing to advance. Found this one as I was researching the rare earth stocks. This is North America (Canada) based company. The chart isn't that extended and it appears to have very little overhead resistance left. It's been going up on above average volume. Long a partial (50%) position.
- Dave: $AVL, $ICE - bucking the trend and charts looking OK. $IVR continuing to hug upper Bollinger Band. Just a couple to maybe put on your radars, but I don't think I'd rush out to do anything just now.

It's quite a lot to keep track of, so I like having trading stocks and longer te ... - Darce: $MCP - $REMX is in phase 2 of a volatility expansion. $AVL is consolidating nicely above $7.
- avie: $AVL - I sold my $MCP calls at the very top on Wednesday and I NEVER have that kind of timing. I bought $AVL yesterday on weakness and am doing well so far. I think people who want to play REEs will move away from $MCP and in to $AVL or possible REE. Lynas is dead money I think.
- Darce: $AVL - @avie, $MCP will find a bottom / equilibrium and then buyers will love it again. I got stopped on $AVL a ways back, right where that tick is just below $5. That was the evil man behind the curtain reaching down to snatch the heart out of me. Okay, just kidding about the guy behind the curtain, but I did get stopped for a loss. Glad you made some money though. I'm looking to get into $REMX when I have some cash and it coincides with a good buy point. May never happen, but it's a target rich environment out there, so no worries.
- Darce: Rare Earth - Most of the rare earth stocks are giving defined risk entries today. $MCP doesn't look particularly good, but $REE, $AVL and $REMX have defined risk and orderly charts. You can look at them as lower highs (glass half empty) or tests of breakouts (glass half full)...technically, maybe not of breakouts but of jumps off of bottoming processes (if that makes sense). Anyway, it's pretty easy to see where to put your stops.
- TheNatural: $REE - volume bursts. Watching Level II on $REE and volume at the ask is pretty impressive. 2% spike in about 30 seconds. $MCP and $AVL moving up as well. Waiting for breakout above $15 to add more call #options.

- bullmoose: $GMO - For those of you looking at $REE and $MCP and thinking they have gotten away from you, another spec rare metals stock to take a look at is GMO. It's just breaking out of a tight volatility #squeeze today. I bought some (as well as added to my $REE shares). $AVL is another, but it is pretty extended too. Keep partial stops tight. All of these can drop significantly before they even get back slightly under the upper bollinger band, where you'll want to buy more.
