It's another unseasonably warm, misty morning, here in the southeast. I walked my usual 2 miles, and when I came back in, my beard was soaked, even though it isn't actually raining. Thick fog! The market looks pretty flat, this morning. $AI earnings looks to have been a dud. They are still loosing money, just not as much as expected. We'll see how it goes when the markets actually open....

- StockMarketMentor: Earnings Alert -- C3.AI ($AI). This trade is up 34% since inception and that begs for some profit taking. The implied move in the options market is ~$8 bucks. From current levels, that puts a probable downside risk to $33. With the entry at 31.22, even a max selloff would give us a slight profit. In such instances you can always choose to just take the money and run with a smile on your face. That's what I'd do (actually, that's what I did). But more aggressive traders could take 1/2 off the table, and book the $10 profit. You would then reduce your cost basis in the remaining shares by $10, giving you an adjusted basis of 21.22, virtually guaranteeing a great result. Totally your choice. I'll cover this in this morning's training session in 25 minutes. --Dan

But going by your teachings ..... when a stock gaps up with a breakout of ~3 std deviations ... won't it pull back ? Just like $CORZ did ? Also, $AI gapped up because of the association with $MSFT. But $MSFT itself has been struggling for quite some time. So, should we continue to invest and buy more $AI ?
- StockMarketMentor: Adding C3.AI Inc ($AI) to the ATI List. Basis: 31.22 Stop: 29.90 The stock broke out of a base earlier today and is up 17% on massive volume. But the true "breakout" is above the 11/9 high of 29.29. So the stock is really up just about 7% from the breakout. In the interest of managing risk, my stop is really based on the stock holding the intraday VWAP (volume weighted average price). This is now above 3 standard deviations on huge volume. That means something. Manage risk first. --Dan

- kenb: @Auto $AI holding a position from below. Like the MVA cross over, and watching to see if it can hold above the $30 level that's been acting as a resistance level. Also, I think it is still working through the supply of unhappy investors who bought at that $33 level last month before the big drawdown.

- kenb: $AI been moving upwards for about 8 days, and bouncing off a rising 8d MVA. Now above all major averages with the 21d crossing above the 200d, with MVA's starting to curl upwards. Breaking out above psychological resistance of $30. Up about 3 1/2% today on news that they hired Sarah Friar as CFO and Kevin Weil as Chief Product Officer. Sarah Friar had recently been CEO of $KIND, and before that was a highly respected CFO of $SQ from 2012 to 2018. This stock is a little choppy, but is a forerunner for AI with backing from $MSFT. Long profitable position for me.

Generalized intelligence that can replace actual job role is not far from movie (think about JARVIS in Iron-man movies, or the computer in Star-ship Enterprise). As expected, we are seeing some selling across the board this morning as traders book profits that they were loath to take last week for tax reasons. The precise timing of this selling pressure was uncertain, but the selling was inevitable.

- kenb: @henrik511 $AI appears to be some profit taking after the run-up since late Oct on low volume. Stock is also just above the 50d MVA and looking to add a few shares if it can hold and close above that level. Analyst predictions for the start of the new year are all over the place and no one can predict what is going to happen over the long weekend and what traders and investors are going to do on tuesday, the first day of the new year. So playing pretty conservative and not taking on any major new risks.

It told me I bought the stock but it wouldn't let me write a Call against it or even sell the stock.
