  • Aragorn: $AGIO biotech disaster du jour ala woodman down 19% Agios Pharmaceuticals Inc. AGIO, +5.33% shares fell after the drug developer said it is no longer pursuing a second drug candidate to treat a rare form of anemia. Agios shares dropped 19% to $45.55 after hours. The company said it will no longer develop the AG-519 treatment for pyruvate kinase deficiency, an inherited condition where gene mutations from each parent cause an accelerated destruction of red blood cells, after the Food and Drug Administration put a clinical study of the drug on hold. Agios said the decision does not affect the development of another drug candidate, AG-348, for the condition.

Also $CLLS which may be on the verge of busting through the 200 day on 20 day support. Of course there are the crowd favorites too: $JUNO $KITE $BLUE . And don't forget $CNCR - the cancer immunotherapy ETF which holds a number of such stocks.

  • woodman: @lblount79 $JUNO - It looks like a biotech-wide thing if not merely an ASH2015/CAR-T/genetherapy/immunotherapy-wide thing today. $BLUE is the worst of the CART/gene stocks, but look at $ZIOP $CLLS $BLCM $XON $AGIO, and so forth. Of the roughly 30 CART/genetherapy-editing on my watch list, only 4 are green (one barely). But then look at the biotech etfs generally. With $XBI (smaller biotech weighted), only 9 out of 101 are green; and for larger biotech weighted with $IBB, only 15 out of 143 are green. So, it's universal today.

    Companies like $JUNO, $CURE, $KITE, $CLLS, $BLCM, $AGIO, $ONCE etc... could be just as successful OR not at all.... so I say it is too early for big positions in these.....
  • Forexpro: @dkoran, $AGIO Hi, Dkoran, I know nothing about the company, except that it got good news from the FDA yesterday. The chart looks great, if you already own it, but it looks pretty extended in terms of both price and indicators. Something around 112 strikes me as a decent spot for an initial entry. Implied vol is at the extreme low end of its 52-week range, but still pretty attractive in absolute terms (60ish percent); a Jun 110 put can be sold for 5.10 at the moment. Spreads on these are wide (5.10/5.90), unfortunately, making an untimely exit potentially awkward. Perhaps one of our biotech experts will weigh in on the company's fundamental charms.   • dkoran: @Forexpro $AGIO-I bought some yesterday on the Fast track news and chart set up. I would have thought the stock would have gotten a bigger pop. Looking for it to test recent highs at some point based on recent beat on earnings and revenue growth and now the fast track news.

  • traderbren: $AGIO - Agios Pharmaceuticals(AGIO) drops in Wednesday trading after a downgrade to Neutral from Buy at Citigroup. The firm did raise its price target on shares to $137 from $93. In its note, Citi analysts said, "we are raising our AGIO target price to $137 based on recent positive data and our model update following Celgene's in-licensing AG-120. But while we are constructive on AGIO's technology, management, and partnership with Celgene, the valuation does not leave ample room relative to our rating system. Hence, we are downgrading to Neutral."

  • woodman: @moneyHoHo The only biotechs I sold are the Car-T/gene therapy/gene editing stocks. Some were stops. Some I just let go. I sold $JUNO last week, $KITE yesterday, and $AGIO and $BLUE both stopped on me today. But other biotechs that I own I've had for a fairly long time and plan on continuing to hold for a long time (hopefully...)- such as $ISIS, $ACAD, $CLVS and $CEMP, where I am comfortable with my entry and add prices, I'm giving them more leeway.
