  • Pokersmith: #options Aflac ($AFL) option volume 44x normal after large spread rolls position. Shares of the insurance company are little changed today near $53.54 following a large spread on NYSE-Arca where the May 40/50 risk reversal traded against the August 40/57.5 risk reversal 18900x. Net premium was a debit of $3.64, or $6.8M, which opens a protective collar in August using the 25% downside and 7% upside strikes, while the May 40/50 appears to close a position opened in February in a roll from November when shares were nearly $6 below current levels

  • HumanGeorge: $AFL Closed out my $AFL short via puts for a very nice gain. I will look to re-enter the trade if further weakness persists. Regarding #shorting, you have to take your short profits into weakness, just like you take your profits on a long into strength.
  • snapper: Hi Human @George, Covered my short in $AFL Wanted to stay in,but when happy sell. @Snapper
  • HumanGeorge: $AFL

Anatomy of a short...so i posted a few days ago about how I thought $AFL for various fundamental reasons was a short. As I suspected $AFL would encounter heavy resistance if it tried to rally.

After the big gap down $AFL traded down to 49. ...
  • rfbodie: $AFL - Human, I'll go short if it drops below the March intraday low of 48 even. Thanks for the analysis.
  • snapper: Hi Humaan @George, I just shorted $AFL stay tune @Snapper
  • HumanGeorge: $AFL I have a little bit of a head start on the $AFL short than you, so please be careful. If $AFL moves back above 50, watch your short. If we get a move above today's intraday high (50.50), then I would think about abandoning ship. Any move above yesterdays high of 51 makes the short trade null and void in my opinion. Those are my levels: 50, 50.50, 51 May the short be with you...
  • HumanGeorge: $AFL Alright...I'm liking this $AFL short! AFFFLLLAAACCCC
  • HumanGeorge: $AFL - Good Morning Community

I had a good idea based on some theories @Dan has mentioned from time to time. A couple of things just came together to make me think $AFL might present a nice #shorting opportunity.

Lately I've had some good luck ...
  • joanie: Hi @George You might want to edit your post and write two posts: the first as the opening post of the day saying 'good morning' or whatever, and then copy and paste and do a second post with $AFL as your topic. The way it stands now any responses to your post will show up as new posts throughout the day and there won't be an $AFL thread because all posts of the day will come under your opening post. That's the glitch in having a topic as the opening post. Joanie
  • kappy12: $AFL - To pick up on @HumanGeorge's idea of #shorting $AFL Aflac target lowered to $64 from $69 at $FBR Capital $FBR lowered its estimates and price target for Aflac following the company's analyst day to reflect management's more conservative approach to earnings growth and share buybacks. However, the firm finds the risk/reward on shares attractive and maintains an Outperform rating.
  • shredex3: $AFL - somebody must have said something bad wrong on the analysis meeting conference call, down 2.35 before the bell
  • karkn: 7-10 day rule stocks $AFL this one got pummeled after the Japan disaster due to possible insurance liabilities. Buyers stepped in each day on the way down. After bottoming, ran up through the 50 ema and now has drifted back down to test it. Close to support but stochastics are not where I'd like to see them. $JAH close to support; stochastics turning up $HSY nice chart and buyers have shown themselves already. Earnings were Apr 26th. Not sure I'll take any action tomorrow but will be having a look to see how these behave.
  • shredex3: $AFL - Flag????? http://fsc.bz/DZW
  • torunto: $AFL - the stock is @ resistance from the March 11th Earthquake...it will be interesting to see how the market decides to price this... if it goes up to test the 4/28/11 brk.out top (which is also the 3/10/11 gap down....therefore resistance) or down to test the 4/28/11 gap ($54)...both gaps are resistance and support respectively. I look at the pattern as a symmetrical Triangle...50/50 chance either way...I'd wait to see if $54.95 holds
  • shredex3: $AFL - Coming out of a VS off good earnings, watch it. $SRCL - looks like I will be starting a position after the earnings pullback and $CMG - looks like a good starting point...Any thoughts very much appreciated, it may save me some money.
  • shredex3: $AFL - watch the retest on AFL
  • shredex3: $AFL - Aflac took a big hit during the earthquake news, now rebounding nicely, worth a look to ride up. Full disclosure, call #options May11 and Jan12 calls
  • shredex3: $AFL - I couldn't help it, I bought some Jan12 $AFL calls, some Jun11 $DO calls and added to my overweight position on AEZS. I recommend looking into AEZS.
  • CallaLilly: Twitter traders ... noticing a few positioning to begin in $POT, $IPI etc. $AFL - Aflac down 3% or so, insured quite a lot in Japan.
  • Arie: $AFL - Playing the short side with APR $50 puts.
  • rams345: $AFL In my opinion, living here in Columbus, GA., the home of AFLAC, the best money maker would be to write naked $50 or $55 puts for April or farther out. I am writing the April $55 puts. FYI. This is a very strong and well managed company.
  • shredex3: $AFL - I agree, I am also waiting for $SNV to sell out or merge. I have a business in Columbus but live in Albany, GA. Good to see another local on here.
  • shredex3: $AFL - check out the @zig-zap pattern on the 3 month chart, time to get you some.
  • shredex3: $AFL - been long for a long time, overloaded on call #options right now, working out right now. I have it going to 60.50 before a pullback, will sell out of the calls and write covered call on my common
