  • Ajax4Hire: Yes, I have seen/heard several reports that automakers are having to reduce production due to IC shortages. Auto Electronics tends to be less cutting-edge, more legacy/long-term. But, if automakers having problems then others should as well. IC Fabrication companies(IC foundry) should benefit from the shortage, companies like: $TSM, $ASML, $AMAT, $LRCX, $KLAC and $UCTT and Companies that supply longer-life ICs, like: $TXN, $NXPI, $MSI, $MCHP, $SWKS(maybe), $QRVO, $TER, $ON Also, $TXN, $INTC, $MU, $QRVO, $MCHP own their IC foundry and can take advantage of the shortage. Don't think that 8.30 is significant other than that's when the buyers took their foot off the gas. I think round numbers, like 8, 9, 10 are more meaningful. • Greendayguy: @activetrader1 Sounds like a good strategy to me. The daily 6 month chart has lot of nice ups and downs. • activetrader1: @Greendayguy $MCHP $CY $ON $SMH I have followed a similar pattern in the semis using STM. Overall they have strong revenue growth, low PE comparatively, good price range. It takes a dip to 21-22 and then bounces up to 25ish. Good range on a $20 or so stock. It still has risks like all single stocks have like revenue surprises, Apple news since they are a supplier, analyst reviews, etc so I have gravitated to SCHX where I I don’t have to worry about these factors much because of the large diversification.
  • Greendayguy: @bRobert $HIIQ Agree. I've taken some hits but hopefully I'm learning and getting better. I never try to manage more than 8 stocks at a time, and I think I'm going to reduce that number, maybe concentrate on 3 - 5. What are your thoughts on startin ...

  • Bridget: $MCHP is seeing a bounce today at the 50dMA
  • issues: @Bridget $OIH That makes sense to me. Do you have as a rule not to buy break outs, just pull backs? Or is that just this etf? or just for this season/time of a high market? The reason I'm asking is yesterday I bought $MCHP with the alert to buy on break outs. But that was a wrong move now I see.
  • Bridget: @issues $OIH $MCHP That is tough to say, I don't have a hard rule. But I have found that buying on the breakout of a broken down stock is less likely to work in my favor then buying a breakout that is at new highs. Making a rule that you always wait for the pullback is hard to do cause sometimes the pullback happens really fast and you miss it. And sometimes it never pulls back. So you have to accept that sometimes it just isn't going to work. So I try to buy as close to the breakout point as I can to reduce my risk. If I miss it, I miss it. There are still plenty of opportunities out there.
  • issues: @grcjr $MCHP Thanks for the good advice.
  • issues: @Bridget $OIH $MCHP Would you say MCHP is broken? It appears to be on the come back trail, don't ya thunk? I was glad to sell $AAOI yesterday when you wrote that it was "done". But today I am thinking this may not be "done" yet. I see continued interest and am considering buying a small position back. What do you think?
  • Bridget: @issues $OIH $MCHP $AAOI I don't think you can make a call on $MCHP. The overall trend is still intact and it is near its 50dMA but that could quickly change. A break below $78 would be very telling. You could definitely get back into $AAOI with a small position. It is consolidating here and you could see another run higher into earnings. But I would keep it on a tight leash. The stock has been seeing some higher volume selling the last 2 days. I would perhaps wait till you see some higher volume buying on the intra day. And I would definitely wait till Monday to make a move at this point.

  • issues: I'm even with a small position in $MCHP. Was trying to decide what to do. Just then! Yea? What? Just then, Dan Fitz emailed me with an alert on MCHP from way back in June. It said BUY! So I did! Hurray! It's like hearing Dan from the past whisper in my ear, "buy you dope..." Got it! Thanks Dan. That's what we pay ya fer! Also that's to Bridget who wrote about $AAOI and $YRD "That trades OVER!" Alright. I hear ya. I sold both for $2 grand profit. Thanks!
