Sign in here.- maracom: Pulling apart the top 10 components of the $GDX that are tradable in the US, the best performers that are approaching all time highs are: $FNV $WPM $GFI. The large miners $NEM and $GOLD are lagging compared to the midcap miners. The other midcap miners that are still playing catchup are: $PAAS $NCMGY $AU. $PAAS is also the largest holding in $GDXJ. The first three are too hot for me to handle right now, all greater than 25% away from the 50sma, but if the #gold move is real $NEM and $GOLD still have plenty of room to catch up. I'm selling a cash secured Apr $50 put to #wheel $NEM, and I'm taking a small starter in $GOLD as a mental health buy. Will watch the leaders for signs of a pullback to add.
- vitoB: Hello hello. Spent some time lookin at mining stocks after the Friday pop. List includes, $GDXJ $FNV $WPM $AG $AU $GFI $KGC $ $GOLD $NEM… Chart with the longest base and best close on Fri seemed to be $AG. $WPM second, and $GFI had a huge move but actually didn’t close very nice, a move above Fri high for this one to me. And actually $GDXJ looked better than most of the large holding charts oddly enough. Any one else ?
- vitoB: @vitoB $SNAP also $UGL feels great...miners would have felt better. $GFI $AU $SAND all big winners. im in $UGL until next week....also $QID as a hedge on the $SNAP trade
- vitoB: Looking at the miners, as the 'store of value, inflation hedge' stops on BTC. Gold might continue its bid here. Gold is down now but miners were green on Friday. $SAND $GOLD $AU $AEM $GFI. ,$NEM. $SAND is my favorite of the group.

- Explorer: @DAN -- $AU $NEM -- ?thoughts on new entry off 50DMA?
-
DAN: @Explorer $AU $NEM I can discuss in today's video...but here's my take: You have two ways to "lose."
You can lose money, or time.
The Y-axis on the chart is money. The stock goes down and you lose money.
The X-axis on the chart is time. ... - mopick: @DAN $AU $NEM $GOLD $GLD, as Minervini said the other day, "Three directions a stock can go; up, down, or sideways. If the stock is not gong up it is either costing you money or costing you time. Never fall in love with a stock. All stocks are bad unless they're going up."

- scottto_2: I remain on the hunt for low risk entries. I screened for stocks that, in spite of the overall market flush, had a higher low versus yesterday. - bullmoose: Miners: MVD and $NGD are nice, as EleKtra pointed out. AZK is at a nice buy point too. As is $MHR, which is just breaking out of a #squeeze. I also bought $AG today and own SSRI. Take a look at $PZG, which is at a decent buy point, and UXG. I'm also interested in $VGZ, $AU and $NAK too. The point is, don't sit around and sit on $NG waiting for it to move. There are too many others that $ARE moving! I've been there, done that with NG.
- bullmoose: $NG - Here's my take on NG. I bought and sold it a couple times over the last few months. Altogether, I made nothing on it. At the same time, miners like $AU, AZK, $GG, $NAK, $VGZ, $CDE, $SSRI, $SLW and countless others have had huge moves. The net of it all is that $NG was a waste of time and money. Also, be aware that we have had a nice slump in the market, which is usually a boost for the metals and miners. When the market picks back up, you can expect the miners to consolidate. I will be looking for entries in the above stocks when they pull back to support...or it catches up to them. The only one I hold now is $SSRI, though I did trim it today on the earnings pop. I really wish I would have noticed $VGZ four days ago.

- bullmoose: $AEM (plus $AU and NG) - After reporting earnings and getting dinged on energy and equipment costs, $AEM is holding at the 50-day, which also coincides with the uptrend line. I trimmed going into earnings and will look to buy back if it bounces from this level. Low risk entry with a stop under today's low on new shares. I'm keeping stops a bit lower on additional shares (under the 20-day and 200-day). In the long run, I think miners have a ways to run and $AEM is just coming off the 200-day at the end of January. I'm also long $NG calls and common heading into earnings (it reports on the 28th), and really like $AU as well. $AU reported today. It eliminated its hedges and forecast strong growth. The stock initially traded down on the earnings but has rebounded nicely.

Does this mean we need to put more faith in the Chinese economy to be the Global engine to drive growth going forward ? Took a small position in $AU today expecting the dollar to weaken further in the upcoming days, weeks.
- JimMac: @Headscratcher - Okay. Palms aside. What is your take on AU. Stopped shy of the 45. mark. Strong underlying technicals. . Thesis is the dollar stays weak $AU pushes past recent 9/17 high. Next stop high of 1/14/2008 of 51. ish. Short term target.
- jng369: PCU My last post before the open... PCU just broke out the high. Also, it is in a vol #squeeze right now.... So, my play for today would be probably to add PCU, $AU, $PAY, BUCY ... And take profits for some of the names that I bot before.. if it shows any weakness
- tmjska: @Jimmy - $AUY has been uptrending since May 1, initially supported by the 10dma and around mid-May become much stronger and would not touch the 10dma. 10dma support has not been violated but $AUY is still in a bull mode. The 20sma could offer some su ...
- Gabe: Slow consolidation day. Went to the local Lowe's to get some things, it's nearly empty. Not a good sign. Not feeling the urge to enter trades before the close. $AU, $EGO, $IAG, $GFI near possible entry points, but I'd like to see them hold the support first, so I'm waiting. New low in $SKF, but not a new high in XLF. Not the first time that I notice that the ultras tend to "overshoot" to hit the stops. A bit suspicious, isn't it? All this tells me is that I better stick with the regular $ETF even when going short. Have a good weekend!

Am I worried this rally is a fakout? Absolutely. I'm 100% convinced that there will be hundreds of disappointments. That commercial real estate will cause many #REITs to go belly-up. That banks will need more bailout money. That many semis will in t ... - Gabe: We are getting the pullback in gold (GLD) and @silver (SLV). Stops got hit as they've broken the 50DMA, but dip buyers stepped in, and now both seem to be recovering. Potential entry here with a tight stop. It's the close that will give us the real clue on whether the trend breaks or not. Selling comes on low volume, and the March 18 breakout day still seems relevant to both. Alan Farley mentioned $AU as a nice chart in the past few days, and I concur. $GDX also looks nice.
- Suzie: Russ, On the subject of why $GDX performs differently GLD: $GLD holds 33,802,801 ounces of gold. $GDX is a compilation of equities the two largest holdings being $ABX and G.TO (Goldcorp). That makes $GLD a purer play vs. $GDX as there are no other fundamental factors affecting the price. $GLD simply moves with the price of gold. $GDX has to worry about what's going on with $ABX (they just had a 4Q loss announced on Friday). The top 10 holdings of $GDX are: $AU, $ABX, $GFI, G.TO (GG), $HMY, K.TO (KGC), LIHR, $NEM, and GOLD. Here is my take on the $AUY chart: http://tinyurl.com/anmd8g
- milt: Gold miner earnings next week. I'm hoping for some big pullbacks, so I can get better entries and build positions. Right now the positions are puny. $AU reported this week and it popped. So for right now its just a hope that they pullback on reports. Thing is energy is a huge cost for them and so they should be making lots of money. Whereas last year they energy costs killed them and their profits were nothing to get excited about. Lastly, mining is a tough business. So what Wall Street deadfish will call an earnings miss, is just part of doing business. I like all the companies below will look to buy on earnings related stock weakness. $NEM, $GG, $KGC, $AEM, $GSS, $ABX, and $PAAS report next week.

Until @Dan mentioned it, I had not realized that diggers sensibly use hedging strategies to stabilize sales. That probably makes profits more steady and the stock price less volatile. However, I wonder if the perfect storm has caused the hedging t ... - Ian: Gold Gold stocks up today # see TeleChart's MG135 average for the sector. AUUK, $ABX, $GG, $NEM, $KGC, $AU are the biggest players by capitalization. Anybody know what is driving the jump? @Ian
- Suzie: Ocean: How much of this gold rally do you think can be attributed to short covering? I mean Gartman has been pounding the table to stay away from gold or short it for months... Call activity picked up on $AU well over a week ago, $GLD followed Thursday/Friday with big transactions on out of the money calls so it was evident a rally was coming but I never thought it would be to this extent. Its a beautiful thing!

I think it will give readers a better sense for the context of their views. 2. $AU, not sure where this guy has come from but outside of stating mere opinion as fact, there is not much rigor to his commentary. 3. Get @Dan a blog. Hmmm, not quite sure about that one on second thoughts. Not sure what it'd do to our great community here. fear of dilution. 4. Farley is good and should have a greater play. These are first thoughts. @Emma
