Yes, when you close down a spread you are doing exactly that… buying back the leg your are short and selling the leg you are long. Many platforms allow you to do that in one step as well, so be sure to check out what features are available on your platform as well (to simplify this).

Buy the “sell” back to close and sell the “buy” to close, etc?
