No system is perfect... but I've found that finding a process that matches up with what the majority / herd of seasoned traders stay within, is what you can depend on most. Finding that process is the key. The sad part is that it usually takes a lifetime to figure that stuff out! I've been trading for around 20 years now... and still feel like an idiot at times. Good luck... all the best...
  • bigbartabs: @oldtimer $FLR $RUTAX $UNG $XLE ... @oldtimer ... Of those pairs that I tend to track $UNG/$BOIL $XLV/$CURE, $ITA/$DFEN, $XLRE/$DRN, $XLI/$DUSL, $XLE/$ERX, $XLF/$FAS, $FNGS/$FNGU, $XOP/$GUSH, $XBI/$LABU, $ITB/$NAIL, $GDX/$NUGT, $XRT/$RETL, $SMH/$SOXL, $XLK/$TECL, $XLY/$WANT ... only $XLE $XOP are close to being above the 8dema. Also, $UNG is tough, since it doesn't correlate well with 3x $BOIL I always track the 4 index pairs... $DJI/$UDOW, $SPX/$SPXL, $NDX/$TQQQ, $RUT/$TNA... of which none are even close to the 8dema. The only one that could be worth starting a position is $DJI, that bounced off of the 200dma. All the best...
  • scottrades: $XLY Looking good, in trend.
  • DrScience: #Markets $SPY $SPX The /ES (E-Mini Futures) made a 35-point run this morning, mostly on the strength of NASDAQ stocks in $XLK, $XLY, and $XLC sectors. Without $XLV and $XLF participation, Mr. Market tried to test the bears resolve, but backed away 7 ...
  • DavidK: @DrScience $SPY $SPX $XLK $XLY $XLC $XLV $XLF #Markets well , I am short $QQQ , $IWM and $NVDA. I sold my calls on $ NVDA at the close yesterday . Should have waited as CEO was on CNBC pumping his stock yesterday . Had to add as I got it a little early . Big boys are setting up small fires for the slaughter .
  • champ: @DavidK $SPY $SPX $XLK $XLY $XLC $XLV $XLF $QQQ $IWM $NVDA #Markets.....Yes and everything we do is about #timings, both In and Out.....and thats Exactly why I'm here and also Why I'm on other websites.....because I work all of my Entries and Exits off of timings, off of #News. ....The better my on-time News-info is, the better my profits are. And IMO, as aways, Traders are at Work...... ....and I'm seeing #positive-News-flow for the Markets.......however Traders are always going to zig-zag the markets, always, over and over. So for Now, opportunities will keep popping-up and so will the zig-zags. IMO.
  • DavidK: @champ $SPY $SPX $XLK $XLY $XLC $XLV $XLF $QQQ $IWM $NVDA #Markets #timings #News #positive-News-flow sounds like what I try to do . I didn’t do my homework on NVDA ceo on yesterday . I am usually better than that . Markets are being juiced upwards . Be very nimble . When it falls it happens fast . Commercial real estate / banks exposure being overlooked . It’s gonna be ugly just not sure how much longer they can keep pushing this into the future .
  • bigbartabs: @DavidK $SPY $SPX $XLK $XLY $XLC $XLV $XLF $QQQ $IWM $NVDA #Markets #timings #News #positive-News-flow ... same with $TQQQ... I've been building a position since 5/12. now a big one. This has been a heckuva run.

  • woodman: @debeers $TECK - It's in a good group. $XME has been the 4th best performer over the last month in my watchlist of ~60 broad sectors, indexes, industry areas (including bond and stock funds). In order over the last month: $UNG $TAN $XRT $XME $XLY.

The market is continuing is still trying to make up its mind. It is currently trading under my /ES support level of 4101. Looks like we will test last weeks lows of 4071.50. I am very wary of this market as it has no real direction. It continues to ...
  • DrScience: @bigbartabs $SPX The S&P Sector weightings show that $XLK represents 27.2% of the S&P 500, and along with $XLV, and $XLY make up over 50%. When those three sectors are in sync, they can really move the overall market -- up OR down! See sector weightings at: https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/indices/equity/sp-500/#data
  • bigbartabs: @DrScience $SPX $XLK $XLV $XLY #data ... yep. I keep hoping that the SP500 managers will calm down the amount of tech tickers. It has made the SP500 index pretty tuff for non-traders to park their retirement accounts, for historic growth rates, trends, and returns.
  • DrScience: #Markets $SPY I'd like to see a move out of a Volatility Squeeze on 15-min chart above 455 to continue higher to retest 457. $XLK $XLC $XLY getting the love today; not so much for everything else.... Need some more participation from the other sectors.
  • DrScience: $XLE in second place behind $XLY, but they're not buyin' $XLE, they're buying $XLY. Also, $XLF moving up on the outside.

  • Ajax4Hire: @Forexpro Thanks for the Analysis. Peter Zeihan(GeoPolitical Analyst) suggest over the next 3-10years, Europe future is un-sustainable; expects poor economy performance. For that and other reasons, I avoid all Europe investments. I am not keen on Consumer Durables($XLY) either. (Problem with $XLY, dominated by $TSLA,$AMZN) In fact, almost everything scares me now. Only thing that looks appetizing is $XHB, homebuilders. Ahhhh, Herbie, The 1963 Volkswagon Beetle. Herbie, The Love Bug is the 1st movie I saw in an "inside" theater during the day. Still remember the dissonance coming out of a dark theater into bright daylight. (Before then, it was Drive-Ins at nite. Growing up poor in the south, Drive-Ins were a weekend staple.)
  • BocaRick: $IBB $XLY both just hit a ATH
  • bRobert: @BocaRick $IBB $XLY C&H breakout WEEKLY IBB $200+
  • HillB: $RTH $XLY Boring way to play the retail trade, but both are poised to close to clearing resistance and for a move higher even with $AMZN underperforming. $XRT is leader, but too extended for me here. I own $DG, $TGT, $SBUX, and $COST but want more exposure through year end via ETF sector moves.
  • Ajax4Hire: @Forexpro $INDA $EWY $XLY $XLP $XOM Wow, StateStreet is very good on analysis. All four(4): $INDA-India sub-continent $EWY-South Korea $XLY-Consumer Discretionary $XLP-Consumer Staples performing exceptional. S.Korea($EWY) especially so.
  • Forexpro: @Ajax4Hire $INDA $EWY $XLY $XLP $XOM Hey, Ajax4Hire, Here's hoping that you're doing well. Actually, the SSGM folks don't analyze, for the most part; they count, and do statistics. They have a very good idea of institutional positioning in absolute terms and relative to benchmarks; it's up to the recipients of their work to figure out what that means in terms of likely responses to new information. At the moment, momentum is pretty powerful, so what has been working is expected to keep doing so. FWIW; it's been more than a decade now since I was intimately involved, but I don't get the sense that more than a few nuances have changed in the intervening years. Take care, and all the best!
  • Ajax4Hire: @Forexpro Very Helpful. Much thanks for the analysis. $INDA - India ETF; to take advantage of 1month,1week flow into India; $EWY - South Korea(there is no North Korea ETF :) $XLY - Consumer Discretionary: nonessential (elastic) goods and services; including retail, leisure and entertainment, media, and automotive industries. $XLP - Consumer Staples: essential (inelastic) goods and services. including food, beverages, tobacco, and household and personal products. (tobacco is essential? to some) I recently established a "full" position in $XOM-Exxon/Mobile Primarily for the dividend(10.5%APR) and multi-year lo. I cannot find a good ETF for European Health Care and European Medical Equipment. As always, very useful, good insight into what the investment houses are doing.
  • SlimChance: @Ajax4Hire $FCX $XME $XLB $XHB $XLP $XLF $XRT $XLY I've seen opinions from Fidelity tech staff suggesting we are in for a long term secular bull market, based on fiscal policy and spending. These sectors seem to support that thesis?
  • Ajax4Hire: @SlimChance $FCX surprised at $XME-Mining,Metal, $XLB-Materials strength into what has been news reported as a weakening economy. Same for $XHB-Home Builders. If US Economy IS teetering on collapse, then why is materials/construction so solid? A true strong downtrend would be marked by run to $XLP-"Staples/Necessary for life" and $XLF-Banks and away from: $XRT-Retail; $XLY-Consumer Discetionary, $XME, $XHB, $XLB. I see the opposite. boom-gloom-and-doom news is wrong. Wrong, strong word I rarely use. The 1st person you must trust is yourself. For if you do not trust yourself, no one else will and you will always be unsure of your future.
  • Ajax4Hire: @Forexpro Looking at "Figure 3. Strong outflow from US Discretionary stocks" US Discretionary stocks are: $XLY=$AMZN, $HD, $MCD, $NKE, $LOW, $SUBX Staples mild inflows: $XLP=$WMT, $PG, $KO, $COST, $CVS, $PM, $BUD (although, I personally do not consider $BUD,$PM, cigarettes&beer a staple ;( Wanted to put a face on "Discretionary" and "Staples" stocks. Thanks for the analysis, I will investigate. @Forexpro wrote: ""US. Both Staples and Discretionary have outperformed this year but the sector performance masks a wide divergence at the industry group level. Broad sector flows are shifting now with Discretionary now seeing the large outflows while Staples is seeing mild inflows (Figure 3)."

  • TopCat1000: @DAN $RCL $PLAY $NCLH $CCL $UAL $AAL Yep these aren't my trade either too risky and would only be a day trade if I did participate, but I do keep track of them to see how money is rotating in and out of these sectors. Part of my weekend routing is to keep track of the 11 sectors on a weekly, monthly, 3 month, 6 month and yearly basis. Then I track the top industries on a weekly basis. I still like buying top industries in $XLK, $XLY, and $XLV. for the industries in $XLK I like $DJUSSC, $DJUSSW, and $DJUSCR. For $XLY I like buying top tocks in $DJUSTY, $DJUSRS, $DJUSRB, and DJUSHB. For the $XLY sector I buy top stocks in $DHUSBT and $DJUSAM.
  • champ: @Priyae123 ---- Interesting question, it is all about #timing and the investors/traders time frame. It was $XLK $XLY and the $SPY. • DrScience: $XLY bouncing here along with the rest of the market. I don't think the consumer is going to stop buying, especially with Spring planting season for home gardners, and the Summer driving season coming into view. I'm interested in getting into the stock on an even bigger pullback, but willing to take a small position here.. Sell the MAR 120/122 BuPS @ .50, or better credit. If stock is put to you, i.e. the short put is exercised in the next 24 days, then you'd have a long stock position with a cost basis at the 200 DMA.

  • champ: @Forexpro ---- So far YTD, the $XLE, sector is in third place, with the $XLC and $XLI right next to it. The $XLK, sector is in 1st place and I have a $AAPL position and the $XLY sector is in 2nd but stocks in the $XLE, certain names are outperforming and the sector might over take the other 2-sectors real soon. I'm in the sector with names and i'm currently holding 11 positions off of or around their lows, also in the energy sector. Need to be in sectors before they start their turn. I took profits on a few positions already that were up around 60 -90%. The sector could continue this move. The news flow is positive, for now. I'm just sayin..Im working the winners in these sectors. Good Luck!

  • champ: @Hans_Schultz1 $AAPL $AMZN $GOOGL $FB $NFLX $SPY $FXI $XRT $XLY ---- Post are stock ideas, always need to asked....if the posters doesn't say he or she has a position. It is nice to see what others are looking at but at some point you have to narrow it down, to only a few targets to look at. Looking at 100's of stock ideas can be confusing for some but not for others. The best way is....to pick a stock after you do your research and after all the filtering is over...and then asked questions, about your stock idea....and stock and market timing for entry. Always need to have timing, you can be a great stock-picker but then the only thing that really counts.... is #Timing.
