  • ReneeH: @scottrades remember we talked $TLT, been watching, +3% in a week, notable or nah?
  • scottrades: @ReneeH $TLT Could be. If the economy is slowing faster than expected, this could rip. Most people I've heard today think this is just summer blip. We'll see...
  • ReneeH: @scottrades $TLT thank you.
  • ReneeH: @scottrades $TLT would you trade it? Rip caught my eye.
  • scottrades: @ReneeH $TLT It's possible. Honestly my main focus is on Crypto, so I've been playing in that arena mostly.
  • TraderGeekSam: @scottrades $TLT Slowing faster? That makes my brain hurt! :-)
  • ReneeH: @scottrades $TLT i'm a natural multi-tasker :) female thing I believe.
  • scottrades: @ReneeH $TLT Congrats! I am a uni-tasker. I do one thing great...and I just do that thing, until it stops working...lol
  • scottrades: ...
We're heading into a trickier time for equities between now and mid-October, so we'll need to watch market breadth closely. Focus on what’s working. We know $GLD, $SLV, $GDX, $ETHA, and $TLT have firmed up and are strong. It wouldn’t be ...
  • ReneeH: @scottrades watching $TLT here, curious to get your take? Getting the yips here on the general market peeterin' out
  • ReneeH: @ReneeH $TLT fwiw I'm pretty well hedged in my LT holdings, contemplating a little contrarian hedge with market puts.
  • Dig44north: @ReneeH $TLT $SQQQ opened the Oct 18/21 BuCs. Very liquid
  • ReneeH: @Dig44north $TLT $SQQQ thanks for sharing. I like the simple approach straight up longer dated calls/puts....this $TLT might be a "thing" we'll know soon.
  • scottrades: $TLT trying to get above the 200 Day
  • ReneeH: @scottrades $TLT isn't that typically bearish markets?
  • scottrades: @ReneeH $TLT While TLT isn't surging right now, any significant upward move would likely be interpreted as bearish for stocks.
  • ReneeH: @scottrades $TLT thank you for validating!
  • DrScience: @scottrades $TLT Are you sure that's not the 100 DMA. I show 200 DMA at 88.30
  • DrScience: @ReneeH $TLT is a blend of 20-to-30-year bonds. The bond-market thinking is that rates at the long end of the curve will be mostly unaffected by any reduction in short-term interest rates vis-a-vis a FOMC rate cut in September, and/or October, Decemb ...
  • bigreek42: rates going up $tlt iwm getting hit
  • woodman: @bigreek42 $tlt - whacking housing.
  • bigreek42: @woodman $tlt big time
  • Bert953: $TLT 20 yr bonds down again
  • marklesparkle: $TLT If the jobs report is bad do the bonds go up or down in a normal scenario mostly. Better question is which way should they go common sense wise if its bad
  • mopick: @marklesparkle $TLT, weak jobs report, bonds should go up!
  • marklesparkle: @mopick $TLT Thank you @mopick
  • bigreek42: maybe $tlt ready for a bounce
  • bigreek42: tough to get aggressive with $tlt action
  • woodman: @bigreek42 $tlt - I hear you. I was heavy stocks in the trading account, but sold a bunch yesterday. Mixed back on up vs. down among what I sold. Probably evens out. I'm at about 50% cash right now in the trading account. I'm scanning stocks, but it feels a little uncertain right now, so I'm guarding against being too aggressive.
  • bigreek42: @woodman $tlt also very cash heavy in trading acct. Grabbed $bros and $rddt today tho tight leash
  • vitoB: Last 15 min have clearly reacted to lows of $TLT for the year imo. Sidelines for me. $TZA hod
  • bigreek42: rates moving up everyday lately $tlt
  • marklesparkle: $TLT Can someone tell me the "Why" of why interest rate yields have risen so much on this, please
  • DavidG: @marklesparkle $TLT Investors lightening up on treasuries as they go risk-on in equities which have been strong for last couple weeks.
  • marklesparkle: @DavidG $TLT very good thanks @DavidG
  • bigreek42: crazy move down on $tlt the past few days
  • woodman: @bigreek42 $tlt - Crashes abound.
  • bigreek42: @woodman $tlt opposite of Trump's goal with rates. Kind of scary
  • woodman: @bigreek42 $tlt - Yes. Some have posited that the Administration's goal is to crash stocks to bring down long term interest rates. I don't know if that's true, but if that is the strategy, it would appear, at least so far, that it's crashing both the stock market and the bond market. But this is not my bailiwick.
  • bigreek42: @woodman $tlt I feel that is the goal as they see it the only way to bring rates down. It worked at first but is currently backfiring in a big way
  • joelsg1: @woodman $tlt China and other pissed foreigners dumping US TBonds, can't blame them.
  • bigreek42: @joelsg1 $tlt you really can't. I gotta imagine there's some panic going on in the admin but who knows?
  • woodman: @joelsg1 $tlt There's also a fear that we were already in a recession, now made much worse by the tariffs. The feared result is a large loss in sales & income tax revenue, which would bring about a wave of muni bond defaults. I don't know the various permutations and possible consequences of this stuff, but it doesn't sound good.
  • marklesparkle: @woodman #Day Im completely out except for my $TLT which I've had for awhile. It's music day and feels kind of good not to think about much. I like that guys voice but don;t like the groups name Five Finger Death Punch and the same with Nine Inch Nails. Schism by Tool now
  • woodman: @marklesparkle $TLT #Day - I'm at a loss for what to listen to this morning. Something uplifting....
  • marklesparkle: @woodman $TLT #Day Stevie Ray Vaughn rocks I love listening to rocking blues
  • kenb: @woodman $TLT #Day Kate Smith singing America the Beautiful. Or the Boston Pops Orchestra playing John Philip Sousa music.
  • marklesparkle: @woodman $TLT #Day Cheerfull how about dancing around your office lictening to Mary Poppins lol
  • woodman: @marklesparkle $TLT #Day - Not bad.
  • woodman: @marklesparkle $TLT #Day - Not quite. I went for Primus.
  • bigreek42: @scottrades long $tlt?
  • bigbartabs: @bigreek42 $tlt ... I was looking that earlier too.
  • TraderGeekSam: Over at OMM, we've been on the $JNJ $MRK $ADM staples plays in light of consumer staples strength. We've also been on the $TLT trade for weeks as well. Got OMM? Give us a try, learn to trade options, and make some dough too!
  • Cjauger: $TLT continues its downward path as bonds sell off.

Yields on 30-year Treasury bonds climbed sharply, gaining more than 40 basis points in December to close the year at 4.80%. That's the highest level in over a year, driven by concerns about rising ...
  • scottrades: @Cjauger $TLT They are fighting the fed...
  • bigreek42: $tlt near HOD
  • bigreek42: rates hurting market $tlt
  • woodman: $TLT - watching this area as potentially informative for equities. Tuesday's intraday low was $86.98. This is a double bottom area ($87.34 on 4/25). But if it doesn't hold, I wonder if that could bring on selling of equities.
  • traderbren: $TLT - back above the 50d & 200d
  • X802tp01: $TLT working and adding
  • X802tp01: $TLT currently 90.80 looks like a good risk reward on lower interest rates
  • bigreek42: are rates moving up going to halt this rally? $tlt
  • PhilHarmonic: @bigreek42 $tlt This rally will be very powerful. Only some Black Swan event will be able to stop it.
  • bigreek42: @PhilHarmonic $tlt hope you are right! Tho you wonder why rates have been moving up so much with fed tightening
  • PhilHarmonic: @bigreek42 $tlt Well, I can always change my mind. But when I have a real strong feeling I go with it. The stockmarket is always trying to drive you crazy.
  • bigreek42: @bigbartabs $TNX I've noticed that. Maybe $TLT good for a bounce back trade tho ugly chart
  • DrScience: $TLT has fallen to the main uptrend line. If bonds remain strong, we could see a retest of support at 87.34 and possibly see the low at 82.42. (The 20-year low at 82.20, is just below).

  • sierramp: @bigreek42 $tlt Have you looked into the $TBIL ?
  • bigreek42: @sierramp $tlt $TBIL 3 month T-bill? Chart looks odd if I'm looking at the right one. 10 Year note sold off after FED lowered rates which wasnt a surprise but this looks overdone at this point
  • sierramp: @bigreek42 $tlt $TBIL Dividends are paid monthly, compounded monthly which explains the chart action.

  • Douglas: $TLT I’ve been trying to learn more about bonds / interest rates in the last month. I’m just curious why $TLT is down over the last week when longer term yields are up over that same period. Is this because the bond market is pricing in greater than 150 basis point total cut from the fed Or Does $TLT tend to trade inversely to yields?
  • phgruver: @Douglas $TLT With bonds, the coupon (face value of the bond) trades inversely with the yield (interest rate.) This is because the yield is fixed, at the time the bond was issued, so changes in interest rates are accommodated by discounting the face value of the bond. (Treasury notes are bonds as well.)
  • phgruver: @phgruver $TLT sorry, I used "coupon" wrong. Let's just go with the face value of the bond.
  • scottrades: $TLT Green off the lows but needs a higher high
  • Douglas: @phgruver $TLT Thank you for the explanation.
  • Douglas: @phgruver $TLT To take this a step further then would you say that yields tend to be a leading indicator of bond prices or vice versa? Essentially which trend tends to be stronger- the trend of yields or the trend of bond prices?
  • phgruver: @Douglas $TLT From what I've seen, over the years, the bond traders are much smarter than the Fed. For them, yield is everything, so the bond market will anticipate rate changes long before the fed announces them. As price and yield move in lock step, though, it's hard to say which is more important.
  • bigreek42: $tlt continues moving down
  • DavidG: $TLT @Scotttrades - $TLT has pulled back to the 20d SMA. Does anyone see a possible entry or option play here?
  • scottrades: @DavidG $TLT Watch for a Green close above the 21 EMA. Sorry, I don't trade Options.

  • wineinquirer: $TLT Pulled back to breakout level, coinciding with the round number 100. Likely to remain here till the FOMC garbage is out of the way next Wed. Some consolidation up here wouldn't be a bad thing either. Sold out of a large profitable trade yesterday but on my radar screen to initiate for a long term entry next week as interest rates should continue to lower, albeit not in a straight line. Remember that the increase in rates spanned ~4yrs so give this trade some time. Just my thinkin' out loud!!
  • jeffrhen55: @wineinquirer $TLT Great guidance. I spent 30 years originating mortgages so watching the 10 year and bonds became a way of life for me with rate cycles and purchase/refi markets. Thanks!
