- maracom: @sagsworth $GLD Depends on your time frame. This is the third test of this level over the last couple of years and macro environment is great for gold to break out to higher levels. I hold physical gold instead of $GLD, but I'm bullish on precious metals and choose to play them short term with leveraged plays such as $GDX, $GDXJ, $SLV, and options. In the short term, it's probably a good idea to book some profits (I already booked profits and am pretty much out, and since I'm feeling a ton of FOMO right now that's probably a signal to sell), but $GLD is a slow mover so it's hard to make a high percentage short term trading $GLD. Another option to books some profits would be to go with covered calls if you have at least 100 shares.
- maracom: Pulling apart the top 10 components of the $GDX that are tradable in the US, the best performers that are approaching all time highs are: $FNV $WPM $GFI. The large miners $NEM and $GOLD are lagging compared to the midcap miners. The other midcap miners that are still playing catchup are: $PAAS $NCMGY $AU. $PAAS is also the largest holding in $GDXJ. The first three are too hot for me to handle right now, all greater than 25% away from the 50sma, but if the #gold move is real $NEM and $GOLD still have plenty of room to catch up. I'm selling a cash secured Apr $50 put to #wheel $NEM, and I'm taking a small starter in $GOLD as a mental health buy. Will watch the leaders for signs of a pullback to add.
- woodman: $LVS breakout - Besides LVS, I'm in very little other than a number of select biotech stocks. My non-biotech is LVS $NFLX (bought this morning) $ELF $GDXJ, and big pharma $MRK and $LLY

ELF is taking a well deserved and encouraging rest as it consolidates into the rising 50d which has almost caught up. I think ELF is preparing for another move higher soon. Maybe not this week, but soon. I continue to hold it. I have to check my notes but I think I bought it back in August. (Maybe earlier, I can't recall.)

$GLD -- This is working. Gold has traditionally been an inflation hedge. Hasn’t really worked that way over the last couple of years. But it’s moving higher and that’s all that matters.

- maracom: @manoli77 $PAAS I've owned PAAS in the past. It's about 1/10th the market cap of $NEM $FNV and 1/5 the size of something like $WMP. The smaller you get in the gold miners space the more volatile it can be based on operations. I owned them when they shut down one mining shaft due to a ventilation problem and the stock lost like 20% in two days. I do still have tiny positions (like 0.5% of my portfolio) in a smattering of small miners but that is pure speculation in hopes for an acquisition offer. My approach now is to go with individual miners if they offer a great dividend like $NEM, otherwise I prefer an index like $GDXJ to get additional leverage on small miners (as opposed to going with individual smaller operations). Or just stick with $SLV which is leading the precious metal complex anyways. Or $NUGT for short trades
- vitoB: Hello hello. Spent some time lookin at mining stocks after the Friday pop. List includes, $GDXJ $FNV $WPM $AG $AU $GFI $KGC $ $GOLD $NEM… Chart with the longest base and best close on Fri seemed to be $AG. $WPM second, and $GFI had a huge move but actually didn’t close very nice, a move above Fri high for this one to me. And actually $GDXJ looked better than most of the large holding charts oddly enough. Any one else ?

Inflation should weaken the currency, but our old buddies, the national debt, geo-political events, international concerns, and slowing economy are just some of the cross-currents spoiling the party. Can't buy as much gold when folks are flocking to the dollar.

We are in a Messy environment and the best course of action is to focus only on what’s working and wait for tighter price action or big moves on volume. $SCCO -- Phase 2 pullback ... - maracom: @bRobert $GLD $NUGT I'm long $GLD but I'm overweight/prefer $GDX. Downtrending channel has been broken on both charts. The juniors in $GDXJ are lagging but if they also breakout then I think that will be very bullish. The miners are VERY cheap on a P/E basis with excellent free cash flow and going into earnings season I think will hold up well
