  • Henry: Futures don't usually mean a lot this time of night, but they are down $18.50 at 8:45pm and tomorrow's earnings are $PG $$AXP and a handful of banks, unlikely to spike the opening. The weekend brings Mideast risk so tomorrow isn't shaping up to be turn around Friday.

  • Docoof: $BRK.B $BRKB $BRKA — Warren Buffett significantly increased his position in $CVX, now in Berkshire’s top 4 positions: Buffett’s $CVX investment was worth $25.9 billion at the end of March, Berkshire’s first-quarter filing Saturday showed, a big jump from its value of $4.5 billion at the end of 2021. $CVX is not the only energy stock Buffett likes. Last month, he bought $7 billion worth of $OXY’s common shares in additional investments. Berkshire’s biggest holding was still $AAPL, worth $159 billion at the end of the first quarter. $BAC and $AXP were the two other big holdings, worth $42.6 billion and $28.4 billion, respectively. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/04/30/warren-buffett-significantly-increases-chevron-bet-now-in-berkshires-top-4-positions.html

  • DAN: @bRobert $AXP $TSLA Agree. Waiting for the earnings info allows you to trade against the market's reaction rather than guess what it'll be.

  • Vineet: @DrScience $AXP I just saw your reply - thanks for taking the time with the suggestion...I ended up closing them out, but this definitely seems like a method to try in the future. I will have to look at it in depth to understand it better!
  • 1winkie: $AXP - hitting fresh all-time high this morning. What a stellar move for this old blue chip. Up about +20% YTD - Long
  • Vineet: So I am long $AXP Mar calls - $165, but short the $185's. Any suggestions as to best option in shutting this trade down - I'm thinking of buying back the 185's back (at a loss) but sell another higher strike...$195 or $200. I am not sure how solid the breakout is as it is on relatively low volume...@joelsg1 @Suz - would love any suggestions 😊thx
  • Suz: @Vineet $AXP I would hold the position as is and let it be called, and establish new long calls on pullback. The weekly chart does not show any weakness at all so I wouldn't suggest rolling to a higher strike right now.
  • Vineet: @Suz $AXP thanks...
  • DrScience: @Vineet $AXP The goal of the original trade was to get the width of the original spread ($20) minus original cost (??) from the trade(s). The new goal is to get the width of the original spread ($20) PLUS original cost PLUS Sprinkles! Put out an order to roll MAR 165 to APR 185 @ 16.00, or whatever takes all risk from the trade. Hard to see 6 weeks into the future, but... on a pullback, buy back the MAR 185 Calls for a larger credit (smaller debit) than you got originally., and sell weekly premium (up to 8 weeks) through APR OPEX, or until called away.

  • Pokersmith: #ShakyMath American Express Co. $AXP approached business owners to help them save taxes, a pitch that brought in billions of dollars of transaction volume since at least 2018, according to people familiar with the matter and documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. But there was a problem: The strategy relied on a shaky interpretation of how tax law treats rewards points. NP anymore ( stopped out )
  • capitalist36: @Pokersmith $SQ correct me if I'm wrong but tax loss harvesting you have to sell and be out 30 days to claim that loss for the year is that correct? $SQ seems to be in sync with these... $MA $V and must also be catching some headwind of $AXP Appreciate your post
  • Pokersmith: @capitalist36 $SQ $MA $V $AXP That is correct , ref: Tax loss harvesting. Any less than 30 days and you will be subject to the wash sale rule, which would disallow that loss. I don't think AXP issue is the headwind affecting V or MA, they have their own issues.
