"Stockchart" is a pretty good one too, not as detailed, but you can still put in two moving averages, BBs, candlesticks, red/green volume. Advantages over Candlestix? A big one is you can have multiple watchlists. Another advantage, you can type in ...
  • starboard tack: $AAPL @grcjr.. I switched (not completely) from golf to sailing about three years ago - so much to learn there too... In terms of indicators, I've been experimenting with a number of them since I joined SMM. So far, I seem to like $MFI, but gonna try OBV one of these days. I read posts about fib., pivots, and many other indicators as well.. somehow trying to keep it simple.
  • jojo1480: $AAPL CMG-@ckonelli, good morning! Think $AAPL depending on the conference today, BBand starting to expand, stochastic little sloppy but in uptrend, macd turning up from below the "0" point and $MFI definitely in a nice trend, maybe to 590. $CMG put a tight stop loss not looking good. $PCLN have a teeny short position placed this mornig. Am just playing @billy bean ball & watching my $GMCR (huge put position) making my week. Nothing has changed with the Euro news, waiting for the #Greece elections. Staying defensive, 90%cash.
  • tstrarup: PLCN jojo1480 If you get a chance, can you tell me what & where you see the good support for GOOG? I see higher lows but not higher highs. Is this the 20ema & 5ema kissing and bouncing up thing? $MFI decreased at eod. Anyway, yesterday what you told me helped a lot so thought I'd try for sum mo info....thx . Hit'm long and straight tomorrow or better yet, putt for dough, drive for show. Edited on Apr 04, 2012 20:28 Edited on Apr 04, 2012 20:28 Edited on Apr 04, 2012 20:28 Edited on Apr 04, 2012 20:28
  • jojo1480: WYNN- @tstrarup, I don' t trade WYNN. If I was holding those calls you have several things in your favor 1. declining volume while it consolidates around the 5day ema 2. stochastic, momo indicator at least not going down, but up, 3. $MFI (money flow index) somewhat bullish. I would hold $WYNN as long as the 5day ema (exponential moving avg) stays above the 20ema, it should kiss & bounce off it with higher volume. If it goes below say adios, gl
  • tstrarup: $WYNN jojo1480, sorry to bother you on your birthday evening. Hope you have a nice evening. If you can't answer, no problem. But when I look at 5ema and 20 ema on the 15 min. chart I see the 5 ema below not above 20ema. Am I doing something wrong. Also, what # is considered to be bullish on $MFI or does this vary from stock to stock? Thanks for helping me try to understand charts better.
  • jojo1480: GOOG- @nb8702, don' t which @charting service you use. Am with Fido, should be able to add indicators on any @charting service. Might want to add MACD RSI $MFI and Stochastics, there should be a many momentum indicators, just use a few to substantiate the stock movement.
  • jojo1480: AMZN- quietly filling the gap, now above a leveling/slightly upsloping 50dma, MACD Stochastics $MFI all going in the right direction, volume is a little light. Long Feb185, up 75% this morning, am looking for another couple of points and say adios.
  • gregory: ...
In LinkedIn's case, too many headlines are predicting the # bubble# and I guess this is why I am here to learn technical analysis as the folks on $FM say # price is truth# and right now $LNKD is showing higher highs and higher lows. Plus I see se ...
  • gregory: $LNKD - uhh, close outside the upper band, strong $MFI and BB%, taking out previous high, it goes higher. Not enough data, so it is hard to get a "tell". I'm in the lets take a nibble at a reversal camp. This is not dot com days circa 2000.
  • jojo1480: YHOO- 1st on the list of $MFI, being bought today. Perhaps, Carol Bartz as she indicated several years ago is setting the co. for sale, trimming headcount, no revenue growth, next step monetize Ali Baba, spinning it out and give to the shareholders (conjecture). Is D. Kass correct in his prediction that in 2011, this co no longer as a separate entity. Anyone in this dog. FD- no position.
  • jojo1480: ISRG- shredex3, checking Baron's data base, this was the #1 stock in $MFI ( value of $ in uptick- value of $ in downtick= MFI), so maybe value type managers with longer term holding are starting to buy. I just can' t bring my self to hold this longer than 24hrs, to much in the charts.
  • Arie: PCX - I couldn't call it extended. Just a few % over the 20, 50 and 200 day. Full $STO is high, but $MFI still under 80 (but increasing). OBV going up, suggesting accumulation.
  • jojo1480: BBY- jkricha, usually with retailers, buy after labor day and sell in Dec., I would place a stop loss around the 50dma ~$42, if it doesn't hold the 50dma, next support is the 200dma (sma) around $39.58. The secondary indicators OBV RSI $MFI MACD and Stochastic is following the downtrending price action.
  • jojo1480: HIG- call #options volatility increases daily on take over speculations, I have been playing $HIG and $GNW as a recovery play and holding it for the longer term. They had great earnings last week and investors were rewarded with ~$2 pop. daily/weekly charts are looking really good, and i love the "V" shapes in the secondary indicators MACD OBV RSI and $MFI indexes, its going higher. Position long $HIG GNW AFL.
  • jojo1480: $VMW AKAM- adding to positions, looking at $VMW daily chart, since the 1st wk of October, heavy volume shook out all the weak players. Looking at the secondary indicators MACD, $MFI and Stochastics all are trending higher (I normally don' t disagree with @DAN), my positions are profitable, therefore i could take a higher risk. Long $NTAP CTXS $VMW AKAM.
  • jojo1480: SNDK- k8e8n8t8, your name wouldn't by chance be Katie (just guessing on your handle), I sold my Oct30call this morning at 9.90, cost basis ~5.45. Looking at the daily chart, $SNDK is trading above the last major gap down, that occured on aug 23. Looking at all the secondary indicators: stochastic is making an entrance in the overbought territory (hopefully it stays there for a while),OBV, RSI, $MFI and MACD all heading in the right direction. Volume could be a little higher. Daily chart showing Vsqueeze and BB expansion. I think if $SNDK hits 41, I would hang on to it, you have a whole lot of time premium left.
  • jojo1480: TAL- looking at the $MFI (buying on the offer in this case), this stock is the 4th "buying on weakness", in Barron's market data center. Normal volume is ~162K, and today ~650K, so what gives? I was in this stock 3-6mos ago, wkly trading at the mid BB, the daily is more interesting, looking at a Vsqueeze, I am going with the flow of the crowd and just pu a position. The fundies in this intermodal leasing co is pretty good. fwd PE 11.3, $PEG .9, div $1.40, ylds 5.7%. Also, take a look at $TGH same business as TAL. Long TAL.
  • jojo1480: $SUP - Superior Industries, manufactures aluminum wheels to the OEMs of auto makers, PE 12.13, $EPS .29-.43, last qtr exceeded est., div .64 ylds 3.47%, short interest 5.7% (not current data). 52wk 12.55-18.57, currently at 18.43. Since Jun2010, eight research firm issued upgrades, and one downgrade. The theme is to participate in the increase of new auto sales and production (if you believe in it). $TA the wkly/daily, BB expansion to the upside, stoch remains oversold, RSI, OBV, $MFI, and MACD strong. Long $JCI and $HON, and $SUP for an entry point.

  • jojo1480: PDE-wkly BB expansion trading above the upper BB and tagging the 50dma, the daily at the upper BB and above 50dma, secondary indicators stoch have been in oversold since 30aug, RSI, MACD, OBV and $MFI are in the proper sphere, as the stock is under accumulation ( would like to see higher vol.). Energy sector long PDE COP $SDRL and $RIG (bought back yesterday).
  • jojo1480: DECK- mfosterjet, wkly chart still below 50dma secondary indicators $MFI, RSI, OBV and MACD- they all need to get better sloping action, the daily charts looks really good, i added to $DECK and $SKX this morning.
  • jojo1480: RIG- adding more this morning, looking at the secondary indicators (may not be relevant in this market) OBV MACD STOCH and $MFI, indicates going higher from the bottom. Long $RIG tight stops in place.
  • jojo1480: HK- Petrohawk energy corp, pure spec and short term trade, looking at the secondary indicators MACD RSI $MFI, this feels like its ready to coil to the upside, I like stocks when the MACD crosses over below the centerline- usually gaps up before settling down. I ve loaded the boat between 16-16.80. I just like being in vegas sometimes. Long $HK with tight stops.
  • msteidinger: Indicators; I've been reading John Bollinger's book and found an interesting indicator that I've been observing. It's called Intraday Intensity (II). It is essentially a volume indicator that takes into consideration the intraday price movement. I use Stock Finder 5 and created a real code macro to calculate and plot the variable (it is not in their standard library). I then created a moving average of the indicator and displayed it as bars. It has the look of a histogram and does a good job of anticipating price action. Bollinger also likes $MFI (money flow index) and volume weighted MACD. I have not yet looked into these others. Best Regards, msteidinger

  • jojo1480: $BGC - daily trading up to the 200 dma, 20 and 50dma turning upwards, secondary indicators MACD, $MFI, OBV, RSI really starting to perk up. Looking at blue sky territory. Long BGC
  • jojo1480: General - $MFI money flow index. Calculated by accumulation of positive and negative money values and the number of shares attached to those positive and negative values, this creates a ratio. Level below 20 oversold, levels over 80 overbought. I think this answer your questions.
  • jojo1480: $DM - Provides services financial, legal, and real estate PE 13, $PEG .92, 4.4% shorted, wk chart trading above upper BB, daily - bullish flag formation on break out, OBV, RSI - ok, $MFI off the charts..Earnings 04 May. No position

  • jojo1480: $FCX - I was going to wait to go below 77, stock has been trading in a channel between 77 and 87. it is a nice bounce off the lower BB. I have my periscope up, if it stay green I probably in by days end. OBV, RSI and $MFI, is starting to turn up. No position.
  • jojo1480: $BGC - The stock has been in an uptrend the past 7out8 weeks, big break out today - technically OBV, MACD, Stoch.,$MFI are strong indicators. Fundamentally PE 15, $PEG .82, short interest 13%, 52 wk range 22.08 - 42.73, earnings apr 29. resistance 200 dma approx. 32.45. getting close to resistance if earnings are strong stock can possibly go to its previous 52 wk high 42.73. Long since 27% ago.
  • jojo1480: $AEO - Missed earning last week, chart has reversed the past 3 days, OBV, RSI, $MFI all concurring. Long and adding.
  • jojo1480: BGC- Industrial manufactures wiring harness for autos, and other electronic applications. PE 12+, lo 25.89 hi 42.73 short interest ~ 14% its a play on the auto industry, missed Q4 earnings by 1c, increased institutional buying last $Q, MACD, OBV, RSI, $MFI nice directional flow upward.

  • suzie76040: @10kken: I do see 25.60 as a support area - I don't think it will hold as there was not a lot of time spent there. I drew my conclusion by seeing what happened the last time the stock started trending down. Look at December 2006. My thesis is that a stock usually behaves the same way in a similar situation. I then looked at the MACD, OBV, $MFI & Stoch's, all clearly in a downtrend. I based this trade primarily on a technical basis. I would welcome all comments/opinions on my thesis. Agree or disagree, why & why not... Thanks Ken for giving it a looksee :)

The big black candle that formed today has formed before. If you look back in March, the stock sold off right after this showed. MACD has started going sideways and MACD is slightly negative. $MFI (money flow) is also starting to go sideways whic ...
  • suzie76040: @Smita: RE: $MA I have my opinion on silence in regards to today's action as opinion has no place in my trading. In an effort to trade what is in front of me, I see $MA has decent support around $108, which to me would indicate a possible technical buying point. $MA tried to hold $112.50 today, but as we see, it did not. In reviewing the chart on this, I see OBV just turning down today, $MFI still in an intact uptrend and stoch's (full) still positive. So, my thesis would be if $MA holds 108.00, make entry to capture short #squeeze around 109.00 (just as a confirmation that it is moving back up). If $MA breaks $108, the trade is not valid. What do you think of this?
