- Watching $FTI again, which is bouncing at the December lows/the July consolidation region but also looks like it has a date with 200sma - Lou: Happy New Year all - For years, on the last day of trading, I've made a buy based on my perception (is it guess?) of something that I believe will perform well next year. Generally, it's been a stock in which I already had a position. This year it won't be different. I am now trying to decide on today's buy. The candidates are $ET $EPD $DBRG $FTI. I will post my decision as soon as I enter the order.
- Lou: @Lou $ET $EPD $DBRG $FTI - as tempted as I was to buy more of all four, because it is a smaller position of mine than the other three, I added to $ARDX.
- jonwest88: @Lou $ET $EPD $DBRG $FTI $ARDX I chose months ago and added a few times to $ET, still paying over 9% too. For exploration investment still have a small profitable position in $FANG.
- Lou: @jonwest88 $ET $EPD $DBRG $FTI $ARDX $FANG - good choice - $ET is such an oversized position for me that I can't add any more. It's what I call my "one decision investment.'" Because distributions reduce one's basis (they're treated for the most part as return of capital), on sale they are gains, and on top of that there would be significant depreciation recapture, the tax bite on sale would eat away much of any gain. At my age, and with the great tax deferred cash flow, I'm determined to hold $ET (and $EPD) for my estate. At that time, under current tax laws, there would be a step-up in basis and my heirs would be able to sell without tax consequences. That said, I think that it's still a great buy, even today.

- Lou: @Margi1983 $RELY $FTI - no, I'm still holding a more than full position that's up more than 100% - happy with what I have. I did cut it in half at a very good profit. I still look at it as having a good amount of head room.
- Margi1983: @Lou Have not done the bond ladder yet, but I must do this soon. You did Munis and Treasury's right? My $FTI is up 45%. Thinking of adding but with cost basis near $13.50, $19.50 seems pricey. I retire next November 2024

- Lou: @shoredriver $NVDA _ thanks for the idea - adding a mix of Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Jobim to my sounds today as I need to get away from CNBC and Fox Business. BTW, also added $WFRD on the $FTI news last night. I think that $FTI is preparing for a sale and IMO $WFRD is the natural partner. They work side by side for many mutual clients.
- maracom: Good morning all! $FTI pullback yesterday spooked me a bit because of it's magnitude, so I sold off my remaining shares today but I'll keep an eye on a low risk re-entry point. $NVDA is resting below 500, looks like earnings will make the decision. I'm within a few percent of breakeven so I'll probably wait for Monday but will likely close my BePS down before earnings. Retail popping off lately, seems to be some bullish sentiment regarding holiday shopping. #Trading: Long $WPM $UNG $EWZ Short: $NVDA (460/450 Dec BePS) $KRE (long Dec $43 puts) #LTA: Long $BIL $NEM $SLV $DVN $FCX -$FCX retesting the 50d from below. - Lou: @Margi1983 $FTI #MuniTbillLadder - glad it's working for you. Love my $FTI and am thinking that it's small enough to be on some larger company's acquisition radar. As for the bond ladder, apparently I started building it right on time and posted here. I was thinking that we may have been on the verge of a recession and recessions generally bring interest rates down significantly. So I skewed my ladder towards mid-term and LT bonds and, as I live in a high SL tax state, I did mostly munis but I found some very attractive LT T-bills as well. The opportunity is still there IMO. - Lou: @bigbartabs $FTI $TLT $DBRGprI - I was a competitive sprinter in HS (alas not nearly fast enough beyond that level) but I've long since recognized that investment management is a long-distance race, not a sprint, and in order to succeed, one has to constantly keep that in mind. In managing a portfolio, one cannot get whipsawed by the ever-changing flavors of the day.

- DAN: $FTI -- Breaking out today after strong earnings. I covered this just yesterday. I would not be buying it here -- still needs time to set up a bit more. But it should definitely be on your watch list.
- Lou: I haven't been posting lately as I've been inactive in the market. Holding just a very few core positions (Love the $FTI earnings reaction). while I've adding almost daily to my #BondLadder and $TLT. Also, I've been building a large position in the DBRG preferred I, $DBRGprI, which is being repurchased by the company. yields about 8.5% and is likely to be called at 25. Other than that, I've got nothing to say.

- Lou: Raised a good amount of cash by exiting almost half my $FTI position for about a 65% gain. Still positive for the future and also holding LEAP calls at $12 and short puts at $15 for 1/24.

- Lou: My $FTI and $CROX got hit in the pre-market. At over $18 $FTI still is a strong hold for me and up close to 80%. I may take a bit off, pay Uncle Sam and MD but will add a bit before the next earnings run. As for $CROX, glad I took some off yesterday, but I have no idea why it's down in pre-market. I plan to hold on to my remaining $CROX (in my account but never on my feet).

- Lou: @bigbartabs $FTI $XLE - why not? For me, however, I believe in the oilfield service sector, and $FTI had the most leverage when I started buying. I've got a massive gain in my holding and plan to ride it to the upside as long as I can.
