  • georgercarrjr: #Options Training or just training - when I started to get serious I went to a couple seminars at Fidelity. They have a very good $CMT (Chartered Market Technician) who does all the technical sessions (basic/advanced tech analysis, basic/advanced #op ...
  • PaulJ888: Hi guys, I am currently doing investment analysis work and am really enjoying it. I am curious if anyone has their $CMT or if you have an opinion on the credibility of the designation for working in the industry. Is there another more recognized designation I should go for instead? I am also working towards my CFA. Writing the first one in a few weeks. Thanks for any an all input $CMT designation (http://www.mta.org/eweb/StartPage.aspx)
  • Forexpro: Re: $CMT Designation Hi, Paulj888, The CFA charter is basically a requirement now if you want to work on the buy side at a professional level. It's not a bad thing to have on the sell side, but I'm not aware of any place where it's effectively mandatory. The $CMT designation is more of a luxury item, and while I've run into a number of people on the sell side who have it (including my own shop's head currency strategist, who is also a CFA charterholder) I don't think that I know anyone on the buy side who has indulged. Most people find prepping for the CFA exams to be adequately time consuming and stressful; do you really want to make that additional commitment? As always, for what it's worth; best of luck with your exam!
  • Forexpro: Re: $CMT, etc. You're Welcome, PaulJ888, And I take your point; if you're going to plough through the reading anyway, sure, why not get the designation? As far as your other query goes, no, I odn't believe that I'm acquainted with people holding those credentials, but that doesn't imply that they don't exist. I'm just not familiar with them. Again, best of luck with your endeavors. Intellectual curiosity is a gift.
  • armishm: Worden - @Greg, I've been to the one in Chicago. Julia is a great teacher I hope you get her. They typically spend much time reviewing their software. Then they typically open the floor to a q&a session. They also offer attendees good deals on renewing their contracts. I upgraded last night to TC2000. I haven't spent much time toying with it but running scans is much easier. On a side note does anyone in the forum use TC2000 and wouldn't mind setting up a SMM "Friend" list or having those in the forum add to each other? I like the idea of being able to view other people's ideas on chart reading. I'm working through the $CMT reading list and my trading has improved but still not feeling compitent especially at turning points and choppy markets.

  • jdkk59: WPRT-Bouncing off of support on daily and weekly. Looks like a good entry. I am interested in the nat gas transition stocks like $CLNE, $WPRT, $CMT for a long term position. I would appreciate any thoughts.
  • zguy: MTA - I am currently working towards completing the $CMT Level 1 Exam this fall. I will not be able to get the $CMT designation once I complete all three exams since I do not have any industry experience. I am solely doing this to get a good foundation with technical analysis, which I am very interested in.

    5. That I can write this and understand what I am thinking. You may not, but I can tell you 12 months ago, I could not either. I am studying for my $CMT because of @Dan, @Gary, Kacey, (hope I have that spelled right) and @Karen. Of course, me and Bl ...
  • brfarrell: Good morning all. I was at a Worden Seminar on Friday and the presenter mentioned the Market Tech. Association. They offer courses to get a Certified Market Tech. designation. Their website is mta.org. Look under $CMT Programs and in there is their reading list for their courses. Looks like a good web site with a lot of resources. Have a great weekend. I am off to the mountains above Palm Springs, Ca. for my birthday. God bless my wonderful wife. I wouldn't go anywhere if it were not for her planning. $BRF
  • Suzie: @BarbG: That is so funny! I am honored to have your new baby named after me! You'll have to send pics. As far as trading goes, Im nothing special...I credit @Dan for "lighting my fuse" so to speak and encouraging me to learn. Im studying for my $CMT so am checking out all kinda of $TA methods and theories. I find this stuff fascinating.
  • vettepwr: Suzie: Regarding your $CMT quest. Do you actually work in the financial industry? The reason why I ask is that I was very interested in pursuing that credential but can take the exams but will not be abe to get the actual designation without the required years of experience in the industry. Thanks.
  • Dan: Good morning, Tom. I think getting a $CMT is great if you manage money and want some kind of distinguishing marketing tool that puts you above your competitors. The curriculum is really good and you'd have to learn intermarket analysis, basic (and ...

  • Khaos: Hi Team, Is anyone here $CMT (Chartered Market Technician) certified? I noticed that @Dan is part of the MTA and was wondering if it'll be useful to ameliorate my chart reading skills. I thought this would be relevant since SMM is mostly focused on technical analysis. I'm also wondering how useful this certification is in the real world when one is trying to obtain a vocation. Any feedback would be appreciated!

And team, it takes a minimum of 3 years to get your $CMT from the Market Technicians Association. Curtis Butler ("@cabutler") has both a $CMT, and is also a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) -- which means that he's pretty darned comfortable with b ...
  • Dan: Hi Horsey. Re/ @Elliott Theory -- your interpretation certainly has merit. The funny thing about the $EW theory is this: There is no right answer (and that comes directly from the MTA board that grades the $CMT exams). It's interpretation based largely on hindsight. So, sure, it could be a 4th -- just depends on how far out you want to zoom. RE/ TZOO: Why not just keep it on your watch list and let me know when it breaks above $39.20. That would be the time to consider getting involved.
