- AndStars: #YIELDHOGS Here is my (very) short list of interesting #YIELDHOGS. I in no way endorse any of these, nor am I necessarily invested in any of them. This is just an interesting list. Anyone have an opinion on these, or perhaps other income producing stocks? $CLM 17.4% $AGNC 13.4% $NLY 12.5% $ARCC 9.5% $EFT 9.6% $EFR 8.2% $NEWT 6.7% $O 5.8% $T 4.5% $KMI 4.3% $XOM 3.4%
- mopick: @AndStars $CLM $AGNC $NLY $ARCC $EFT $EFR $NEWT $O $T $KMI $XOM #YIELDHOGS #YIELDHOGS, my favorite high-yielders are (1) $BCX, resources/commodities fund, just hit another all-time high, yields 7.5%; next up, $VYMI, hit another all-time high, Vanguard International Fund, yielding 11%, lastly, $QQQI, Neos funds, Nasdaq High-Dividend, yielding a gaudy 13.8%
- AndStars: @mopick $CLM $AGNC $NLY $ARCC $EFT $EFR $NEWT $O $T $KMI $XOM $BCX $VYMI $QQQI #YIELDHOGS Thanks, @mopick! Very interesting.
- AndStars: @AndStars $CLM $AGNC $NLY $ARCC $EFT $EFR $NEWT $O $T $KMI $XOM #YIELDHOGS As $Geewhiz suggested over on OMM, preferred stock might offer more middle of the road risk possibilities. Here's some info on preferred stock from companies on the previous list that offer it: $AGNC $AGNCZ Series H Preferred 8.75% $AGNCL Series G Preferred 7.75% $NLY $NLY.PRF or $NLY-PF or $NLYpF Series F Preferred 6.95% $NLY.J or $NLY-PJ or $NLYpJ Series J Preferred 6.95% $NEWT $NEWTP Series B Preferred 8.5% $T $T.PRC or $T-PC or $TpC Series C Preferred 4.75% $T.PRA or $T-PA or $TpA Series A Preferred 5.00% (Alternate tickers are representations for various platforms. - DrScience: $CLM #Yieldhogs @jan2138 Yesterday, the stock broke out of a 4% volatility squeeze, but closed on the low, for a failed breakout that didn't hold. Today, the stock regained strength and will likely close above yesterday's high. The stock pays a 12 1/4 cent dividend (17.31% annualized) on 10/15. The company will set next year's distribution on October 31, and the stock has traditionally been sold into the event. A look at the monthly chart shows Chaikin Money Flow as quite strong over the past two years. If all goes well, the stock could double in the next two years, so now is the time to take a starter position with the intent to buy more on any sell-off. The trade locks in the distributions for the next 3 months, which were announced at the beginning of August. For more information, see: www.cornerstonestrategicinvestmentfund.com
- kenb: @DrScience $CLM #Yieldhogs Interesting. Question, would you know if this a 1099 divvy and is it qualified?
- Geewhiz: @kenb $CLM #Yieldhogs its 1099 reported. But part of dividends are return of capital. In a taxable account Return of capital is not taxed immediately but affects capital gains when you sell. Double check before buying.
- Henry: @kenb $CLM #Yieldhogs By their holdings, I don't know why they would be considered a Partnership needing a K1
- DrScience: @kenb $CLM #Yieldhogs CLM is a closed‑end fund that pays according to a managed distribution policy (fixed % of NAV). To maintain that payout, it often distributes more than it earns in dividends/interest. The excess is treated as ROC. Tax ramifications of distribution make-up: 1) Return of Capital (ROC): Not taxed as income in the year received. Instead, it reduces your cost basis in the shares. When you eventually sell, that lower basis means higher capital gains. 2) Ordinary dividends / qualified dividends: A smaller portion of the distribution may be classified as dividend income (some of which may be “qualified” if it meets IRS rules). 3) Capital gains distributions: Occasionally, the company may sell an asset. A part of the proceeds payed out may be classified as long‑term capital gains.
- joelsg1: @Geewhiz $CLM #Yieldhogs Not a partnership so no K-1. You'd get a Form 1099-DIV in January for prior year's distributions. Key to this is it pays divis monthly at end of each month.
- DrScience: @Henry $CLM #Yieldhogs Since they hold MLP's inside the portfolio, the shareholder does not become a direct limited partner, and thus, is not responsible for K1 filings. The 1099-DIV will break down distributions into ordinary dividends, qualified dividends, capital gains, and return of capital (ROC). The cost basis tax ramifications hit when the fund is sold and proceeds realized, hopefully, after the investor reaches seniority and gains an additional deduction just for being old. According to IRS rules, each ROC distribution reduces cost basis in the shares. Once adjusted basis reaches zero, it cannot reduce it further, and any additional ROC beyond that point is no longer “return of capital.” Instead, it is taxed in the year received as a capital gain (generally long‑term, regardless of actual holding period).
- kenb: @DrScience $CLM #Yieldhogs thanks for the detailed explanation. It sounds to me like it might be better in a retirement account due to the complexities of tax reporting in a taxable account. And thanks to the other posters for their input as well. A good discussion.
- kycol: $CVX $CLM & $BIGZ went exdividend today long
- kycol: @kycol $CVX $CLM $BIGZ also $ARR
- Wolf: @Henry $CLM #Yieldhogs #Yieldhogs In the last 5 years, the Div has been cut from .185 to .11. and has dropped from a high of 14 to current 8.43. Violates 2 of my #yieldhog rule "can't be over 20% off high since Covid and Div can't be decreasing."
- Henry: @Wolf $CLM #Yieldhogs sounds like a good rule. I don't understand what they own, even less than some of my BDC's that own multiple small businesses. Huge volume yesterday and still no news. Good luck for those that own it.
- Hawaiianmaxx: Anyone got the insides scoop on $CLM? Not really a popular stock but it's getting smashed. I feel like a rights offering is on the horizon. #Yieldhogs
- Waylon: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM #Yieldhogs This could be a capital gains (both long and short term) and a dividend pay out, and the price reflects the distribution. I'm telling you this without really looking into the reason. So the price falls at least as much of the pay out, and then shares are added to your holdings at the lower cost.
- Henry: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM #Yieldhogs the record date isn't till 12/16 so there must be another reason
- Cjauger: @Henry $CLM #Yieldhogs not seeing anything, looked for info on how they generate that monster dividend. Found. Nothing
- Henry: @Cjauger $CLM #Yieldhogs I never heard of them before today. According to Yahoo 33% ytd return! It's a fund of funds according to their last list of holdings.
- Hawaiianmaxx: @Henry $CLM #Yieldhogs i've been HODLing this thing for years. The true potential for this is the reinvestment at NAV. @DrScience and i have mentioned this ticker a few times in the past. Does the old chat get deleted every year or so? Mahalo BTW for helping with the search
- Hawaiianmaxx: @Cjauger $CLM #Yieldhogs 🤙🏽 thanks braddah I appreciate the effort

- DrScience: $CLM #Yieldhogs went ex-dividend today. This quarterly payer (.1086/qtr, 16.67% ann. yield) has declared distributions through September. Caveat: Be aware and read the prospectus The Board sets the distribution percentage for the next year for the upcoming calendar year which will be applied to the net asset value of the fund as of the end of October of the current year. For example, in 2024, the distribution percentage of 21% of NAV was determined in Oct 2023.) The distribution percentage is not a function of, nor is it related to, the investment return on the fund's portfolio.
- Hawaiianmaxx: @DrScience $CLM #Yieldhogs it's actually Monday.
- DrScience: $CLM #Yieldhogs Oops! This is a MONTHLY payer.
- Hawaiianmaxx: @DrScience $CLM #Yieldhogs I've been in this since 2018. I've been contemplating if I should start selling some and rolling it into $MSTY and $NVDY. What are your thoughts sir?
- DrScience: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM The board lists the record date as July 15, so ex-div date is the trading day before.

- DrScience: $CLM #Yieldhogs @jan2138 The stock goes ex-div (.1228, 16.79%) on Monday. So, if ya' want to own the stock for the divvy, today is your day.
- Hawaiianmaxx: @DrScience $CLM #Yieldhogs im not expecting a rights offering anytime soon. what are your thoughts?
- DrScience: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM #Yieldhogs Of course, I don't run the company, and the board doesn't confide in me, either. But... a rights offerings or distribution cut will have the same effect. RHRN, we're coming up on the distribution announcement for the next three months, and if the current level (.1228) remains, and as long as the 8 EMA and 21 EMA continue to track higher, I'll continue to hold.
- Hawaiianmaxx: @champ $CLM #Yieldhogs #Top-10-holdings yesssirr...except i just found out today that charles schwab took over TDAmeritrade. so if new accounts in CS or TD you cant change your reinvestment to buy at NAV. - DrScience: $CLM #Yieldhogs Testing the 200 DMA from below on this breakout. The stock goes ex-div on 6/14 with a .1228 dividend. The same dividend is set for Jul 13, Aug 14, and Sep 14. Again, caution is warranted as the annualized yield is quite high @ 18.04%.
- Hawaiianmaxx: @DrScience $CLM #Yieldhogs still holding this since 2018....my monthly dividends are more than my monthly salary.....😱😱😱😱
- champ: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM #Yieldhogs ....#Real-Nice and you are smarter than the average Cat....so you must be holding size, if your monthly Div, is larger than your monthly salary, patiences works and you found an investment that works for you. And it sure sounds like you are going to keep flying the same route. LOL
- champ: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM #Yieldhogs....After a quick walk-around, this investment looks safe because of their #Top-10-holdings....they invest their customers $$$ into these quaintly companies, so the only risk would be, the Markets and all during Covid, if this Investment didn't go under then, with the Markets, then my guess would be, it should be a safe hold now. .......Pays over 18%...... .
- Hawaiianmaxx: @DrScience $CLM $CRF #Yieldhogs everyone that is young should put some of this in their buy n forget portfolio. i started 2 ira's for the kids. probably put it in a trust at some point. Look into it young bloods. monthly payout.

- stairm01: @grcjr $NLY #YIELDHOGS I've looked at many of JAN2138's Yield Hogs and they have rolled off the cliff. They are not looking good at all, but I'm watching $CLM $AGNC $NEWT for a possible bounce and move higher candidates.

vscottg: @stairm01 $NLY $CLM $AGNC $NEWT #YIELDHOGS Notes from yesterday afternoon:
Annaly Capital Management, Inc. (NLY) is currently at $20.49, down $2.11 or 9.34%
--Would be lowest close since April 7, 2020, when it closed at $17.80

They all have rolled off a cliff and dropping like a rock. I'm watching for a bottom in AGNC and CLM, provided they continue to pay their dividend.
- vcondry: @stairm01 $BX $NLY $CLM $AGNC $NEWT $BAC $JPM $FAS $C It operates much differently than those companies though. Not a REIT and I don't believe was ever intended to be a yield hog just has gotten crushed with the wider market.
- Auto: $CLM nice daily squeeze watching for the break above 50
- stairm01: @Auto $CLM And a great dividend. I trade in and out of this one a lot. Presently long.
- Auto: @stairm01 $CLM I forgot about the div Thanks!
- grcjr: $YIELDHOGS $CLM is one I do not trust enough to put in a full position. Only a tracking position. 25.83% yield!! Is it too good to be true long term? It has managed to pay the div
- grcjr: @shoredriver @stairm01 @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM did resume the offering. Set to end June 10. I would like to find an analyst review of the offering. Pro and Con.

- Kimberley: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM how do you put a order in?
- Hawaiianmaxx: @Kimberley $CLM if you're already in the stock they should have sent you a notice through your brokerage. You have to order through them. If Charles Schwab you can do it online I think TD Ameritrade you need to call it in Ally you can do it online too. Good luck stay Green! 💚

- stairm01: $CLM A good buy this morning on this yield hog. I've been buying after the ex-div date on the dips.
- sierramp: @Dan nice call on $CLM.
- stairm01: @sierramp $CLM Your welcome. I've posted many times about watching this 2- 6 days after the ex-div date for new entries. I got out Friday at 14.31 after getting the dividend and re-entered this morning multiple times from 13.45 to 13.17. Bam at 2:00
- sierramp: @stairm01 $CLM My apologies. I did see you post about it I believe yesterday. Thank you.
- Hawaiianmaxx: @sierramp $CLM Care!!!! The rights offering is going to make this drop. Lots of ways the trade this ticker.
- stairm01: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM Do you understand what is happening April 18? It sounded similar to a 1 for 3 split but was stated a rights offering.
- sierramp: @Hawaiianmaxx $CLM Good point. Sounds like dilution.
- stairm01: @sierramp $CLM Rights Offering takes place when a company offers additional stock shares for sale to its existing shareholders on a pro-rata basis. These additional shares of stocks are known as subscription warrants. Generally, the per share price of these stocks is set lower than the market price. These are generally transferable, and the shareholders may sell them in the open market. The purpose is for the company to raise additional funds.
- sierramp: @stairm01 $CLM Debt has to be the key. Can't find that info.

- Snowcat: @sierramp $CLM How do you reinvest divs at NAV? The NAV is at 10.08 per the CLM website as of 1/7/22. Thank you in advance.
- sierramp: @Snowcat $CLM @Snowcat $CLM It apparently differs from broker to broker. When I first began buying into $CLM a year ago, Fidelity reinvested at current price. However, two months ago they changed to NAV.
- Hawaiianmaxx: $CLM monthly reminder. expiry date is thurs buy some if that atm 🤑 Stay green fam 🤙🏽
- sierramp: As Tom Canfield would say and would approve of, $CLM is in a defined trend with support. Its 15.14% div goes ex on Jan 13th, paid Jan 31st. It is a monthly dividend now being paid at 18.08¢. Fidelity pays it out at NAV.
- Hawaiianmaxx: Added to $CLM to rebuild my position. next year the monthly dividend is going from .16 to .18 Also if your buying $CLM make sure to reinvest at the NAV value instead of market value. VERY IMPORTANT to do so. Stay green friends
- stairm01: $CLM Yield Hog looking good here 4 days after paying monthly dividend. It typically starts to bounce 4-6 days after paying out the dividend and I add. I've been riding up and selling before the ex-div date. Good volume today and this goes to 0.1808 next month which puts it at a 15.73% return at the present price of $13.79.
