  • greenpatrol: $CGNX just triggered an inside week and up at 68.62
  • JosephM: $CGNX looks good. Volume isn't there though. Is it still a buy without the volume we are seeking?
  • greenpatrol: @JosephM $CGNX I bought some at 68.62. Keep watching it for a move over today's high at 69.40
  • greenpatrol: @JosephM $CGNX Daily volume was above the 10 day average. Good end of day surge. Enough to keep me in.

  • BellaVino: @pbrown38 $CGNX Motley Fool Stock Advisor just added this to their list yesterday so that is probably the volume. I got their service earlier in the year, but very different strategy with them - basically it's buy and hold for at least 3-5 years no matter what.
  • pbrown38: @brobert $CGNX looks like it has completed a C&H on weekly chart and no on way up. Big volume day today and moving averages are all in line. Am I seeing the C&H correctly?
  • bRobert: @pbrown38 $CGNX Essentially. Correct. This stock has been in cup like consolidation for nearly 3 years Range $35 - $69. $100 upside target. The top of the left side of the cup is $69

$CGNX – Meh. Probably going a bit higher…but it’s not a high probability trade here. The 50-day moving average is still below the 200-day. As a method trader, this isn’t a good thing.

  • DragonFly: @woodman $CGNX Weekly chart, bouncing right off the 20dma. Seems to be several growth stocks with this pattern. I'm hoping they resume the uptrend.
  • Ottawagreg: @ROSEY #rotation $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR.... I believe these are the tickers he is referring to. Some big money makers in 2017.
  • woodman: @Ottawagreg $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #rotation - yes, they were high flyers in 2016-2017 that correct decently in November/beginning of December of 2017.
  • ROSEY: @Ottawagreg $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #rotation Thanks for this list I will be watching a few of these. Don't freeze your toesies there in your beautiful Country. Minnesota was so cold, the kids kept bringing in wood for the fireplace.

  • issues: If we are holders of $OXLC today we get the dividend since tomorrow is X-day, right? So why isn't it going up? Same with all the other hogs... Dan said (on the weekend SS) that $CGNX was OK above the split price of $63.21, right?
  • DrScience: @issues $OXLC Stock price not so much about collecting the dividend tomorrow as future effect on earnings power under another quarter-point rise in interest rates, cost of money, investments, yada-yada-yada. Folks seeing the distribution will drop price down to June lows may be gettin' skeered. $CGNX Yes.

  • issues: I appreciate Dan's comments about this being a 'bull trap'. Dan is right a lot. Like when he said take partial profits when tech was at it high. I didn't follow his advice and regret it especially on $ANET! Wow 40 point drop! Will it ever return back up>? I added to $ALGN $SEDG $MKSI $RHT> and sold 1/4 position in $CGNX and all of $MZOR. Also sold $KRO with small profit. Bought starter in $ADBE! stop at $165. Added to $ROKU with stop at $35! Looking at $CRM and seeing the top is around $108. Not much room 'til it hits it's resistance.
  • DAN: $LRCX $NVDA $COHR $SQ $PYPL $CGNX $DVMT These growth stocks are all lower this morning. With the market so strong, any stock that isn't getting some love should be looked at very suspiciously. If there was current demand for the stock, it should be moving higher today. If it's not...it's a problem.
  • stox: @DAN $LRCX $NVDA $COHR $SQ $PYPL $CGNX $DVMT Dan would PAYC, mentioned in the weekend update, fit into this group as well?
  • DAN: @stox $LRCX $NVDA $COHR $SQ $PYPL $CGNX $DVMT Yeah, stox. It does. Anything can happen this afternoon. Many lines of support are being tested. A rebound this afternoon would be a positive sign...but a lack of a rebound (and I don't see any right now) would be a real negative development. Reminder to everyone: The "growth stock list" is a list of stocks with strong revenue/EPS results over the last year, and with good, uptrending and charts that reveal institutional sponsorship. The technical picture can change any time. I'm not issuing "buy" and "sell" instructions on those stocks. They are "ideas"... A significant number of our members aren't really "swing" traders. They want to be in the type of stocks I just described without having to actively trade them.
  • traderbren: $CGNX - considered a short this morning, but my attention got diverted. Heading to the 50dma
  • tigerjohn8: @traderbren $CGNX I should have had a stop in place but failed to do so. Looks like this just touched it's 50dma and bounced a little. Setting a stop now just below 50dma at 63.5 It's not #tech but acting like one today!
  • spmeyers: @tigerjohn8 $CGNX #tech well, I think automation is kinda in the tech sphere
  • woodman: #Rotation - $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR.... Seeing a pattern among the 2017 high fliers?
  • bRobert: @woodman $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation You eventually come back for the good kids if you accidentally left them at the rest stop.
  • woodman: @bRobert $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation - the key is to have enough gas in the tank to make the trip back to get them.
  • issues: @woodman $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation Yes I see all the great stocks dropping on this rotation. But at a certain point the rotation will rotate back, right? "Hope" isn't a good strategy but it is a strategy that's the basis of all investing...
  • woodman: @issues $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation - I expect them to come back within a day or a year or anything in between or after.
  • issues: @woodman $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation Woodie are you hitting that holiday egg nog a little too soon?
  • ROSEY: @woodman $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation YOU ARE SO PRECISE, LOL.
  • bRobert: @issues $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation the plan is to have ride these great stocks up. Take partial profits along the way. and ultimately be stopped out for terrific . Many of these had obscene runs. Now. Rinse repeat at great entry points.
  • Sluggo: @woodman $ALGN $PYPL $SQ $V $MA $ISRG $DVMT $CGNX $IPGP $SEDG $MU $LRCX $ICHR #Rotation Woodman, you can see my posts last week and I did indeed own a lot of the high fliers but from a lower point. I do not panic, but I gradually sold them over a few days and actually took more profits the weeks before. Dan's #1 rule don't lose your money. Took a minor loss on the whole package, but nothing to hurt me. You are right and who wants to follow all these high fliers down when they can watch from the sidelines and rejoin them later? In other words, I agree with your posts. How long? day, month, year? Why follow the roller coaster down?

  • woodman: @mharps $IPGP - funny, I was just admiring this one. It's a thing of beauty. $CGNX is another beaut. Long both.
  • tigerjohn8: @success $IPGP $CGNX when I'm kinda clueless where to put a stop on charts like these I resort to using chandelier exit price would be. So today I reset my stop on them to 220 on $IPGP and 131.5 on $CGNX . I would really appreciate any suggestions of how to do this better! (I am not someone that can watch them all day)
  • mharps: @tigerjohn8 $IPGP $CGNX I'm long Jan 240's-up 280% but see no signs of pullbacks so I'll just watch it closely-plenty of time
  • bsafriet: $CGNX @Dan Have you changed your assessment of $CGNX and addition to your list of growth stocks?
  • DAN: @bsafriet $CGNX It fits the profile. It should be on that list. Not a good place to buy here. But it should be on there.
  • DAN: @DAN $CGNX On Oct 20th, I mentioned in the weekend update that I should put it on the list. Apparently I'm losing my memory as I approach 60. 8-{
  • bsafriet: @DAN $CGNX It's hell getting old! And they tell me the "best" is yet to come!
  • DAN: @bsafriet $CGNX Here's my opinion: The best is yet to come because we forgot about how good it used to be.
  • bsafriet: @DAN $CGNX How long did you have to think about that one? LOL
  • woodman: @bsafriet $CGNX ... responded by doing what???
  • bsafriet: @woodman $CGNX Excuse me! I’ll edit it to popping. My bad!
  • bsafriet: $CGNX Zacks upgraded to buy today. Has responded by popping to new ATH of $134.70, currently trading at $132.19 + 4.77, ( 3.74%). I sold prior to ER to protect profits and re-entered at $122.74. Holding until I get bucked off or I get a case of I can’t help it and take profits.
  • bsafriet: @bsafriet $CGNX Txs for catching that! Are you long?
  • woodman: @bsafriet $CGNX - just having a little Friday fun with you. I knew what you meant. Yes, I bought $CGNX on 10/31 when it gave that little window of a pullback to the middle BB. I finally caught it.
  • woodman: $CGNX is right back on course following a little weirdness after it reported. But really it barely broke stride.
  • issues: @woodman $CGNX Yes we bought a starter thanks to you and others on the Four-'em...
  • woodman: $CGNX - I entered this today on weakness following earnings. The earnings and guidance seemed good, but stock is red (bearish engulfing). It has found support at the 21dEMA. For now anyway.
  • tigerjohn8: @woodman $CGNX Almost stopped out, I instead added to my small position. A nervous trade but I think correct
  • woodman: $CGNX I bought that dip this morning. It's been working to make it's way back to green and above VWAP.
  • bsafriet: @woodman $CGNX Great entry! I had an appointment this AM and missed the opportunity. Sold my position yesterday before the close and ahead of ER. Watching now for an entry Hopefully before x-div and split.
  • issues: @woodman $CGNX I have been stalking $CGNX but it didn't let me in. I forgot about it until you reminded me. I bought a starter today b/c of your post and my research. IBD shows CGNX as cumulative 98 and accumulation B- (in industry group 14) I also considered, but didn't buy, $GRVY in IBD industry group 8. Up 9% today, but it's a low vol stock. NP CGNX reported a good beat on earnings 1.05 to 1.14 (8.5%) Good call!
  • woodman: @issues $CGNX $GRVY - Seems like a large majority of beats this Q. Same with last Q. Many ways to play this - from just holding through earnings, to buying beaten down ones going into earnings (i.e. on the theory that if the numbers are bad, it's baked in) and holding through, to looking for misguided reactions to earnings/guidance beats the day after/morning of the announcements. I've been taking a stab at all of them. But for the most part, I've just been holding stuff through earnings this Q.
  • bsafriet: $AEIS $CGNX. Both report after the bell today and both are selling off. Profit taking prior to ER? Long full position both.
  • issues: @steve71 $BOTZ $ROBO Steve-O thanks for the research on robotics! These are two excellent ETFs. BOTZ (Large cap includes $NVDA $ISRG two great stocks)is up over 6% for the month and 16% in 3 months. $ROBO (Mid cap (incl $AVAV $CGNX) 1 month 4.95%, 3 month 12.68%. ROBO looks to be breaking out. I like the small pull back in BOTZ, but ROBO looks to be breaking out. Which one do you think is a better buy right now? Steve I still smile at the picture with (you?) the crash helmet and handle bar mustache. It makes me think you are the kind of guy who tackles projects head on. "Just do it" type who loves life and doesn't mind taking a risk. Am I right?

  • bsafriet: $CGNX Looks like an earnings run, but some talk that companies are adding automation based on potential tax cut. Reports 10/30 AMC. Has been a core holding for me but have traded in and out a few times over the last year. Long stock, no options position which is a change for me -- this started out as a long diagonal call spread for my first entry.
  • success: in response to Dan's comments a couple of weeks back I thought I would outline my recent purchases and where they came from. Any questions let me know . . $CGNX, $CHKP, $CVLT, $CZR, $FIVE, $OLED, $PRAH, $SYMC, $TQQQ, $WCN, $ALXN, $BSX, $CRM, $GRUB, $PAYC, $PAYC, $PYPL, $SQ, $STMP, $TNA, $UBIO I reduced my cash position to 75% and added a number of starter positions. Most of the new adds were based off of IBD 50 and Large CAP 20 listings as i monitor the two lists for stocks approaching/ breaking through their buy points. The balance are from some of Dan's discussions and some from the forum. All have between 2-4% trailing stop percentages and total "stopped-out" impact to the portfolio is pretty small. Not really going out on a limb but trying to do better than sitting all in cash.
