  • phgruver: Healthcare $XLV, and utilities, $XLU are my best performers, so far today. In healthcare I have $ABBV, $BMY, $CVS and $PFE. I would suggest you stay away from $PFE, but the others are cooking! In utilities I have $AEP, $D, $DUK and $SO. I'm not real happy with $D, but the others all have nice charts and pay decent dividends. $AEP, $DUK and $SO are all breaking out from a squeeze and are above the upper Bollinger Band.
  • woodman: @phgruver $XLV $XLU $ABBV $BMY $CVS $PFE $AEP $D $DUK $SO - Some additional sectors, perhaps: XLRE, SDY, maybe IHI (but nearing rising resistance), and maybe XLF & GLD/IAU (they are resting today)
  • jaeran: @woodman $XLV $XLU $ABBV $BMY $CVS $PFE $AEP $D $DUK $SO
  • phgruver: @PhilHarmonic @Henry $WBA The neighborhood drug store has been preempted by $WMT and $TGT by offering longer hours, better product selection and lower prices. They are going the way of the neighborhood hardware store (driven under by $HD and $LOW). I still get my drugs from $CVS, but they are located inside my local Target, not a free standing store.
  • phgruver: $CVS is coming off a disappointing earnings report, but, after this selloff, they are sporting a 4.75% dividend! The divy is still well supported by earnings, and would appear to be safe. $XLV itself is coming off a low base. Unless you think the govt. is about to abolish the health care industry, this would appear to be a good place to start, or add to, a position.
  • wijimmy: @bigbartabs $COST .. Hate this place... but it makes $$$.....they make you feel like a criminal . ..1. You need show a membership card to get in the door !!!! 2. Once you get in the door and get to the register they check your card again to make sure you match the Picture on your card.... { if you don't match the picture they throw you out !!!} Now my favorite... you have to wait on another LINE to GET OUT !!!!! 3..At the EXIT door to leave... after you all ready PAID... they stop you to count the number of items in your cart to make sure it matches.. the items # you paid for on your receipt..... .. It's a long painful shopping experience...$CVS could be worse ,, everything there is locked up and you have to wait for the manager to unlock the shelf to couch medicine and vitamins...
  • bigbartabs: @wijimmy $COST $CVS ... Since it's a major price benefit over all other outlets... millions of people love it. And if the store has a gas station... all the better. Cheapest gas in town. What's not to like? By the way, they went to all the member card checking when freeloaders were not paying for memberships... rather borrowing their friend's. Can't argue with that decision. If you or I were the CEO... we would do the same.
  • phgruver: $CVS reported solid 4th qtr earnings, this morning. They reported an eps of $2.12/share, vs expectations of $1.99/share, on revenue of $93.81B vs expectations of $90.36B. This was an increase of 11.89% YOY. The fly in the ointment is that they lowered their guidance for 2024. Most of this is being blamed on rising Medicare costs.
  • PTinME: @phgruver $CVS Seems like CVS trades between 60 and 80 regardless. With about a 4 percent divy it seems like dead money. The flip side is they are never going outta business so it's virtually impossible to lose your shirt:)
  • phgruver: @PTinME $CVS This is one you have to "buy right." Long term, it's a pretty good hold with a reasonable dividend, but, you're not going to make a lot of money trading $CVS. (Actually, most of $XLV are slow movers.) Not for everyone, but for an income producing stock in a LT (retirement) account, it's a good stock to own, and probably a good place to buy. The recent high, Feb 2022, was $111.25, so we're near the bottom of a 3 year range.
  • Henry: @Ramsurya $CVS He posted that one on Friday in OMM
  • Ramsurya: @Henry $CVS - got it. Thank you Henry.
  • phgruver: $CVS is trading higher after they raised the guidance for FY24 and also raised their dividend from $.60 to $.665/qtr ($2.66/year). At today's price, that puts the yield at 3/7%. Along with healthcare, in general ($XLV) $CVS has been trading flat for over 6 months and is down about 30% on the year. With the 50dma and the 200dma about to cross, though, this may be one to consider in a long term, income oriented portfolio.
  • MongosPawn: $CVS Holding the 21 dma. Added.
  • MongosPawn: $CVS Earnings bounce. Starter taken.
  • DougL: $CVS hod - bullish engulfing daily
  • Timothyja38: $cvs has been moving higher over the last few days.
  • RiccardoB: $CVS long against $68. I play a 5-10% bounce .
  • scottrades: Some earnings to be aware of next week: $AAPL $SOFI $AMD $NCLH $UBER $SHOP $PFE $F $ON $AMC $SQ $CVS $YUM $ANET $QCOM $COIN $DKNG $ALB $CHKP $BP $BUD $DDOG $MRNA $ET $RCL $SEDG $ACMR $SMCI $MELI $GPN $SBUX $CNA $MGM $MAR $WBD $RIG $PK $MPC $FANG $EPD $NVO $PTON $STNG $FUBO $LNG $AMG $CAR $WEC $LYFT $LUMN
  • phgruver: Healthcare, $XLV, is holding support and showing promise. All my healthcare stocks, $ABBV, $BMY, $CVS, $PFE are looking good right here.
  • phgruver: @vcondry $LLY Healthcare, $XLV, in general is getting hammered. $BMY is my biggest looser, today, but $ABBV, $CVS, and $PFE are all down biggly. I can't find any news either, but there was a big run up going into the election, so maybe just a bit of profit taking, although down 4% to 5% seems a bit extreme for basic profit taking.....
  • vcondry: @phgruver $LLY $XLV $BMY $ABBV $CVS $PFE did find a report that early this morning some fake verified Twitter accounts including one for Lilly that was not legit said "Insulin is now Free" which got spread everywhere causing a big hit but other then that yes it seems pretty excessive for $JNJ $LLY etc Like I said its been a pretty decent buying opportunity before but who knows.
  • Justhanging48: Not a bad week, actually made some money. Have a great weekend all. Long $R, $CPRX, $CVS and $BTU
  • traderbren: $CVS - closed the upside gap this morning
  • Justhanging48: @traderbren $CVS With the good earnings and positive forecast, once this clears the 200dma speedbump at 100, should head up to the prior highs
  • traderdl: $CANO closing at high - $CVS potential acquirer as reported by Bloomberg. Big volume Nov 9 and 10 calls
  • phgruver: @traderbren $LLY Right now, in health care/pharma, ($XLV) I'm holding $ABBV, $BMY, $CVS and $PFE. All are doing OK, but I couldn't recommend buying or adding RHRN. Everything seems to be under pressure. Time to go do something else. It's a waste of time to sit here watching the market flounder.
  • traderdl: $CANO - $CVS or $HUM could pay $14 per share - Barrons - watching $9.50 break - no position
  • Docoof: #News $CVS says it will acquire $SGFY for $30.50 per share in cash. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/09/05/cvs-to-buy-home-health-giant-signify-health-for-about-8-billion.html
  • Docoof: ...
UnitedHealth Group Inc., Amazon.com Inc., CVS Health Corp. ($CVS) and Option Care Health Inc. ($OPCH) are vying to acquire Signify Health Inc. ($SGFY), according to people with knowledge of the matter.

UnitedHealth has submitted the highest b ...
  • setshot: @Docoof $ARKK $SGFY $UNH $AMZN $CVS $OPCH - Thanks for sharing. SGFY will be a good one to watch closely.
  • traderbren: $CVS - got way outside the 3rd Std dev BB. Pulling back, and likely to close the gap to the downside at 101.88
  • scottrades: Some #earnings for the week: $AMD $PYPL $DVN $ON $OXY $UBER $SOFI $CAT $BABA $AMC $BP $SQ $PINS $K $ABNB $JBLU $FANG $BLDR $MRO $DKNG $UAA $CROX $MRNA $DDOG $MPC $ARLP $ET $ATVI $SBUX $GPN $MOS $COP $WBD $CHKP $AMG $FUBO $LCID $MAR $LIND $CVS $RNGR $HOOD
  • debeers: FOR THE NEWBIES--The factor used to tell you how much money a stock is making is the Profit Margin. In healthcare, $CVS makes 2.66%, $CI makes 3.07%, $HUM makes 3.47%. Mine in the space is $UNH. Their profit margin is 6.02% that's why i own it now because they report in a couple of weeks and they have missed on earnings 0 times in 13 quarters.
  • Roadrunner: $CVS over the 50 d ma good vol
  • DAN: ...
    $CVS -- Flat base.
$BIIB -- Looking like it’s starting a move out of a short base.
  • Roadrunner: $CVS avg vol off of lower BB - up 2.7% - looks like selling done - might buy - would like to cover one of my Rx costs that doubled after my employer drug plan changed to this company (I know - no reason to trade a stock - trying to balance emotions with stock trade - lol)
  • bwcarnation1: @Roadrunner $CVS Try Goodrx...can't beat their prices. go to their site put in your rx and get several quotes around your area.
  • Roadrunner: @bwcarnation1 $CVS Thank you. I did try them for the first time and to my amazement they were more $$ but I found out it depends on when you get your Rx - so next time it may be less with GoodRx - their prices fluctuate when they have coupons. Still learning about them. Big pharma and Caremark do not want me on this med because it is in a natural form and not the big $ maker synthetic so they make me pay more. Express Scripts was 1/2 the cost and didn't give me grief like CVS, Caremark. It really matters what drug plan you are on as I am discovering tho there was no choice since it is employer sponsored.
  • woodman: $CVS weekly consolidation, triple bottom bounce.
  • scottrades: $CVS Sitting on the 50 Day.
  • traderbren: $CVS - starting to build the right side of the base, and clearing the 20d
  • phgruver: @wanda1616 $SNOW $MNDY $HUBS #Bullard Of my holdings, $CVS and $ENB are doing OK. Oddly enough, $HBAN is still up 4 cents....
  • traderbren: $CVS -- may look to revisit the 50d after breaking the 20d
  • scottrades: My notes: $SPY Nowhere to Hide. $QQQ Under the MAs $XLE Sill in trend. $GLD Broke a key support zone but closed above. #Crypto Biden to Regulate as a Matter of National Security: https://www.barrons.com/articles/white-house-executive-action-regulate-cryptos-national-security-51643312454 $TSLA Watch around the 200 Day $AMD Watch around the 200 Day. $TER Watch for a rebound trade. $AAPL Still prints money. Watch to see how it acts tomorrow. $MSFT Trying to base along the 200 Day $NVDA Same $APA Still above the MAs. $SU Above the MAs $XOM Above the MAs $CVE Flagging above the Mas $CVS Good volume
  • woodman: $CI, which I'm still holding, is still holding above the 50d, having a good day today among the mostly pulling back group. $CVS (no position) has been on a nice roll though this run is long in the tooth.
  • slp20: @woodman $CI $CVS As of 1/22 9 million Aetna members will be receiving $360 annually ($90/qtr.) to spend at CVS pharmacies. That’s a lot of dough.
  • woodman: @slp20 $CI $CVS - that sure is.

  • phgruver: In the Weekend Update, someone asked @Dan about $CVS. I happen to have a modest position in $CVS that I built up in 2019-2020. It wasn't immediately profitable, but never stopped me out. I am now up 50% on my position. Not bad, but what about RHR ...

  • Hemal: $CVS as per plan rest of my CVS holding across several accounts were hit with my sell limit of $89.87. First time in 21 years I own very little of this name.
