- manoli77: As you all know...Oil/Gas stocks have been on fire. I am holding $SM , $GEL and $EOG and am having a hard time determining when to start taking profits. The charts look parabolic. What exit strategy do you recommend? Thanks !
- cdmdave: @manoli77 $SM $GEL $EOG my stops would be set just below today's low of the day. Maybe sell half there or right now, why wait. Then would set stops at the weekly low to lock in profits.
- rverkamp: $GEL looking to start a position here. Any suggestions on stop or if this would be a good place to initiate a position for a swing trade?
- Mikev200: $GEL vol on close
- msing3: @Bridget $GEL Yes....and Thank you for pointing this one out.....nice run since last week !
- tgay442: Does anyone have a price target to take some profits on $GEL after this breakout?
- Bridget: @tgay442 $GEL I would take some profits here if you haven't already. Only holding a small portion of my position left.
- SamWB: $GEL This was brought up by @Bridget last week (some day I will learn about options!) and I got into it. It's really doing well today. Good looking chart and it pays a dividend for those who like that kind of thing.
- Bridget: @SamWB $GEL yep, doing really well. Up 200% on my Jul $10 calls.
- BocaRick: $GEL trying to hold $10???
- Bridget: $GEL $CVE $UNFI all had great set-ups that we were able to take advantage of at OMM to get in before the breakout. Buy near the 50dMA in the squeeze. Better than waiting to get in after the breakout.
- gtr89: @Bridget $GEL $CVE $UNFI I followed you into the $UNFI trade. Great call! (Pun intended)
- bRobert: @Bridget $GEL $CVE $UNFI Amen. Own the breakout
- msing3: @Bridget $GEL $CVE $UNFI $GEL......thanks for the call, couldn't get a complete fill today but will try again tomorrow .
- Bridget: $GEL another good set-up, getting ready to breakout. Tight squeeze with a rising 50dMA that has caught up.
- bRobert: @Bridget $GEL Your $WLL. trade killing it

Now that the 50MA is within the BB we see a breakout to new highs on decent volume today. Ex-div on 7/27 and ER on 7/28. Could likely see a drop after that but I see a nice steady uptrend since this bottomed in Feb.
- agent99: @Bridget $GEL This one looks interesting. I'll wait to see if it follows through in the morning.
- Bridget: @agent99 $GEL Also, $PAGP. saw some nice volume this week. About to see the 50 cross above the 200 on the daily.
- olveoyl: @Lou $ETE $SXL $GEL . Have you ever taken a look at these? (I am long both) for now anyways....
- Lou: @olveoyl $ETE $SXL $GEL - I've looked at $SXL but there is only so much room in my portfolio for energy related companies. It does look quite good. Not at all familiar with $GEL. My energy names are $ETE $ETP $EOG $FANG and now back in $CNX (via OMM trade and some fillips). Today you could throw a dart at energy names and have a winner. The ones I own I've been building for some time.

- mharps: OILS: In re: Dans notes tonight-Generally agree although stocks like $APA and $OXY look pretty interesting. Am long some interest oils which have rewarded: $TOT, $COP, $SDRL and $GEL
- dlylis: $GEL - A reasonably thinly traded issue that is in the pipeline business with fee based contracts. They announced a 10.7% increase in distribution with ex-date August 2. Price has been consolidating above the 200 and at the 50 which looked to me to be opportunity. Well, simultaneously they have been making a run at an oil barge company, and Einstein here did not connect the dots that, of course they don't have any money, since they pay it out in distributions, so they offer a secondary. Make that 24 hours after I add to my position to take advantage of price increase into ex date. Sometimes I think if I wasn't dumb, I'd be stupid.
- dlylis: $KMP - You cannot paint the $MLP space with the same broad brush. Some of the partnerships in exploration and production are obviously sensitive to commodity prices. Others in transportation and storage are sensitive to commodity prices based on cost and throughput. Others are fee based where they essentially *rent* the pipelines and storage facilities. Others have hybrid agreements. Having said that, look at $GEL which is a conservative fee based $MLP that has been caught in the vortex of the big flush. $GEL *should* be going up!
- dlylis: $AAPL - Calla, I bailed on the position minutes after. Bad timing, but I want to see this settle out a bit first. I am reopening positions in MLPs like $EVEP, LINE, $GEL, KMP. These guys are real steady eddies in times like this.

I did hold the line on everything oil and energy related; $GEL, NGLS, LINE, $APA, $CCJ, but closed out my $PBR Apr 40 calls which I reopened after enjoying some nice profits last week. That trade will come back around to me, I do believe, so I am g ... - taylor: $CMG - geez, it's just a restaurant. I'm not chasing any high multiple, high momentum stocks in this market. I find it easier to make 10% on a $20 stock than a $200 stock. You could have done better percentage-wise in $HL SOL $BLT $BLX $MMR $AEO CML $CAB $CDE $BAK $SLV $SIVR $GEL WBD $SLW HS $UAL over the last three months. These have had clearly defined uptrends as well.
- dlylis: $KMP - That is true, however, look at $GEL, a much smaller company who's revenue is almost entirely contract fee based. LINE and $EVEP are commodity sensitive. It's the old "rising tide".
- dlylis: @Henry - If $CQP is an $MLP (and I am pretty sure it is although I am not as familiar with it as others) and owns hard assets, (pipelines, storage tanks, exploration equipment, etc) then the distribution is largely ROC. I may not be entirely accura ...
- dlylis: LINE, $EVEP - I don't really know anything about $TCAP, however, you should be aware, if you are not already, that LINE and $EVEP are correlated to commodity prices. Weak oil means weak price. I would wait for LINE to drop below 28 and $EVEP below 34. There are MLPs that essentially lease their capacity for a fee and are therefore less correlated to commodity prices. That does not mean, however, that in a downdraft like this that everything gets sold off, fee based or not. Look at $GEL and $KMP for example. There is a price in a more conservative approach in that the yield is lower.
- upperright: dlylis:KMP $GEL - Thanks for the tip on MLPs. Looks like $KMP is at a really good entry. As you said, yield is lower, but so is the risk. Much appreciated!
- dlylis: MLPs -- LINE, NGLS, RGNC, $EVEP, $GEL, $EPD, $ERF, $ETP, $MMP, KMP. I boost yield a bit with $NLY and $PSEC, and I include utilities $SO, $WR, $DUK, for stability, I have added $HCN as a REIT to the $NLY and PSEC. Currently I am out of telecom. I ...

If you look at the 'cousins' of $PWE (EVEP, $GEL, $PGH, NGLS), for example) You will see that that behavior is not limited to PWE. $NLY reported earnings yesterday so although it behaved the same it was for a different reason. The oil related stoc ... -

As well I am in $SO, $GEL, $MO, $EVEP, $NLY, $WR and LINE as I am building a #dividend portfolio. These fairly substantial positions and are there for the long haul, and I am queuing up others to ad when the price is more favorable.
The good new ... - dlylis: LINE Indeed. LINE is commodity sensitive and has hedged. Take a look at $GEL which is fee based revenue. Not as good a div but lower risk hold.
- dlylis: LINE I am in LINE as well but not as a trade. LINE revenue is correlated to commodity prices and is likely to be a little more volatile than others. Frankly, I was surprised that LINE struggled a little this morning with oil prices as they are. You may want to look at $GEL as well. $GEL revenue is primarily fee based and not as volatile. 7% +/- yield.
- dlylis: LINE I don't get it, but I think these energy related MLPs are getting slammed by association. These are pipeline companies and are not necessarily sensitive to commodity prices. Many of them operate on fee based long term contracts, so this doubly makes no sense. I have fastened my seatbelt, raised and locked my tray table, and am along for the ride. I am in $EVEP, $GEL, and $MMP as well

It's as if there is a kind of rotation going on within the industry group. The highest volume O&G Pipeline companies (EP, $WMB, SE) have really sold down hard and are making higher lows now.
