I’m seeing something interesting playing out. While the $SPY is looking a bit frisky and holding up well, the midcap ($MDY) and smallcap ($IWM) indexes are not. Between Monday and Tuesday, they both gapped up on Monday morning, sold off with ... - dgrobo: $SPY $ibit Just now on CNBC, Tom Lee called SPY $5500 (up 4%) by end of June. Also called bitcoin $150,000 by end of year. He cites decelerating inflation, particularly in housing and car insurance. Thinks fed raises are off the table, maybe a cut or so to keep business cycle and stocks supported. Re bitcoin, cited the halving, institutional money going into etf's, and larger nubmer of wallets.

- bigbartabs: @kenb $SPY ... SP500 has been a great trading platform, especially using the derivatives 1x SPY, 3x ETF $SPXL The same with the other 3 major index 3x ETFs... $UDOW $TQQQ $TNA. With patience waiting for the best possible index levels to buy and sell... the confidence is higher to really pile in, compared to single tickers. The risk is low of making a big mistake... when patiently waiting for the best index buy and sell points. Very small, compared to trading individual tickers... especially over night shocks. I would never put the amount of money into the market with a single ticker, that I can put in with patient well thought index derivative trades. FWIW...

- southernmum: $SPY question I am 66 yo. A large amount of my LT portfolio is in SPY. Recently I cringed as it dropped so far and I couldn’t buy more at a much lower price. Is it better to sell some when it is high like it is now to possibly rebuy lower or just hold? I would appreciate your input please.
- Pard: @southernmum $SPY Long term hold means you only sell some when you need the cash to pay some bills or spend on something you want. Hold and buy more if you have available funds, whenever the SPY is relatively cheaper than it was before. determine that by looking at a weekly chart, buy more when it is close to the 50 week moving average and hold. The only question is what to do if the 50 week moving average is broken. Do you exit some or all of the position or just hold? If you are a long term holder, just hold. So long as the world continues to exist, the SPY will go up over time. IMHO
- PhilHarmonic: @southernmum $SPY Long term you will make more Holding SPY then trading SPY. If you sell it at a high point it could go up much higher and you would lose out on the gains. When you buy back at a lower price it could go much lower and you will accumulate losses.

If we don't get more strength into the close, I'll probably drop out to flatter positions for the weekend.

- woodman: I'm still holding a fairly high percentage of cash in my trading account. This is a market that offers little to do unless you're a day trader (which I am not). $SPY and $QQQ under the 50d and grinding around after rolling over at the 50d last week. Not enticing. Other than looking for opportunities to add in my intermediate-longer term holds and my longer duration swings that have nice charts, I'm not really doing anything.
