In summary, historically -- again... historically -- after a 3-5% sell-off in gold, 21-28 days later, price is higher. There is less historical data on moves greater than 7%, and while price is generally higher, further selling probability is higher until round number -- think 4000 in gold -- levels bring in dip buyers. You might reduce your overall exposure to weather the storm and prepare to accept a smaller loss vs. a bigger gain if price bounces back.

- djgustoso: #markets pretty ugly day especially for all th high flyers. I got stopped out of many of my winners, but used the opportunity to add some more $OKLO. I also went short on $RGTI via puts, and added to the strength on $GDX. Hope to see a better looking day tomorrow!
- woodman: @djgustoso $OKLO $RGTI $GDX #markets - I ended up selling $RGTI twhen it hit the overhead VWAP in the early afternoon and deflected down. VWAP was serving as resistance before that and simply extended the pattern. The bad action in all the other quantum computing stocks was a further signal that I did indeed need to sell. Only $BTQ was green today, and even that one gave back a lot of its move higher. Rough day all the way around except for precious metals.

- phgruver: @djgustoso $GLD $GDX It's a fool's errand to try to call a top, you know that.... Admittedly, $GDX is extended. It has been running the upper Bollenger Band since the first of August. So far, today, it's printing a tombstone doji, but on below average volume. That may mean nothing ..., or it could be a turning point. We'll know in hindsight. I would not initiate a long, nor add to a long RHRN. If I was already long, I would probably hold on loosely, maybe even take some off. Caution is warranted!

I suppose, if you had bought and held gold, for all the years he's been pounding the table on it, you'd have done pretty well. That's not trading, though, that's buy and hold long term investing. We're traders, trying to generate cash flow, and we only make money when we sell something. Frustrating, sometimes.....

The are tracking above the 8-day exponential moving average, which is a pretty good benchmark for gauging the strength of an uptrend. When you let the good ones run, those profits will outweigh the small losses you inevitably take. Make sure your average gains are larger than your average losses. And NEVER allow a loss to get out of hand. --Dan

The fund normally invests at least 80% of its total assets in common stocks and American depositary receipts ("ADRs") of companies involved in the gold mining industry. Such companies may include medium-capitalization companies and foreign issuers. As of December 31, 2012, the Gold Miners Index included 29 securities of companies with a market capitalization range of between approximately $209 million and $35.0 billion and a weighted average market capitalization of $14.5 billion. It is non-diversified.
