- StockMarketMentor: Watch the Homies. Mortgage rates are the lowest they've been in a while, and we've got a Fed meeting coming up. In light of the employment numbers, I think it's actually a possibility that the Fed will cut .50bps. Since the labor market is now obviously deteriorating, I suspect that Powell will want to be accused of being only a little too late rather than a lot too late. I'd be watching stocks like $XHB $NAIL $DJUSHB $LEN $DHI $PHM $TOL etc. They are moving nicely -- a bit extended to warrant buying right here b/c many are bumping up against their recent highs. But I do think they are going higher. Just musing. Dan -Dan

- StockMarketMentor: $HOV reported earnings this morning and the stock is down 7.67% at 137.54 -- below the 139.25 suggested stop area. The stock gapped up at the open to $152 on light volume and then went south. It's rebounding a bit now and back to $139. The company cited uncertainty across global, political and economic fronts that is weighing on consumer sentiment. Their revenue increased, but earnings fell dramatically -- $1.99/share vs. $9.75 a year earlier. That's a big deal. This is now off the list. Beware the other homebuilding stocks. To manage risk, I'm taking all of them off the list -- $NAIL $XHB $LEN (And $HOV). In a very uncertain environment, it's best to stand aside than ride it down. Remember: Risk first! --Dan

- StockMarketMentor: Adding Lennar ($LEN) to the ATI List I have been saying that Lennar is dead to me until it crosses the 200-day moving average. Well, it blew through that today. While the stock is up 5.5% today, I can manage the risk of an entry here by keeping a stop just below today's open at around $124.90. If the stock completely retraces today's intraday move, then this trade is a bust. What are the chances of that happening? Slim to none. Basis: 131.19 Suggested stop: 124.90 This joins several other homebuilding issues on the ATI list, all of which are doing well. --Dan

Will it affect Luxury builder $TOL? Maybe not maybe so depending on stock market conditions. - DavidG: @Cheezit $LEN I bought about a double position of $XHB on Feb 5 and it's up about 13% since that purchase date. I want to hold this long term anticipating interest rate drops over the next 12-18 months. I did not want to worry about individual company earnings surprises or disappointments necessitating closing an individual housing stock just before earnings. I wanted something that I wouldn't have to watch day to day. ( I think Dan calls this wall paper investment). During this period of time my $XHB has gone up about 13% while $LEN has only risen 8.8%. I'll stick with the index.
