  • woodman: Updated #Software-Application stocks of interest (and this is just a surface scratching of this particular area and I haven't even looked at Software-Infrastructure yet): $USER $EVBG $LSPD $EMBK $BILL $PAR $EGHT $MTTR $ZI $ZEN $PYCR $DOMO $RPD $FRSH $CDNS $VMEO $DUOL $IDEX $STNE $MAPS $LPSN $CRM $ESTC $CXM $TEAM $MOGO $DOCU $BTRS $ADSK $EGAN $DDOG $ACVA. Or if you'd rather one-stop etf shopping, there's $CLOU (and $CLDL which is a 2x). And of course $ARKK which gives you software and biotech, primarily.
  • spmeyers: $PAR has broken a long down-trending channel to the upside; see 1-yr chart
  • Wykeman: $PAR another to watch..
  • Aragorn: $DECK - Ellen that 75 number i posted was in play. Here is a suggestion put the $PAR SAR on your charts. On a 5 min chart it switched from a long to a short at the 1:45 candle. So Pay attention to it there as a warning that things are changing. If something is moving and you have decent profit and really want to protect go down to a 3 min chart and even a one to get it close. Play with it and see if you"Likee"
  • Aragorn: $DDD - Maybe a short term top. It is meeting resistance at he 50 and sold off intraday after hitting hte top. I will be watching on Monday for direction, either way it is a very good day trading stock with an $ATR of 5.20, there plenty of opportun ...
  • Aragorn: $CLDX 3 min chart is what I ma operating on trades today and the $PAR SAR is 30.61 on a 3 and the 8 is 30.62. $PAR SAR a good way to keep you in stocks that are running. The $PAR SAR on a one swithced ot a short. Too short a time frame, but it is good if you really want to protect close ASk me over the weekend if you want more info on $PAR SAR and how I use it
  • jmat2413: @Aragorn - I would like very much to read how you use $PAR SAR. Thanks.
  • Aragorn: $RGR - nice trade @Ginny - the first 5 minute high took a while to be taken out my entry would have been 82.01 and add on an inside 5 and up at 10:15 and use $PAR SAR to get me out on a 5 min chart at 83.50. That is how using my strat I would have traded it had I traded it.I use the first 5 minutes to establish a high and enter above that. Low risk entry, as it either starts moving up after it takes it out or I am out.
  • Aragorn: $VJET - one can use the 8ema on an hourly chart to help you stay in. If ti closes below that then maybe you sell 1/2 your position. This would have kept you in even through the pukeage and recovery because it is based on the close. $PAR SAR another method one can use to help keep you in at trade but that would have gotten you stopped out in this circumstance.
  • Aragorn: FB- @flyfishn the stop goes below the inside bar. If it breaks that I am out on the initial entry - after tha when the next 5 min bar you can use the low of that pr $PAR SAR or some other voodoo method. But that is how I start. That is what my strat calls fro
  • Jorma: $CLDX - I sold my position at 20.37, it has not been this far above the 8d ma ever, and trend change present on $PAR SAR. I will look to buy back around 17.50 to 18. This has been a nice trade, perhaps it will be for me again.
  • Aragorn: $CLDX - use $PAR SAR on the hourly or use the 8ema on a 5/15 depending on your profits and your willingness to hold this dowb on the PArSar for the hourly. Just how I am trading this
  • Aragorn: $CLDX - down to VWAP watch and see if it breaks 16.58 - already a character change as it has broken the 8ema on a 5 and $PAR SAR has flipped to a short.
  • Aragorn: $DSX - The $PAR SAR - Parobolic Stop and Reverse kicked in as well as a move below the 8ema on a 5. When day trading a stock that is making a move like this, and it breaks the fast moving avg 8ema that is your signal to exit your long or lighten up. Ina addition the PAr $SAR switched from a long to a short. Again this is for daytrading only. It will help preserve your profits

  • iamsaad: #Cramer is a TURNED LEAF by perception, and community leader for the markets laymen herd. I do follow #Cramer for market sentiment is the truth. I think his content is actually pretty awesome. As far as intelligence goes, he's INCREDIBLY SMART...he has an very empirical sense of how the Markets/Stocks & Big Money all work in relation. But like I said, he's a TURNED LEAF It's a known fact that #Cramer has a strong manipulative side to him as this video so clearly SHOWS ? ? ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMShFx5rThI This video is GOLD!! Fully exposes his MANIPULATIVE UNDERSTANDING OF HOW MANY MONEY MANAGERS OPERATE. LETS FACE IT! THIS IS $PAR FOR THE COURSE
  • Henry: ...
We also discussed 3 stocks, one of which was $PAR, all of which were being taken over and trading on light volume and very severe squeezes.

I never thought of it in that light before. @Dan would say you should know something about the company ra ...
  • John.C: $APC - VS's: I prefer to go with the 6%. But what do you do with those less than say 1% - $PAR AMPH ACAP for instance? John Edited on Oct 17, 2010 12:48 Edited on Oct 17, 2010 12:49
  • Henry: $PAR AMPH ACAP takeovers judging by the volume and price action. My take is the same as #Cramer's "we are not arbitrageurs", move along folks there's nothing to see here.
  • John.C: $PAR AMPH ACAP takeovers --- @Henry, do you have suggestion for a lower percentage cut off? John
  • jojo1480: ...
The importance of the storage market was highlighted this week by Hewlett-Packard Co.'s (HPQ:$40.26,00$0.5800,1.46%) $2.4 billion deal to buy data-storage firm 3Par Inc. (PAR:$32.895000,$0.014999,0.05%) after a bruising bidding war with Dell Inc. (D ...
  • cking7575: $CRUS woohoo- off the $PAR news, added this AM Draonfly- keeping an eye on $BRCD as well it's stuttering right now No position yet
  • john55: $PAR - $HP wins bid for 3PAR at $33.
  • Junior: $PAR - calendar spread - I think this should be looked at. I was able to sell the Sep30 Calls for 2.10 and buy the Oct30 Calls for 2.15 Total cost of trade is a 0.05 Here's my thought process, which I hope will get some comments: If the deal goes through at 30, the Sep 30's will be go to zero at expiration and there will still be time value in the Octobers. TOS Risk Profile shows this to be a better than 10:1 payout, including commissions. I have an order in for the 32.5 and the 27.5 spreads, though I'd be surprised if they go through for net 0.05.
  • debrup: NZ , $CVLT - NZ might be a 59 min candidate, +20% gap, $CVLT opening above 24.40 resistance, remember $CVLT ISNL and CML all reacting to $PAR bids
  • john55: $PAR - Must be an arbitrager's dream. $HP raises bid to $30. Getting ridiculous.
  • H: $PAR i wold like to now what is in $PAR more than any other storage company make the big companies fighting over it. is any one knows?
  • Junior: $PAR - calendar spreads look enticing here. I sure would appreciate some input from the #options experts here. I see that October calls are very close in cost to Septembers. Thanks for any help
  • jojo1480: CML CVLT ISLN- merger mania speculation, from a Barron's soapbox article these are the remaining (3) cos that may be the next target once $PAR is absorbed by DELL/HPQ. I rather place my bet on $NTAP, EMC's market cap is to big (w/o VMW). FWIW. long $EMC (investment long since ~7/share, slow mover, if you want to trade do it with NTAP).
  • jasper: $PAR - Junior - You can go all the way to Jan of next year. Why? Do you feel a better bid is coming? If you do, more days for the same money looks good. Seems like a waste of mental capital playing the HOPE that a higher bid comes in. That's why God invented RiskArbs.
  • Junior: $PAR - jasper - My question has more to do with the oddity that the prices for all months are so close together. Will this remain or will the spreads grow?
  • debrup: $PAR - $H - Par has a storage architecture to store data more efficiently on a server where you can have different data shared on one server instead of certain data on one server only. this makes the use of servers more efficient. Easier to maintain and therefor more cost efficient all together then other systems. i.e. it is a better mousetrap.
  • Junior: $PAR - for one thing, I don't see how one would get crushed if the trade only costs commissions. But my question remains... The Sept 30 calls are very near par (2.50 and $PAR is at 32.40). And Dec 30 Calls are at the same. Should the take over happen at 30, will the Dec calls then get premium?
  • jasper: $PAR - Junior - I'm thinking the prices are close to the same since the market doesn't see a premium to going out in time. A done deal more or less.
  • jasper: $PAR - Junior - If the takeout gets executed @ $30 and you have paid $2.50 for the right to buy @ $30 all you are out is the $2.50 premium you paid plus the $30 per share takeout price.
  • john55: $PAR - I think the time premium for the longer dated calls has been sucked out. I guess if they rejected all the offers there might be some premium, but that's not going to happen. I guess there's still some demand for the higher strikes because of the possibility of increasing bids for the company.
  • Junior: $PAR - jasper - yes, sell the near term 30's, collect the 2.50 and what happens to the Oct and Dec 30's... still some premium in them?
  • jasper: $PAR - Junior - This is the first post where you mentioned "sell" the call #options. I assumed, as it looks like others who answered your question, that you were looking to "buy" the call #options @ $2.50. As long as you're sitting on the physical shares of stock. My bad.
  • Junior: $PAR - yeah, my original post was asking about a calendar spread ( sell near month, buy further out, same strike)
  • nasada: cking7575...FAZ has been up a ton the past 2 weeks. I bought the Sept 14 Calls when they were out of the $. Needless to say it's about the only thing other than $POT, $PAR, and $CRM, that is up in my portfolio lately. It moves fast, so be nimble if you trade this one.
  • freddy77: $PAR, $HPQ, $DELL More good news on M&A front (bullish!) as Dell had bid $18 a share in an effort to buy 3Par and $HPQ has swooped in and offered $24 a share. An auction appears to be heating up for this company. No need for financing by $HPQ, appears to be straight cash. Freddy
  • Burt H: $PAR HP upped the anty to 24 per share from 18 so the stock has moved from 10 to 24 in 1 week Anyone out there familiar with the sector to have a good idea in addition to $EMC who could benefit from this offer
  • debrup: $PAR Burt, $PAR had a special technology to store data more efficient, it is the Technology that $HPQ and Dell are after. so no direct alternative. But names in the sector include $XRTX CML ISLN HILL $LSI and bigger players like $NTAP and $EMC in the Data storage sector. CML looks like breaking above 14, interesting. Also worth a look are data warehousing stocks NZ and TDC.
  • sgr606: CML - up on $PAR buyout.
  • didactic: Bank Preferred Stocks I'm holding Trust preferred Securities My understanding is that many of these banks will be purchasing these at $PAR as Finreg is dictating that they will not be counted as assets to the banks Is your take similar??
  • Dannomon: $PAR - Moved up to where $DELL has offered to buy it (over 85% premium). This has $EMC a little on the ropes but definitely not out.
  • Darce: $STX - dlylis. Just as a matter of context, $STX didn't do too badly last week compared to other data storage stocks such as ADPT, $EMC, $HTCH, $NTAP, $PAR, $QTM, $STEC and XRTX. $WDC did a bit better, but it has a similar pattern on the daily charts, so it's not an issue with $STX itself, I think. Watch the segment as context.
  • debrup: $RVBD CTXS $VMW been adding on all as i see bull flags, also added to $PAR and NETL All stocks in the cloud-computing space and web2.0. I have stops just under the flags on partial only as I like the fundamental story here.
  • tmjska: $PAR (storage, cloud,...)- poking it's nose up after a correciton. short interest is HUGE. Has some resistance above but something to watch. Could be a good time to add/buy. Long $PAR
  • DAN: ...
I'm still doing quite a bit of research (fundamental [be still, my heart!] as well as technical), but initial names include $PAR, $RVBD, $RAX, TMRK and $CRM (as well as the stocks we've been focusing on in our data storage spotlight). Certainly not ...
  • dmooney9: Cash advice was good @Dan. I'm there now but it hurt a little. Stopped on $HE of course. Also $PAR and $MRGE that looked like breakouts in a normal market. Thank you. Ps is there an inverse fund covering the $MDR type companies?
  • dmooney9: $PAR MRGE looking at both of these with alerts at $12.80 52 week high for $PAR $4.74 yesterdays high for $MRGE which is 52 week high, both are 50% insider owned, $MRGE had very high volume yesterday, $PAR coming out of volatility expansion. Sorry to mix up both in same dialog. Edit- my $PAR buy point of $12.80 reached and bought in
  • imortalz: RIMM, APPL depending on your conviction here's my plan. I like APPL longer term. (as it converges to the 200DMA) the same reason we like RIMM. What ever your conviction and if you need to have a position you can sell the call as you purchase. Feb #options expire next week. Ex. $AAPL, 97.00 Feb 100's @ 1.70. New price of your APPL 95.30 and only till next Friday to think and ponder. If it moves to $PAR you make 4.7 points. If it falls to 90 at least your at 95.3 vs. 97.00. After next week if still holding the Bag, APPL at 90 (50 DMA) March 95's @ 7.00 (New price (95.30-7.00) 88.70 or the 100's at 5.00 (90.30) .
  • Bob: $PAR -- URANIUM Check out USU. Company recovers uranium from military weapons, etc. I took some profits a while back. Looking at the chart and starting to like it again. Good going on CCJ. I wish I could get past the emotional distrust I have for that company. It's there even though I've made a good percentage from it in the past.
