  • jvee: @grcjr $ORC $OXLC #yieldhogs Just a quick look at Stockcharts shows negative earnings for both companies and dividend payouts. Also dividends are dropping for both and also for NLY. NLY and OXC are not ranked in IBD and have a composite ratio of 50 and 49. What makes either of these companies attractive? Why not the #1 ranked stock in that category with a composite ratio of 93---ABR? It's paying increasing dividends.

  • rnrdallas1939: I have noticed a few posts about #YEILDHOGS so I thought I would post the last list that jan2138 posted on the SMM website. I have culled a few that are no longer listed or dropped the div . $AGNC $AI $ARCC $BCFS $CIM $CLNY $CNSL $LUMN (was CTL) $DX $ERN $ETJ $ETW $ETY $EXG $GSBD $HRZN $IVR $LADR $MAIN $MRCC $NEWT $NLY $NMFC $NRE $NRZ $NYMT $NYMTO $OFS $OXLC $OXSQ $PNNT $PSEC $SAR $TCPC $$TPVG $TSVG $TWO $UNIT $UTF $VGR I have others, that I use, but this was jan2138 list. It went ex- a dividend of 0.34 today, and continues to pay out north of 12 percent. I will admit that the folks at the fund whose portfolio manager first mentioned the ticker to me refer to it as "(S)inking (F)ast", but that isn't fair on most days. The outfit continues to own quite a lot of shares. Here's hoping that you're doing well; all the best!

  • grcjr: $OXLC - bottom fishing for a tracking position (very small)
  • champ: @issues $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OXLC $AGNC --- $CVX, the CEO said on CNBC, that they were Not going to cut their Dividend, I think he said that yesterday. They can't cut it now or everyone would sue them. I'm now holding a position.
  • Margi1983: @issues $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OXLC $AGNC I am holding $GSBD $MAIN and $UTF. Not too thrilled with results these past 2 months. Sold many others on Feb 20-26 to fund my retirement annuity
  • issues: For you hog farmers! Do you know which of your hogs have cut their dividend? Dana used to keep us appraised of them but I'm not sure which are good to hold - at this point. We are still holding these with the dividend shown on Ameritrade: $OFS (35%) $ARCC (16%) $TSLX(12%) $MAIN (13%) $MPW (7%) $NRZ (4.5%) $CIM (25%) $MRCC (22%) $NLY (22%) $OCSI (11%) $OXLC (42%) (and also we have no position in $AGNC). Obviously OXLC won't be paying 42% so they (along with the rest) will probably have to cut their dividend. We are still holding all except AGNC = NP
  • issues: @champ $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OXLC $AGNC $CVX Thanks for your post Champ. I picked up a starter position in CVX. Thank you!
  • phgruver: @issues $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OCSI $OXLC $AGNC That will take a bit of research, and the data, at this time, is unreliable. Last quarters projections will have little validity next quarter. Many of the #Yield_hogs are vulnerable to loan forbearance. If small businesses and mortgagees are given a couple months holiday from making payments, these businesses won't be able to make their payments either. I suspect that most of them will choose to suspend the dividend for a quarter, or maybe two, rather than actually cut it, though, because when cash flow returns to normal, their ability to pay dividends will also return to normal. I'm just holding. I don't think any of the ones I own are in danger of going Chapter 11....
  • issues: @phgruver $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OCSI $OXLC $AGNC #Yield_hogs Thanks Dr Phgruver. Which ones are you still holding?
  • phgruver: @issues $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OCSI $OXLC $AGNC #Yield_hogs For various reasons and in various accounts, some of which predate SMM, $NLY (my oldest holding), $NRZ, $NEWT, $ARCC, $MAIN, and, against Dana's advise, $CLNY. All put together, though, they don't represent 5% of my holdings, even before this disruption.

  • phgruver: @issues $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OCSI $OXLC $AGNC $NEWT $MAIN $CLNY #Yield_hogs I learned a lot from Dana, but I didn't learn THAT much. I am trying to keep up with the ones I'm invested in, but Dana had a long list that he reviewed each quarter. That's a lot of work!
  • msing3: @issues $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OCSI $OXLC $AGNC $NEWT $MAIN $CLNY #Yield_hogs Issues thanks for your original question, I have been wondering if now is a good time to place some yield hogs in a LT portfolio ? Should we wait and look for a solvent YH that did cut or suspend their dividend so that is baked into the current price ? Leaning toward adding NLY, CFRA reiterated a buy on NLY on 3/30 with a price target of $8. Knowing very little specs on these YH it does look enticing.
  • mulligan: @issues $OFS $ARCC $TSLX $MPW $NRZ $CIM $MRCC $NLY $OCSI $OXLC $AGNC The following yield hogs have paid their full dividend this month $TCPC $GPM $HTGC $HRZN $LADR $NEWT $TPVG . $WHF is due to pay today - waiting for it to show in my account. $NRZ cut their dividend from .50 down to .05 due to margin calls impacting liquidity. None of those I listed that have paid already have indicated what they intend to do next quarter... we'll see.

  • stairm01: $OXLC A jan2138 yield hog. According to Fidelity, OXLC no longer pays a dividend. The OXLC site stated a couple weeks ago that the dividend would be paid for April, May and June. Not sure if all of this has changed since the big drop in share price.
  • shoredriver: @stairm01 $OXLC ...either way I think some of them are going to be struggling going forward.....
  • jbuc5222: @stairm01 $OXLC - I would not rely on the Fidelity website. Look at the Oxford Lane website under Investor Relations for any announcements. It is typical for OXLC and others to announce three months in advance their dividend distributions.
  • grcjr: #YH - with the market down almost everywhere I've closed a number of positions. In additions I have started looking for support to come to the #YHs. I believe it will take quite some time. To me the primary question is whether they will be able to pay the dividends at the current level. I see no reason to believe that they would not be immune. In additions, I am trying to decide whether to trim some of my #YH positions. At this time: $GSBD down 2% $HRZN down 6% $LADR down 6.6% $MAIN down 3% $MITT down 2.2% $NEWT down 5.33% $NLY down 3.5% $NRZ down 3.8% $OXLC down 5.2% $SAR down 6.2% $TCPC down 2.9% $TWO down 3% $WHF down 2% $WMC down 3.5% and more
  • Henry: @grcjr $OXLC #YH they must be confused because the the monthly dividend payments. They afe paying .135 monthly Apr-June http://ir.oxfordlanecapital.com/file/Index?KeyFile=402631202
  • grcjr: $OXLC #YH - this ticker is one that #jan2138 would point out is highly Spec. The $OXLC web shows they are still paying out the same dividend. One shows a cut in the div. I'll continue to investigate.
  • grcjr: @Henry $OXLC #YH - yes on the Oxford investor web all is well. Also the Nasdaq and dividend.com
  • grcjr: @Henry $OXLC #YH - If you go to fidelity.com, click Research, see OXLC, then Distributions, you see dividend numbers by quarter. But it is only reporting Divs that have gone xdiv. For Q1, there have been two.
  • grcjr: $OXLC #YH - this very high risk, 17.8% high yield hog went xdiv on 2/13. It appears to have finished the adjustment down. I added a nibble.
  • stairm01: @wijimmy $HRZN Yippee! And $NEWT is bouncing after a pullback. It's up $0.80 (3.7%). I've been holding and added to both yesterday. $OXLC and $AGNC are also holders of mine and have been really moving nicely.
  • wijimmy: @stairm01 $HRZN $NEWT $OXLC $AGNC .. I have positions in those also in my Old Man income account... which is doing very well today also...
  • stairm01: $NEWT $OXLC A couple yield hogs making nice moves this morning. NEWT has had a pullback and is presenting a nibble point here at 20.50. OXLC announced net asset value and selected financial results for the 3rd fiscal quarter and declared distributions on common stock for months ending April 31 and May 31. I added to both this morning.
  • Wolf: @grcjr $OXLC #YH This one has caused me too much pain. Between the Div and loss, I am about break even. I lightened up alot @ 9.38. Will watch for a point to add it back.
  • grcjr: $OXLC #YH - this hog next goes xdiv on Feb 13. A potentially very high risk 17.98% annual yield. I added a nibble to my modest position this past month.

  • bknpdx: @jan2138 $OXLC $AINV Thank you @jan2138. Great information, and I appreciate the details in all of your posts. Have a wonderful day, and a prosperous year! Bill.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC With the 19.15% yield, yield starved buyers are taking this one up over the last 4-5 sessions. The yield has dropped to "only" 19.15% with the current move up. I am not a buyer of this on although I am long a small tracking piece.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC This one is surprising me. Up almost 2% today on heavy volume for it. Let's hope these folks will spill over and buy some of the other high yield issues we like.
  • SteveW: @jan2138 $OXLC Thank you for your posts. I bought some yesterday. I also bought $WHF back on Dec 24 after reading and researching what you said. Take Care.
  • jan2138: @SteveW $OXLC $WHF Just so you know what you are getting in to with $OXLC.
  • jan2138: @SteveW $OXLC $WHF $WHF is working for you so far. Looks like a good entry.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC This really high yielder (19.54%) has been consolidating since it stopped pulling back when it went ex on 11/14/19. The 12/17/19 ex date had little effect on the consolidation pattern. Dividends have been declared for 1,2, and 3/2020 with the next ex-date coming on 1/16/20. The BB's got really tight on 12/16/19 but the VS has yet to resolve. The yield is 19.54 %. If you have a very high risk tolerance and can sleep at night with a ticker like this in your portfolio, you might consider this one with a nibble now and a nibble after you see how it behaves on 1/16/20 when it goes ex again. If you want more info., check my post back on 11/1/19. Note the trend of NAV.
  • Ajax4Hire: @jan2138 $OXLC uuuggg, below $10 and in the penalty box chart-wise. Yes, $0.135/month/share * 12months/year * 1share/$8.28 = 19.54% APR My bet is $OXLC will next go to a variable payout to mitigate their slow slide in liquidity and value. For example, look at: $AI - Arlington Asset Investment Corp. Also a very high APR with monthly dividend. I owned $AI for a year watching dividend cover the value lost. I will not be seduced by the easy Dividend again, Beware. $OXLC Dividend: $0.135/share/month http://ir.oxfordlanecapital.com/file/Index?KeyFile=400744526 Monthly dividend payment.
  • jan2138: @Ajax4Hire $OXLC Yes, that's why I suggested one needs a high tolerance for risk. The portfolio is almost entirely CLO's and the levels for NAV can vary significantly based on the estimates during the year. The proof in the pudding comes at the end of the year when they prepare the tax return. Then, we get the real numbers. They could be much better than the estimates and worse too. All why the yield is almost 20%.
  • bknpdx: @jan2138 $OXLC Hi @jan2138. @yieldhogs Happy New Year. This year I am seeking to apportion a part of my portfolio in dividend yielding stocks. What do you think of $AINV Apollo Investment Corp. (see daily chart) and is affiliated with Apollo Global Management (not sure what the affiliation is). This stock has a 10.2% dividend yield and the fundamentals look good with stable earnings. Also, does @yieldhogs post a list of companies with decent yields / risks?
  • jan2138: @bknpdx $OXLC $AINV Happy New Year to you. $AINV is not one I follow so I do not have a history of their fundamentals. I took a quick look at their website and went to the dividend history information. They have been paying .45 quarterly dividend fo ...

  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC This high risk issue has had 2 nice moves up in the last 2 sessions. The yield rhrn is 15.40%. Distributions have been declared through September. Unfortunately, this one is rather difficult to pin down as its portfolio consists of mostly CLO's which are a different breed. I am long a small tracking position and have considered adding but, to date, I am still considering. I should have acted back in the end of June. It goes ex on 7/23/19 which might become an opportunity. It's one only for those with a high tolerance for risk, i.e. pain.
  • jan2138: @mepcc1 #HOGS All the ones I really like do not appear to be at buy points now. And, in this market, it's not a good idea to gamble. I did buy some $LADR on the 8th, and it fell even more. I put in another bid at the low and just missed it. It's up over 1% today, but I am waiting 'til Monday before I do anything. I am watching $HTGC which I sold before it went ex with the intent to buying it back. It's not quite where I want it to be yet. I think you could consider $TSLX which I am. I was even thinking about $OXLC.
  • mepcc1: @jan2138 $LADR $HTGC $TSLX $OXLC $MAIN #NRZ #HOGS - Thanks so much - good to hear you echo my thoughts - had all these except $OXLC on a short list - will take a look. Have been going through your notes and the charts alphabetically and coming to the same conclusion - was going to wait for Monday - also have a note to self to watch price action on $MAIN on the day of the June supplemental - believe it is at the same time as the regular June dividend which should (hopefully) = a nice gap down. WHAT ABOUT #NRZ? In a very tight squeeze.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC reported before the open on 5/2/19. On 5/1/19, they declared 3 more monthly distributions @ .135 each which are for 7, 8, and 9/2019.GAAP NII was “approximately” $13.5M or .34 per share. They say approximately because the ...
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC will report on 5/2/19 with a CC @ 9:00a.m.. I had posted earlier in the month that it would be on 4/30/19. Sorry. I imagine the press release will come earlier that same morning.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC will report 4/30/19 PM. CC is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. that same day. This high yield issue had a huge drop in NAV last quarter which was probably more alarming than it should have been because of the nature of the underlying investments in their portfolio. There should be a significant improvement this quarter as the mark-to-market evaluations should be much higher. It has been performing pretty well since 4/8/19 when it jumped 5% in one day. The yield rhrn is 15.38%.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC continues what looks like a trip to the moon. Amazing how sentiment can change so quickly. All of a sudden CLO is not a dirty word and people are buying it.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC continues to put the 200 in the rear view mirror. It is up another 2.5% today on pretty heavy volume for it. Even with this recent rally, the yield remains lofty @ 15.10%. It goes ex on 4/22/19. The monthly distribution is .135 and has been declared for 4, 5, 6/2019.
  • 86944T: @jan2138 $OXLC Thanks for all your posts. I have in my notes that you posted in late 2018 that this was a pretty risky position to hold. Have the most recent results changed your mind?
  • jan2138: @86944T $OXLC Did you see my post on 4/12/19? In any event, I still think it is a risky situation, but to some degree, the yield justifies taking a position when the chart looks like there is an entry. I don't see one now. BTW, there have been some articles out there discussing CLO's and how investors do not understand them and as such, stay away from tickers that invest in them a la $OXLC creating the high yield. There is one I found on SA you might read which has it as a strong buy. I plan to add some, not many, if and when it pulls back some.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC is up through the 200 and up .70 today. The yield is still extremely high 15.47%. I looked around to see what I could find and there was an article on SA about a whole host of issues, one of which was $OXLC. The tone was positive so, my guess is that the article is the reason for the move.
  • geotheo: @jan2138 $OXLC Got me excited when you said .70. The would have been nice gains and was thinking about taking shares off the table. But alas only a typo. I was thinking about going to buy 1 lotto ticket since after $DIS and then $OXLC my luck was going in the right direction.
  • jan2138: @geotheo $OXLC .70%. Sorry. Now 1.25%.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC up almost 4% on big volume for it. No news I have seen. Yield is 15.77% which is indicative of the risk inherent here. I have a small tracking position so my attention is drawn to changes like this. Looking at the chart, it has been consolidating since Jan. and the BB's are really tight. Today's action put it up through the upper BB making the 200 the next point of resistance. Be very careful with this one. It goes ex on 4/22/19.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC reported Fiscal Q-3 results before the open yesterday and declared another 3 months of distributions for 4, 5, and 6/2019. They had previously declared distributions for 1, 2, and 3/2019. GAAP Net Investment Income was “approx ...
  • stairm01: $OXLC Had to clip some yield hoggers this morning on a dip of 0.43 and now up 0.25 on the day. Hard to set stops on these yield hogs. I did not get stopped out.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC will report via a CC @ 9:00a.m. on 2/11/19. My guess is a press release will be issued before 9:00a.m.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC Wow, look at this one. Congratulations if you held on to it when it really looked bleak back on 12/20/18 when it hit a 52 week low. Since then, it has rallied 41% and is up over 1% today. Even with this rally, the yield is 15.59%. Back on 12/20/18 at the low, it was 22.04%. That was enough to scare even the most ardent risk takers. BTW, if you had bought some at that low on 12/20/18, you would have picked up a dividend as the ex date was 12/21/18.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs #Market; I am sure you are noting the serious moves up in many of these today. $NEWT is up over 6%, $OXLC is up over 6%, $CNSL is up over 5% and I could go on, but I am sure you are smiling for a change. I am tempted to add, but I think if I wait a bit, I won't lose out in the long run. This market is tough to fathom so, caution is my word for the day.
  • issues: @jan2138 $NEWT $OXLC $CNSL #Market Thank you Dana! We are still hanin' on to them. It looks like they are rising from the dead. Like an old Dracula movie, coming to life at night.
  • grcjr: $OXLC #yieldhogs @jan2138 large move down today. Touched a new 52+week low. Not seeing any news as yet.
  • jan2138: @grcjr $OXLC #yieldhogs To be sure, this is a risky one and with their primary source of income coming from CLO's, folks are nervous in this market. The 17.96% yield is the first clue. They have been covering the dividend but not by much. I continue to hold my small tracking position.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC reported PM today. They had previously declared distributions for Oct., Nov. and Dec.. GAAP Net Income was 11.7MM or .35 per share vs. 11.5MM or .39 per share in fiscal Q-1. During the second fiscal quarter of 2018, they issued a tot ...
  • grcjr: @Robert1965 $NEWT $UNIT $VGR $EARN $OXLC $MSFT #yieldhogs @jan2138 - I've been adding nibbles of all five hogs. Over the past 3-4 weeks I've been raising cash from my trading tickers and then putting some of the cash into long term hog holdings. Also added some long term $MSFT.
  • Wolf: @jan2138 $OXLC Have you bought them back? It's back to 10.81 and is making a dragonfly today.
  • jan2138: @Wolf $OXLC Yes. Please check my post on 8/29/18.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC: I sold my tracking position just before the 8/20/18 ex-date giving up the .135 dividend. T'was an experiment. I got $11.31 for my shares. I just bought back the position @ $10.81 making .50 less the .135 I gave up or .365 profit less transaction charges. I figure a 28% annualized gain for my effort. This is not what I do normally, but I wanted to see how this ticker would behave and actually trying it made sure I watched it. Now, I plan to hold this position through the 9/19/18 ex-date. Yield now is 15%. Yield when I sold was 14.32%.
  • Margi1983: $OXLC Now down to the July 24 low and below the 50 MA. Jan2138 is this a good entry or wait till it gets near the 200 MA?
  • jan2138: @Margi1983 $OXLC Please check my posts on 8/20/18. I sold my tracking position then @$11.31 which turned out to be a pretty good move. It adjusted on the ex date and has continued to move down. It is right at the recent low set on 7/24/18, as you said, and I am waiting to see if it holds before establishing a new tracking position. I doubt it will get down to the 200 but if it does, absent any bad news, it would be very tempting as the yield would be sky-high.
  • Margi1983: @jan2138 $OXLC Thanks so much for your always thorough analysis
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC is up over 1% rn as we head towards the 8/22/18 ex-date. At the current level, it is trading at a 13.5% premium to the 6/30/18 NAV. We have 2 recent higher highs and 2 higher lows. I doubt we'll see another higher high in the face of the ex-date. The 14.30% yield, in this case, is indicative of the risk involved here. Maybe, it's worth considering selling, sacrificing this dividend and waiting to see if adjusts on the ex-date and tumbles some more when a reentry might be available. Just a thought.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC: I sold my tracking position sort of as an experiment. Done @$11.31.
  • issues: @jan2138 $OXLC It's still got room at the top to grow into. Holding it Full position. Thanks!
  • jan2138: @issues $OXLC I hope it works for you. We shall see. So far, I am up .03=:+))
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $OXLC (yield 14.19%) reported yesterday. On 7/31/18, they had declared .135 monthly distributions payable in Oct., Nov., and Dec., 2018. GAAP Net Income was $11.5 million or .39 per share, up from $11.0 million or .40 per share @ Q-1. See ...
