  • Chucky: #markets $ICE $MWA This is not my fathers market or mine actually. Two holdings one currently down on sell the news @ 7% the other up 12% buy after listening to conf. call. " Fundamental don't matter" "Risky to hold over earnings" Rings true today for me. I've never seen daily moves absent buyout in my long term portfolio like this in my 30 years.. I guess I need to have a chip implanted in my brain so I could keep up with the algos.
  • bwcarnation1: @Chucky $ICE $MWA #markets I second that....I can't keep up with the intraday moves anymore. I take my eye of one to look at another then go back to the first and it's moved up or down a huge amount something that would normally (back when we had normal) would take weeks or more not minutes. I've never seen such a crazy town market as Cramer calls it.
  • cmac: @Chucky $ICE $MWA #markets Interesting market reaction indeed to MWA results. I went through the 8K and don't understand the optimism. Largely a story of expense control - which they did a decent job of. I'm guessing someone was short the stock, got squeezed and we will see where she settles down to at the close. fyi, I put a small short position on at $8.76 a little while ago. Tight stop about a dime higher.
  • Chucky: $MWA - This is a long term holding from the 2007 decline. Haven't sold partially because it is in my taxable account. This was the qtr., I was going to ditch based on the conference call. I'll still hold position. FWIW, The highlight that stick out is positive signs for muni. spending and residential construction. Their projection for housing starts is 10-15%. The growth in brass, valve and hydrant business was strong despite Texas, CO. and Midwest floods which delayed projects. Projection for End markets for these products balance of year is strong. Seems to me to look at the $XHB components for alpha this weekend.
  • Chucky: $MWA my long term water play that I continue to hold for a very long time. I don't trade it by maybe I should. A big move and back into consolidation at the 200DMA after news of its analytics partnership with $T and $IBM.
  • champ: @Chucky $MWA I like this water company ...sold around $10.50 and I will get back in if the market lets me. $T..I have a large position because of this buy out with $DTV and upon approval by the FCC we should get a good % bounce in this stock.
  • Chucky: $PHO Living in California, one commodity that is always on my mind is water. I found this ETF. I'm sure there are others as well. I have and still own $MWA as a long time holding from 2007. Just starting to do some research on water stocks from utilities to water treatment etc.. Just a quick look technically not much happening. Looks like a very long consolidation. I wish our governor would scrap the train bullet train to nowhere and spend the money brining in water to this state especially since the CA pop. is 40 million.
  • champ: $SPY - $SSO - Sure seems to be climbing the wall of worry. Financials could be keeping this market up....have to wait and see what happens with the banks tomorrow morning... $C, $GS and $BAC. I added this morning in these 2 stocks $TNGO and $ALU. Sold 1/2 in $GS $O $MWA and $BLDR so far today. Sold all yesterday $TAN, $WYNN $FEYE $BIDU $EWH $FXI $CAF $JD $ and $DISH. New position this morning $BK $MS and $PBR.

  • bybyjanice: $XYL and MWA: Both water stocks, $MWA is more geared toward housing play. Both had great earnings considering. $XYL is definitely an infrastructure stock to hold for the long run. XYL: http://www.thestreet.com/story/12306203/1/why-xylem-xyl-is-up-today.html?puc=yahoo&cm_ven=YAHOO MWA: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/mueller-water-products-reports-fiscal-222200103.html
  • Chucky: $MWA - Just went through the conference call transcript. Two keys takeaways. Management quotes "demand for land is strong" and "Muni Spending up year over year". With some states having surpluses this fiscal year it would not surprise me to see continued upgrade to water infrastructure. Even here in San Diego there is a water main break once a day. Conditions for revenue growth are still in tack. A long term holding from the two's of which I haven't sold any shares. Technically this stock is still in uptrend with 200DEMA as support. Nice relief bounce today on report into consolidation. One rule I just wrote down is concentrate on fewer stocks and themes. Less taxing on the brain.

  • bybyjanice: STKL@dagdog: Definitely, it's just one to keep on your radar. They don't report again until DEC 16th. Another one I am watching is XYL. It reports on OCT 29th as does MWA. Both are water plays, although $MWA is tied to housing as well. $XYL is ITT's old water division that was spun off a few years ago. $WAT just missed and is now down at the 200dma...so that might be an indication as to what's to come.
  • Chucky: $MWA I am waiting for some stabilization under 7. Last week, I sold half my position at the mid 7's looking to bu it back here.
  • Chucky: $MWA A long term holding of mine from the 3's. Sold half of my position. As you point out needs time to consolidate this past move. Would love to go to a full position again if I can get it under 7.
  • Chucky: Earnings Although it is tough to hold through earnings the payoff can be rich when companies beat earnings and revenue estimates and raise guidance. $MWA is a play on housing recovery. $ICE is a play on increase market activity. Big moves today.
  • bybyjanice: $MWA Earnings: I've held this for a long time and it is finally paying off. I am going to wait for a pullback to add more. That should be when housing starts to move again. Great infrastructure play.

  • Chucky: $MWA - been out all day. 8% move today on earning release. Although rev. was light and still recorded a loss, it was less than expected. I previously posted last week I though this would be a good play on housing recovery. Close to its measured move to 4.00 per my calc. W base on weekly chart. Might make it to next resistance around 4.50 before it goes EX DIV on 10May12 payable 21May12..

  • JerryFlyGuy: $PAY - so this is moving VERY well today, wondering if anyone else is in on this w/ me. It looks to me like this could be the start of a new move higher? Measured move [assuming the latest consolidation was a bit of a 'bull flag'] would be ~ another $5 [or up to ~$37]. Dreaming? Anyone lightening up today?? • geotheo: $MWA - Nice volatility #squeeze on the daily chart and the price just closed above the upper B-band on the weekly chart. Anyone follow MWA?
  • Bobo: $MWA Chart looks good. I think it is a play on U.S. housing turn. @Bob
  • gotnotime: $MWA - I know some don't like water stocks here, but I think we have a volatility #squeeze going on here. Long MWA
  • Dannomon: $MWA - I totally respect the water stocks for long holdings. Thanks gotnotime. This looks great.
  • JerryFlyGuy: $MWA - I've been watching for a bit, it's certainly at the high side of it's near term trend [since Feb] I'll be setting my trapps, and we'll see what I catch :)
  • trh: $MWA - anyone following this one?
  • gotnotime: $MWA I am a newbie here. Can anyone tell me if this looks like a volatility #squeeze? And what would you do? Thanks. Any comments are appreciated!
  • Henry: $MWA A #squeeze happens over days this is more of a pinch. However the stock on the weekly chart has been flat for months. I'd find another stock. @Henry no holdings in water stocks
  • tmjska: $MWA - gotnotime (me neither, but I'll respond :) ) - I've followed $MWA for some time. The company is recovering on a fundamental basis, retiring its debt, and shedding underpeforming businesses. So management is doing all the right things. Real Money wrote a bullish piece on $MWA yesterday and that's, I think, why the stock is responding. But the stock has powerful enemies, Goldman Sachs being one of them. Not only did $GS downgraded $MWA to sell after earnings (last month) but they put it on their Convinction Sell list on Monday this week. I've been long the stock and then just grew tired of it so I sold out of $MWA after and could go higher following what I thought were good earnings. No position now but I do think the company is worth watching as a turnaround story.
  • tmjska: $MWA - Mueller Water Products (infrastructure) - I really like how $MWA is moving @alon the upper BB. Above average volume, 50ema/sma starting to uptrend, strong RSI, not overbought, A/D increasing, strong OBV. Have been buying on pull backs... 5.80/5.90 region a resistance. If it breaks it, could run for a while. Long MWA.
  • tmjska: $MWA (water) - watch it for a possible move higher. up close to 3% on above average volume. Long MWA.
  • tmjska: $MWA - starting to move from a BB #squeeze. Volume low for now but picking up. Brought to my attention via a positive mention yesterday by @Tim Melvin at RM. Long $MWA (1/2 position).

  • loupoho: Calla I looked at a universe of stocks I follow, two low priced ones seem to jump off the page. $MWA looks like it has come out of a #squeeze and is above upper BB. I'd watch for a pullback and revisit if it gets one. Another idea with good yield is $NRF, a cheap mortgage REIT in a tight volatility #squeeze but a relatively healthy portfolio, astute management, high current yield. I'm in and also like the preferreds a lot but it does have some risk. @Lou edit - typo

  • orthodoc: Bought $SJT close to 24 (recent lows 50dma ahead; would like to add more, but also would like to sell if 50dma turns into resistance $MWA had nice move today but on unspectacular volume; since infrastructure I left it alone, although wonder if I should have sold some; will put in stop after morning tomorrow on half that is closer to current price to protect some profit

  • Khaos: Hi Team, I trade through OptionsXpress and I've noticed that whenever I'm looking for stocks to short, such as $MWA, $UTHR, and $BG, they never have any available. These are fairly liquid stocks. (Note, I'm not considering #shorting the above stocks...just examples) Have any of you had this issue with OptionsXpress or other brokers? Thanks!
  • loupoho: $MWA I'm still a newbie and am perplexed as to whether and where to put in a Stop on MWA. I own it at 9.25. It may be ahead of itself, but I do like the stock. Any suggestions? I'm off to play golf this a.m. which is just as well so I won't sweat the carnage. Thanks, @Lou
  • butticelt: @Lou: hit 'em long and straight! FWIW...with a totally yummy 24+% profit going in $MWA, I'd stick a profit-protection trailer on it of, say, 4%? (.46 cents)...or if it's a longer term trade for you, then you may want to give it a little more room? Then I'd only be worrying about working on my short game, instead of my port. Have a great day! Kim
  • razmataz: $MWA - (just reading thru the posts after hours) still outside upper BB, super strong. I'm with @Pelican, take some profits (maybe 1/2 your pos) if it shoots higher you still have some and if it tests as @Bob anticipates you can add back. I'd add at ~10.50 if it strengthens up (just eyeballing the chart). but note that a fall to 10.50 is a 7% drop from the close. a fall to 9.80 is 17% and I would interpret that as an evil portent and would be super cautious about a re-entry. Nice job on your trade! $MWA no Pos raz
  • loupoho: $MWA Anyone care to comment on this water company stock? I'm thinking of adding here. @Lou
  • loupoho: Fair enough Raz. $MWA enjoyed a great quarter (finally in the black) in the water infrastructure business. Fundamentally, it is a good company in a good business with lots of future growth. I've owned for a while and notice that that chart shows real improvement. The MAs are moving up and stock price is at a high for this year. There may be some resistance at the current price from the highs in late 2007. I'm not an experienced technician that's why I posted the question. @Lou
  • coopster: @Lou, $MWA looks strong, but it is due for a pullback. It has been riding the 8DEMA up, and it is way above that now. Let it pullback to the 8 DEMA, and when it gets close see if it starts to get some buying coming in. Pick a day where it opens with a gap up or the same as the previous day's close and trades up. 8 DEMA = 8 day exponential moving average.
  • loupoho: Thanks @Coopster. I've just added the 8DEMA to my $TC template and will watch it. Is that a $MA that you use a lot, or is that something you applied to the $MWA chart for analysis?
  • razmataz: ...
