  • jwstich: Many of large insurers are down today: $HUM, $CI, $MOH, $UNH, $ELV. All appear relatively similar to me on the IBD platform (MarketSmith). Does anyone have a preference?
  • Lou: Still substantially invested - added this morning (small) to $SLB, stock and $55 calls; and $CI $320.
  • woodman: @Lou $SLB $CI - I've preferred the $OIH stocks (your examples from OIH: SLB and of course your $FTI ). OIH has outperformed $XOP and $XLE since late Sept. I've been in $OIH itself and have positions in components $HAL $BKR $RES.
  • Lou: @woodman $SLB $CI $OIH $FTI $XOP $XLE $HAL $BKR $RES - thanks. I'm holding several large, unexciting positions that have tied up too much capital as I'm not as nimble as a trader as I used to be and have too many home situations to permit me to research and chart new opportunities for entries as I once did. So, I stick to a few names that (I think) I know well, settle for smaller daily moves and check the market fairly frequently.

  • cgendro1: $ELV- has come off the HOD but look at that weekly chart! Hits 50wk and takeoff. $CI has also been an easy hold. Nice steady weekly chart. Both longterm holdings.
  • steve71: $CI Adding a bit to large position at the close. Higher rates are eventually good for banks and insurance companies. Out of all those possible charts Cigna has been doing well this year. As rates rise, insurance companies have to mark down the low interest bonds they hold, a short term problem. But they ultimately benefit from the higher interest bonds they currently are buying.

  • debeers: $CI- My big concern with them isn't their management which is excellent. My big concern is that the Democrats are pushing hard for restricting pricing power of healthcare companies for what the healthcare companies can charge for insulin as the percentage of diabetics is very much higher in minority populations, There is a concertred push to restrict healthcare generally. i decided to take the money and run..
  • debeers: $AMD@bRobert-Prior to the $AMD report on a bad day, i got it at 81 which was a terrible place on the chart, the cherry was the most important thing because it was the first quarter in which the Xilinx purchase could be counted and by following the stock story, you knew that because the chart was a choppy sloppy mess. $CI was a play because it had never missed and had fundamentally modified its structure with the kaiser linkup and other modificstions it had made. i don't want to spar with you because fighting isn't in my nature. i'd rather view itr as we both have tools and i have often said that when we both agree, its the best!
  • bRobert: @debeers $AMD $CI I am a lover not a fighter.........until cornered with no exit I acknowledge many times that I am willing to pay up to buy a stock after it has finished the cocoon phase and the butterfly is free to fly much higher with fewer obstacles Which is to say that your're not wrong for your investment style I don't need to buy at the bottom I'm looking for a more mature relationship free of headaches
